"Issues with Cleanliness and Cost"
The bathroom floor feels sticky most of the time when I visit, which is about once a week. The shower mat is consistently dirty. I did mention both issues, and they addressed them. However, if I hadn’t complained, who knows how long it would have taken to clean them! As for the cost, my gut feeling is that it’s too high.

"Be Cautious with Outside Care at Farmington Hills Inn"
Farmington Hills Inn is an assisted living facility, so like other places my mom has been, they have outside people come in for care. This means she gets psychological evaluations from a psychiatrist or a nurse practitioner who visits to do their rounds. My biggest complaint is you have to be careful with what you're getting. They charge you for these visits every month, and sometimes it doesn't seem worth it. For example, the psychiatrist just adjusted her Prozac dosage. They'd see her every month to decide if she needed 10 mg more, less, or the same amount. One time, they didn't come for 3 months because of insurance issues. When the insurance was sorted out, they started coming more often than necessary. You need to watch out for billing when you have outsourced care because they might overcharge the insurance. Make sure the visits are needed and worth what you’re paying. The staff is friendly overall, and I thought the meals were good. They could improve security since you can walk in or out during after-hours and weekends through the side door, even though there's a sign-in area. Farmington Hills offers decent care on a budget. For the cost, it's decent, but nothing is perfect with assisted living.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short of Expectations"
The place felt like a kids' detention center, not welcoming. It looked very plain and cold. Security seemed lacking; the receptionist wasn't at the front desk. Rooms were tiny with limited storage. The courtyard wasn't inviting.

"Friendly staff and good info, but needed more memory care focus"
We took a virtual tour of this place, and it was really nice. The staff were friendly and gave us plenty of information. The tour was great too, but we were looking for a smaller community that focuses more on memory care.

"Affordable and Friendly Assisted Living"
We picked Farmington Hills Inn because it cost less than other places nearby. The rooms were a good size, although they only have one option. The meals were made by a chef, and residents could choose from a menu. Overall, we had a positive experience and would recommend this community. One thing to note: if you visit after hours, there’s no door person, so anyone could walk in.”

"Helpful community, but pandemic made moves tough for me"
The community was really helpful when my loved one moved around. I would have liked to help with the moves myself, but the pandemic made that impossible. I would definitely recommend this place to others for their loved ones.

"Nice community but staff and medication process need improvement"
The community was nice, but the staff needed to be kinder. One problem we faced was that they didn't use Medicare for her medications; they had their own pharmacy. I would suggest this facility to others.

"Dismal Conditions and Negligence at Assisted Living Facility"
I put my mom, who has dementia, in this senior care center's specialized unit. It was a terrible experience, with terrible living conditions. They wouldn't change my mom for a day at a time, leading to her sitting in clothes drenched with pee. In fact, once a family member found her shoes and socks soaking wet with urine. It was so bad, the whole dining area stunk of urine, and I had to throw out her shoes and socks. The staff were mean and quick-tempered with her, even when my family was there. I saw workers handle other residents roughly in an inappropriate way and saw that there was absolutely no respect or care for the people with dementia. They didn't check which medications they were giving out enough and if we hadn't been there, my mom would have been given someone else's pills. To make things worse, the head of the place pretended to be surprised and concerned about everything, but didn't do anything to fix the issues. What really got me angry was when I told her about the medicine mix-up and she looked shocked, but lied about not knowing about it beforehand. But I knew she was lying because her team had told me that she had been forewarned in writing. I tried reaching out to the guy in charge as well, hoping for some improvement. But while he acted shocked at first, he told me later that "I support the Director a million percent", who he said had worked there for a while. It's clear that the Director had wrapped him around her finger as well. There were other bad things happening too and other families were also unhappy with the place. Some asked me to join them in confronting the Director, but I chose to just move my Mom out of there instead. There were a few really great staff members who did treat the residents well. Sadly, they were the rare exceptions and not the rule. Two of these people even voiced their frustrations to me about the terrible way their colleagues were treating the residents, and wishing they could leave. But, they couldn't stand leaving the residents at the mercy of the mean staff. Please look for a better home for your loved ones.

"Inadequate Diabetes Care and Mismanagement at Assisted Living Facility"
I checked my mom into this place and had to get her out just 56 days later. My mom has diabetes and needs her insulin 4 times each day. Here, the nurse assistants were giving her insulin the wrong way and caused her A1C levels to jump from 7.1 to 11.2 in only 56 days. When I called them out on this, they said the nurse assistants would be trained again. But nothing changed. She often got her insulin about 45 minutes BEFORE she ate! Sometimes, her blood sugar levels were over 400 before she even had food. Plus, they were supposed to put her on a "diabetic" diet. Even though they said there was a dietician on staff and promised mom would get the special diet she needed, it didn't happen. She was eating the same stuff as everyone else, like pizza, blueberry pie, and salads smothered in dressing. This is so wrong for a person with diabetes! Mom kept saying she had a headache because her blood sugar was too high. Eventually, she had a kind of mini-stroke called a TIA. I caught these signs and took her to the hospital. If I hadn't, she could have had a full-blown stroke in her room. After she spent 4 days in the hospital and two weeks recovering, nobody from the assisted living place called to check on her or me. When I asked for a meeting with the boss and the highest level nurse, they basically told me to find a new place for her if I wasn't happy. So I did just that. To make matters worse, they said my mom owed treatment money for the 56 days she was there, which added up to $840. My mom didn't agree to that kind of treatment; she wanted to live there. Thank goodness I was there to stand up for her and make sure her health came first, because this place did not. I wonder how many other people with diabetes are living there and dealing with the same issues without anyone to speak up for them. If you or your family member needs careful health care, don't go to this place. There aren't enough nurse assistants and they don't have the right training!!!

There's zero communication here and everything is not as they said it would be before I moved in.
