"Great Staff and Supportive Community"

I’m sorry to hear about your loss. During our time at StoryPoint Birmingham, the daytime staff showed kindness and support. We recommend this community to other families.

"Caring Place with Great Covid Safety"

We like it a lot and believe it’s the best place for my Mom. She gets good care in memory care with engaging activities. They meet her needs and encourage interaction with others. Their covid safety measures are excellent during the pandemic.

"Sheridan's Lack of Care Worryingly Endangers our Elderly Parents"

The Sheridan may sound perfect on their website and ads, but in reality, our elderly parents face problems with the service every day. Just last week, they had to wait for over an hour. Due to this delay, our 92-year-old Dad has to care for Mom, who suffered from a stroke. We’ve told the Sheridan about these issues repeatedly, but nothing's getting better. We're worried our parents might fall or get hurt because they're not being taken care of properly at the Sheridan. They keep making promises, but nothing really changes.

"Beautiful facility but skeptical due to bad online reviews."

We toured the place and loved its beautiful building. But, when we checked online, there were many bad reviews. We asked them about it in person but didn't find their answers believable.

"Quiet and secluded community during pandemic visit"

I could only see the outside because of the pandemic. The place was quiet and a bit out of the way.

"Declining Care and Inadequate Staff at Assisted Living Facility"

My parents were both residents at this assisted living facility until they passed away. My mom was one of the first to move in, and initially, things seemed promising. Unfortunately, the quality of care drastically worsened over time. By then, both my mom and dad were too sick to leave. We had to hire additional help from the outside. The employees can't seem to stick around, which is alarming. All the compassionate, competent staff who were there when the facility first opened are gone. Furthermore, the leadership is beyond inadequate - the initial executive director was utterly unhelpful, and the lead nurse definitely bit off more than she can chew. Though she seems nice enough, she's clearly in over her head. The processes for monitoring and caring for the residents are nonexistent. For instance, we observed multiple instances where staff members made my mom's bed after she had dirtied the linens. They offer activities for the elders and even a handy app for relatives to keep track of participation. However, it's painfully evident that they don't really know who their residents are. Case in point: three days after my dad passed away, we received notifications stating that he was engaging in activities. The call buttons they provide their residents are hit-or-miss. They often only have two caregivers on duty for more than 40 residents, which is simply not enough. They also have a poor understanding of hospice care (which is critical for insurance to cover the costs). The meals are subpar, and the apartments constantly had issues with heating and cooling. Whenever we tried discussing these issues with the executive director and lead nurse, the common response was: "That's not how we're supposed to do things." I ended up installing security cameras in my parents' rooms to monitor the quality of care. Every time I confronted them with solid evidence, they would brush off my concerns, insisting that I was wrong, even when I provided proof. This facility looks great on the surface, but don't let that fool you. The quality of care here doesn't match the furnishings. While my siblings and I mourn the loss of our parents, we won't miss the enormous stress this place brought us.

"Lackluster Care at Posh Facility, Private Care Necessary"

This facility would earn zero stars from me if possible. My mother resided here for eighteen months before her demise, and we found ourselves constantly having to use videography to ensure her care was appropriate. Her advanced dementia made her reliant on familiar surroundings, so we felt compelled to keep her there. However, the quality of care was so poor, we hired private care for her throughout the day. Don't be lured by the attractive apartments and lobby: the standard of care here does not reflect the physical aesthetics. The receptionist and rental agent are the only staff members worth any praise.

"Unsatisfactory Assisted Living Experience"

I totally agree with the last review. My family is itching to leave this place. The Executive Director is a big issue. He laughs at everything, but doesn't do anything to solve problems. He's not fit for the job! The food here needs to get better, and the care is just okay. There are always new staff, and the people in charge need to change too.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short: Needs Improvement in All Areas"

My family member stays in memory care. Not enough staff. The director and caregivers work hard, but needs aren't met. Spoke to the boss, no change. Caregivers are kind but lack support. Food is bad, like school meals. Not healthy. Residents watch TV due to staff shortage. Not enough water given. Consider hiring a private caregiver. Building has HVAC issues and poor layout. No laundry in memory care. No fall detection tech. Marketing should focus on improving services, not special events. Stop accepting new residents until better staffed.

"Mixed Feelings on New Assisted Living"

The Sheridan at Birmingham might be just like other places for older people to live. The helpers here, who I need a lot, are all different. Some are grumpy, and some are super nice. I’m happy when a helper is just okay—they’re not mean, but they’re not super nice either. This place looks new and has nice decorations, but to me, it feels too fancy and not cozy. I’ve only been here a month, and I’m still getting used to it. It’s hard to be okay with everything after I lost my husband and had to leave our home, especially when I’m 79 and sick with something that doctors can’t fix. The people in charge seem like they want to hear if something’s wrong and they want to make things better. But you can’t make someone care if they don’t want to. Most of the helpers here don’t really know what they’re doing, and they didn’t even know I can’t walk until I’d been here for a while.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Facility Fails to Deliver on Promises"

Promised activities, care, and good food were supposed to make my life better. But that's not happening here. When there are problems, the director is nowhere to be found. I've visited many times on weekends, but there's no director or clear direction on site. The location is beautiful, but the management is just not good.
