"Unclear Services at Assisted Living Facility"
The people in charge are a bit stubborn. We got a little confused about what they offer. The explanation of services isn’t clear.

"Mixed Feelings about Encore Assisted Living"
We like the location and spacious rooms. Loved ones enjoy meals and activities. Some complaints about too much bingo. It's hard to reach staff, and they can be unfriendly. Staff turnover is an issue.

"Not ideal for memory care, adequate for general assistance."
If your family member has memory issues, this place isn't suitable. For basic assistance, it's okay.

"Unresponsive Assisted Living Facility with Unclear Billing"
This place didn't take care of our family member like they promised. They didn't break down the costs for us and couldn't clarify why things cost what they did. Their promises to handle everything during their sales talk were totally untrue. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They said we could use our VA prescriptions, but instead, they reordered everything and made us pay for it all. Trying to get in touch with them was a nightmare, sometimes it took a month just to hear back.

"Cozy, friendly assisted living with beautiful lake views"
We picked Encore at Maplewood because it's a small place. This is great for my friend since it feels like family. The social director is awesome and really seems like a friend to the residents. The facility is right by a beautiful lake, and my friend's room, as well as the dining room, has a lovely lake view. It’s ideal for someone who prefers a cozy, low-key environment.

"Careless facility sends dementia patient back to hospital; refuses refund"
I planned to relocate my mom to Encore following her sudden dementia diagnosis. After her hospital discharge, they took her in and I was hopeful that we'd chosen the right facility. However, in less than a day, they returned her to the hospital as they couldn't manage her attempts to leave. They were ill-equipped to deal with her condition. Consequently, she spent another week in the hospital as Encore's requirement of no hospital one-on-one couldn't be met. You just can't leave a patient struggling with memory loss alone, in a regular hospital room, my mom wouldn't hesitate to leave, even in her hospital attire. Eventually, we hit a dead-end and I shifted her to a more capable facility, who could actually help her adapt to her new abode. Unfortunately, my mom ended up paying for unrendered services, and needless hospital facilities, with Encore denying any possible refunds. I highly urge you to steer clear from this place! And don't be fooled by their claim of having an outside environment, unless you consider a mesh-covered porch as 'outside'.

"Concerns Ignored at Bickford of Maplewood Assisted Living"
Many times, my relative had to wait for a long time or didn't get help even after pulling the emergency cord. Once, we forgot to use our key fob while leaving Bickford's memory care. The alarm went off, but it took staff up to 15 minutes to show up. This is a real problem because residents with memory issues could wander off. Often, we couldn't find anyone to help us, especially on weekends. When we did find staff, they were usually on their phones. We would also often find our loved one's medication on the floor of his room. Despite telling the management about all these problems, nothing improved. We were really upset and would not suggest anyone to send their loved ones to Bickford of Maplewood.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"
My mom didn't like it here. She likes cooking but the kitchenette wasn't good enough. The apartment was too small for her, and she couldn't downsize much. The person who gave us the tour did a great job, but we're looking for a livelier place with women her age and similar interests.

"A Caring Place for Mom, With Kind Staff and Family Feel"
I needed to find a new home for my mom quickly after she had a fall and needed extra help. It was really stressful for all of us, especially for my dad. We scheduled a tour on a Saturday. When we arrived, we were welcomed with a warm smile. As we walked around, we immediately felt like part of a big family. Mom had a chance to meet some of the other residents while we discussed the important details. Everyone was very kind and understanding. Mom has been living there for a few weeks now and is very happy. Thanks to Bickford for everything!

"Subpar Assisted Living Facility with Poor Management and Unpleasant Smell"
We took a trip to this place. I'd never let anyone I know stay there. This place is just terrible. It stunk, nobody was around to let us in, and even the two people who were supposed to show us around didn't appear. When we left, we smelled like heavy air freshener, and we had to open the windows of our car to air it out on the journey back.

"Care Standards Falling: Bickford Assisted Living Needs Improvement"
The workers don't take good care of patients. Bickford must fire lazy staff. Last Saturday, it smelled bad, messy hallways, dirty dining room. My dad neglected, wet and half-dressed at 11:45 am. Negligent staff should be fired. They toss wet diapers in wrong bins. I complained to staff. My dad deserves better. Bickford needs change. I'll call health department next time. Good aides, but owners must do better. Rather see dad in heaven than here. Visit unannounced, see for yourself, multiple times.

"Gracewood Assisted Living: Mixed Experience"
My dad lives at Gracewood in Maplewood. I used to work as a social worker, so I know about how they take care of people. It's like any other business. Some of the caregivers are good, a few are great, and some aren't so good. But there aren't enough staff to help everyone. I recommend visiting at different times to see how your loved one is doing. Recently, they sold the place, and there's been a lot of staff changes. The new manager is young and only a CNA. They should hire someone with a 4-year degree. My dad can't feed himself, and sometimes they don't give him enough liquids. The food just sits there until they take it away. The little old ladies seem to get more help during meals. They do listen to suggestions, though. Let's see if the new owners can improve things.

"Mixed Feelings: Gracewood Assisted Living Facility Review"
When you go inside Gracewood, the memory care unit stands out. It kinda feels too much like a hospital. The rest of the place feels cozy and homey, but that first impression sticks with you.

"Nice Staff, Needs Improvement in Care"
I'm not too pleased with this place. The people who work here are friendly and pay attention to you. But, the care they give could be better. Some personal stuff got lost and never found. They do have things to do, though. And other folks can wander into your room. If you're considering it for your family, go check it out.

"Good Care but Staff Shortage Issues"
The helpers I met are really good at their job. The place is neat and friendly, and they mostly take good care of my dad. But, just like all homes, even the best ones, there aren't enough staff. Today, almost everyone here is sick with the flu, and my dad's diaper wasn't changed until 4:30, even though they put it on at 7am. The staff are working with fevers, and the health department and owner should know about this. There's no nurse here on weekends, which is really not okay. So, whoever owns this place needs to spend more money and have more help available on weekends. The whole place is in a crisis because everyone is sick.
