"Assisted Living Response Times Need Improvement"
I've got one complaint about this assisted living facility. Sometimes, when people fall, it takes too long for someone to respond to their call for help. There was this one guy who lay on the floor in his apartment for half an hour before anyone came to assist him. It worries me, especially for those in memory care. But I understand that all these senior places are struggling to find enough staff right now. They're doing their best.

"Brookdale Edina: Poor Care and Unexpected Charges"
We used Brookdale Edina for a 30-day break. It was the worst place and experience ever. They didn't help her bathe, brush her teeth or change her clothes for days. I wouldn't recommend this place. Plus, they knew she was only going to be there for 30 days and still charged extra for 3 days, costing more because they didn't receive a written notice the same day she moved in.

"Convenient, Familiar Assisted Living with Responsive Staff at Brookdale"
We visited three different places—different communities, sizes, and locations. Brookdale felt most familiar to [name removed], who has lived in Edina most of her life. She stayed at the Residence Inn next door briefly during a home remodel years ago. Edinborough Park, connected to Brookdale, is convenient for her medical appointments and shopping. The administrative staff has been responsive and helpful.

"Facility's Staff Welcoming but Care Falls Short; Incomplete Basic ADLs"
This place was nice because the staff was friendly and they explained things well. Even though we were only there for a short time, we felt like we belonged. But I was disappointed with how they took care of my mom. At first, everything seemed okay. But they didn't tell us right away when her medicine needed to be refilled. The staff also didn't help her shower, get dressed, or brush her teeth like they were supposed to according to her care plan. The person in charge of activities was really kind and made my mom feel included and encouraged her to join in.

"Spacious Facility with Friendly Staff; Some Accessibility Concerns"
This place is really big and has lots of nice things. The rooms are a bit small, and the hallways are narrow, so it might be tricky if someone needs to use a scooter. The people who work there are all very friendly. The rooms and the places where everyone hangs out are clean. When she showed us around, we found out that the prices are higher than what we thought, but maybe they could give a discount for a couple of rooms like you said? It was weird that she couldn't tell us about nursing services or how much they cost, especially since I was there to learn about assisted living. This place seems better for seniors who like to do a lot of stuff.

My dad's son
"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living: Nice Facility, Some Issues"
I went to see my dad at his new place for three weeks after he moved in early September. My first thought? I hardly saw any staff on his floor after a certain time. If I had questions or problems, I had to go downstairs to reception, but even they couldn't always help. They said the caregivers had to cover multiple floors, so they weren't always on his floor. But I noticed they were rarely there, which made me wonder where they were spending their time. Maybe chatting? My wife noticed that even though they did his laundry, they weren't picking up his clothes from the bathroom. They said they'd be more careful in the future. Sometimes meals weren't served where they were supposed to be, and they didn't tell the residents. We'd show up and find the dining room empty and dark because the meal was moved to another floor. Once, my dad was told he'd have supper in the dining room on the second floor at 5:30, but it didn't happen. I asked how they didn't know hours beforehand, and they said they should have and promised to fix it. Overall, it's a nice place in good shape. The building is nice, with lots of open space and activity rooms. I'm not sure about all floors, but the 5th and 6th floors have a lounge area with a TV and coffee. They have a schedule of activities, like bands on Sunday nights and sing-alongs on Mondays. They also have a happy hour once a week and show movies. My dad could join in without pressure, and he could skip if he wanted. They also have guest rooms for visitors, which cost less than a good hotel room.

"Bad Experience at Brookdale: Neglected Medical Needs and Unresponsive Management"
Our dad was at Brookdale Edina for nearly a week. He needed medical care, which they said they'd provide. Everything was good until he had trouble breathing and required his nebulizer. Even though he used the call button, nobody came to help. The same thing happened when my sister went to see him. She even tried to find a nurse, but nobody was around. After experiencing this, we moved him somewhere else after only six days. Then, we got the bill. They charged us for a full month and all the services for that month, even though he was there for only six days. I emailed the executive director to ask about prorating the bill, but didn't hear back until just before the due date. The director apologized and said we could discuss prorating, but then never followed up. We don't think this is a good place for elderly folks who need medical care, even though the salespeople are really nice and helpful. Additionally, the executives seem to avoid dealing with problems instead of addressing them head-on. We definitely wouldn't recommend this place.

"Bright, welcoming place with helpful staff and good amenities"
We picked this place for my mother-in-law after her stay at TCU. She likes the activities, the helpful staff, the variety of food, and meeting new residents. There was some confusion about the charges, so assisted living is pricey, but we hope it's just temporary and she’ll be independent soon. The amenities and location are great, and the renovations make it bright and welcoming.

"Brookdale Edina: Beautiful Facility, Questionable Service"
Brookdale Edina: Neglected Care & Poor Communication" Brookdale Edina is a splendid facility, but the service leaves much to be desired. My spouse stayed there for over a week while I was away on a fishing trip. I had stocked her wardrobe with several clothing changes, but when I returned to take her home, her clothes were haphazardly strewn around the room, emptied from the closet and some even damp from lingering under the sink. To add insult to injury, after arriving home, I discovered she was wearing someone else's glasses. Moreover, two of her beloved cat dolls had disappeared. I reached out to Julie regarding the misplaced glasses and dolls around a month ago and she assured me she'll look into it. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for her response. While I can't fully judge the staff due to my wife's memory issues, there was an unfriendly and rather assertive nurse in charge of medications whom I wasn't pleased with.

"Look Out for Difficult Move-Out Terms & Poor Communication"
Watch out when moving out of here: First off, they don't return your $2500 deposit. Also, they require a two-month notice if you plan to leave. This became a problem when my 87-year old mom's memory started to fail and we wanted to move her closer to home and into assisted living. The center wasn't flexible about this, and most places won't hold a room for that long. It's a big financial loss for my elderly mom. The communication also became difficult once mom started transitioning between independence and memory problems. While the nurse is nice, she's overloaded with work. The occupational and physical therapists are eager to help but they don't communicate well with family or keep good records. It's probably not a problem if you can take care of yourself. But if you need more help, there are issues. We're really disappointed. It's an okay place for someone who is high-functioning, but if your parents' cognitive function is starting to decline and they aren't quite ready for full-on assisted living, don't expect the center to let you know about any problems.

"Major Construction Upsets Tenants"
This place has been under some heavy construction for the last year and a half and it's not even close to done. The loud sounds and constant changes are big issues. The place is filled with dust, junk and there are risky spots all over due to the ongoing work. Some folks, who were told they could stay in their places, had to move to other spots in the building while their regular rooms got fixed up. A bunch of the common areas on the ground floor like the library and the beauty shop have been closed for a while, and they moved activities to another part of the building that isn't as nice. The workers keep saying how great it'll be once the work's done, but I think lots of people are finding all these changes pretty tough. Having to pay regular rent during all this mess feels like a big scam.

"Runs Down Efficient Care at Respected Brookdale Community"
I visited the assisted living complex in our town. The rooms looked unkempt, and the bathrooms weren't clean. I saw a man visibly in discomfort, but no staff or nurses seemed to be around. Another man sought my help, asking for his way to a communal activity, with no sign of a happy hour. It seemed there were no ongoing activities for residents. In the dining area, a lady eating her lunch kept spilling food, but again, there was no assistance in sight. I interacted briefly with a nurse who appeared rushed and didn't chat much. The lady in the dining room was still alone by the time I concluded my tour. This place was a real letdown. I'd heard that it was among the top Brookdale communities in the state, but that's definitely not the case.

"Nurse Lacks Knowledge in Expensive Assisted Living Facility!"
This place is a horrible choice for your family members. If they can manage on their own, it might be okay, but keep them out of the assisted living section! It's super expensive and they can't even explain why it costs so much. They rely on a nurse's evaluation, but she doesn't really know what the residents need. They just want your cash! Good luck getting any face time with this nurse, let alone a heads up about your loved ones situation. If you have a question, she doesn't give clear answers because she doesn't know what she's doing. She's new to the world of assisted living.

My mother-in-law moved here in February 2014 from her home of 36 years. She loves it! The apartment has great views of the Minneapolis skyline, the food is good, and the staff is very friendly. "Assisted Living with Ups and Downs"
I really appreciate the staff at Edina Park Plaza; they're pros. When you walk in, it feels more like a hotel than a place for seniors. What's Great: The staff cares, the food is top-notch (which my dad loves), and they try to accommodate needs and events as much as they can. They also provided lots of furniture for the apartment, which was a big help. Room for Improvement: They don't have a nurse available 24/7 (but we knew that beforehand), and their hands are tied by Medicare rules, limiting what they can do for nursing and therapy. My dad needed more physical therapy after back surgery, but Medicare's rules cut it short. After a setback, he's back at a transitional care unit, but we hope he can return to Edina soon. Despite the challenges, I trust the folks at Edina Park Plaza to help him recover.

"Homelike care suites with good caregiver ratio, but confusing layout."
This place is like Kenwood. The rooms where they take care of people feel just like home, and there are enough caregivers for everyone. There's plenty of sunlight, which is nice. But sometimes, the way they've changed things around can make it hard to find your way. The rooms aren't very big, and you have to share bathrooms. They have units where four or six people live together. Some folks on the floor like to keep their doors open, which is part of how they do things here. This place is up on the tenth floor.
