"Assisted Living Review: Room for Improvement, But Some Positives"
The medicine handling could be improved. Staff should give meds directly and make sure they take them. My loved one is sad because the main nurse is leaving and there have been some new staff changes. It would be great if there was transportation for outings, shopping, lunches, and doctor visits.

"Mixed Feelings about Elder Homestead"
Elder Homestead seemed like a big old house that wasn't in great shape. The rooms were tiny and made me feel sad. The people who worked there were nice and kept checking in on me, but it wasn't the right place for me.

"Poor Communication and Unwelcoming Staffing at Assisted Living Facility"
I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone. They're really bad at talking with us or telling us what's going on, which just isn't okay. My mom's been living here for 4 years and recently moved into their memory care. I don't feel like the new staff want me there, they keep changing and some of them are just plain mean. The main person in charge didn't even answer when I sent a message about a problem. They wouldn't take blame for a nurse breaking something in my mom's room either. She deserves better than this, and so do I, considering how close we are. I don't think they're taking good care of her. The rooms in the memory care section are really small compared to the assisted living rooms. They keep the memory care all locked up away from everything else, it feels like a prison. I'm looking for a better place for my mom.

"Affordable but Aging Assisted Living"
Elder Homestead was affordable, but it seemed a bit old. I think it's the first assisted living facility in Minnesota.

"Helpful staff, great food, short on staff, good value."
The social director has been very helpful. The current nurse is also helpful. My loved one says the food is fabulous. They are short on staff, like many places. Not having a receptionist can be a problem when calling. Overall, it has been a good experience, and we would recommend them depending on your needs. The facility isn't new or luxurious, but it offers good value for the money.

"Mixed Feelings About Elder Homestead"
We really like all the staff. Improvements needed in meals. This captures the main points of the review in a concise and clear manner.

"Great Experience, Meals Could Improve"
Our experience has been pretty good so far, but sometimes the meals can be a bit hit or miss.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short on Communication"
We picked Elder Homestead because it was close by, available, and the staff seemed friendly during our interviews. They assured us he could stay, but when we were away, they suddenly said he couldn't due to his falls—even though this wasn't new. We had just 48 hours to move his belongings out, and we left feeling unhappy with their handling of the situation.

"Positive staff and activities, food promising at assisted living community."
The quality seems okay and the staff is nice. The food looks and smells great, but I haven't tried it yet. They offer activities for residents, and I'd suggest this community based on my experience.

"Nice Views but Requires Private Payment for First Year"
This place takes public funding (Medicare) after one year of private payments. I visited on October 29th. They have 50 assisted living units and 20 memory care units. You can choose from studios and one-bedroom apartments. It's in a residential neighborhood near a park with nice views.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
I visited this place, and it was okay. The staff was friendly and answered my questions. The facility seemed clean, but the available room was on a high floor. It wouldn't have worked for Mom because it was too far from the dining area. They do have nursing staff, though. Overall, not a good fit.

"Understaffed but caring facility."
In my opinion, Elder Homestead is a pleasant place. Although I haven't met all the staff, the ones I've interacted with have been friendly and professional. The facility looks nice, and they take good care of the residents. However, they seem a bit short-staffed. When we moved in, there wasn't anyone available to assist us, and the one request we made took a while to be fulfilled. It has improved somewhat, but I still believe they could benefit from more staff.
