Friendship Village of Bloomington a CCRC

"Mixed Experience: Some Highlights, Some Disappointments"
My dad stayed at Friendship Village for 4 years. He started with Independent Living, then moved to Assisted Living, and finally to Memory Care. Independent Living was good: good food, friendly residents, and personal trainers. Assisted Living was just okay. However, Memory Care was not good. The staff there seemed understaffed and not well-trained. I was so worried that I had to make a detailed spreadsheet with 50 items and have calls twice a month to make sure things were being done properly. I think I shouldn't have had to do this much management. The last two days of my dad's life were heartbreaking. The staff didn't follow my instructions or my dad's wishes. There were a few bright spots with some exceptional employees like the trainer, chaplain, and some aides. To make it bearable, we had to hire extra staff from outside Friendship Village because the ones there weren't trained well enough.

"A Loving Resident's Superior Experience at FVB"
'My wife and I checked out 12 retirement homes in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Friendship Village Bloomington (FVB) was easily our top pick. We've been living here for over 4 years now and we absolutely love it. The experience is even better than what we imagined. The staff and people living here are super friendly and knowledgeable. The building is top-notch and the activities and resources offered are fantastic! Recently, FVB was praised by Masterpiece Living as an impressive place for successful aging. This makes FVB one of the best retirement homes in the country. FVB helps keep us healthy and active, helps us make friends, stimulates our minds, and lets us take part in meaningful activities. This makes it possible for us to live independently for longer. This is exactly what we wanted from a retirement home. Living happily at Friendship Village Bloomington'

"Expensive and poorly managed, with frequent staff changes and tiny rooms."
They make you pay extra even for wipes, and they don't have enough staff all the time. The employees don't seem excited about their jobs and there are new faces every time you turn around. They frequently run out of basic supplies like gowns, and good luck if you need special care. I really don't think this place is the best. It seems like the management keeps most of the money that the residents pay for what's supposed to be stellar care. Plus, the rehabilitation area is really small and you have to share it with someone else.

"Unimpressed with Understaffed and Overpriced Assisted Living Facility"
They constantly nickel and dime you for everything, even little items like wipes, despite regularly being short-handed. You can tell the employees aren't excited about their work and there's a high staff turnover. Basic things like dressing supplies are frequently lacking and, if you need new treatments, good luck. It definitely doesn't feel like the best place and I just can't shake the feeling that the management keeps the majority of the money that's supposed to go towards 'quality care'. Also, the rehab rooms are far too small and they often double up.

"Assisted Living Facility Improvements"
They're doing way better now. At first, there were some confusions and mix-ups, but it looks like they fixed that. The place is really nice, super clean, and the staff is friendly. Seems like things are going pretty well.

"Expensive entrance fee, services included, minimum monthly cost high."
This place wants a lot of money upfront just for a small room. They say it covers some services later on like nursing home care, rehab, and memory care, but the entrance fee is a big $110,000 that you don't get back. Plus, they expect you to pay at least $1800 every month after that.
