"Beware Poor Care at Golden Horizons, Crosslake, MN"

If you're considering sending a loved one to Golden Horizons, Crosslake, MN, listen up. My mom was there till a while ago, but honestly, it was awful. Because of the pandemic, they didn't let anyone inside, so the only way we could see her was through a window. During that time, her glasses disappeared and she couldn't see well. No one from Golden Horizons even bothered to tell us. Also, some furniture from her room went missing and we never got it back. But what really made us mad was when mom was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and nobody told us. Instead, a doctor from the emergency room called to tell us she was there with a head injury, a black eye, and stitches. We tried to call Golden Horizons, but no one answered the phone. And it wasn’t strange to find the main person in charge gone and nobody to answer the door. We got her out of there right away and moved her to a different place in Crosslake where they actually took care of her. I can't stress enough how badly run and understaffed Golden Horizons is. Do some serious thinking before you decide to send a loved one there.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs More Attentive Staff"

My mom stayed here, and they did care for her, but they weren't very attentive. Once, we found her in her wheelchair, drooling, for over an hour. When we asked the staff, they said they had checked on her an hour ago, so we were disappointed she had been there that long. We were upset with the care, especially since there were many younger staff members.

"Good care with room for better personalized service and communication"

Mom is starting to feel at home at Golden Horizons of Crosslake. The administrator was really friendly, but we had a bit of confusion about where the holding fee was going. I’d recommend getting everything in writing to avoid any mix-ups. It might also be helpful if new residents had someone assigned to help them understand what’s available. We appreciate that they make sure she takes her medication and provides three meals a day. The staff is nice, but they don’t always offer personalized care unless asked. For example, we had to request light bulbs be replaced and ask for help with towels to keep them dry. The food is generally okay, but on weekends, they mostly serve sandwiches. Mom’s room overlooks a nice wooded area where she can see deer and squirrels. There’s a pleasant porch and sidewalks for enjoying the outdoors.
