"Poorly Managed Facility Neglects Residents, Ignoring Health Alerts"
This is tough. When The Landings were running this place, I'd have given them all good grades. But since Northern Oaks took over, I'm thinking about moving my husband, even though it would be really hard for him. I get there's not enough staff, but their new rules and procedures are hurting the residents' care. The top caregivers are gone. There's usually just two people working and often one's the cook. The caregivers are having a hard time doing everything, it's even harder because they no longer have a system for sharing information between shifts. My husband's bathroom isn't kept clean. THEY DON'T TELL ME WHEN HE FALLS ANYMORE. He has Parkinson's and fell 39 times last year, but they haven't told me about any falls since October. The awesome registered nurse isn't here anymore. The nurse now doesn't know much about dementia or Parkinson's and doesn't seem to want to learn how to take care of the residents. She doesn't care at all about the residents. Various residents have left for other places. I wouldn't suggest Northern Oaks to anyone. I'd like to find a new place for my husband.

"Nice place, but lacking activities and community space."
We had a good tour, and I liked the facility, but it wasn't right for my mom. There were no activities, and it seemed dark with little community space. It would be great for people who like to spend more time in their room than with others.

"Deceit and Poor Quality: Avoid this Assisted Living Facility."
This is absolutely the worst place for residents. They can't even keep their own website consistent. I never saw any activities like outings, picnics, or exercise classes, despite what they promised. Don't be fooled by the so-called 'spa and salon' - it's just a stuffy closet. Staff members come and go and they don't even wear name tags. Red carpet treatment? More like red alert! The exorbitant costs will leave any senior penniless by the end of the month, which is totally against Anoka county rules. Now they're trying to hide their failures under new names like "a place for mom" and "jaybird management", but the terrible reviews for all three locations are a dead giveaway. Save yourself the trouble and run for the hills- everything they tell you is a complete fabrication!

" 'Poor Treatment and Low Quality Care at Assisted Living Facility'"
I wish someone had told me the truth about this place. The workers treat the residents really badly and they don't even have name tags. The food they serve is not good because they need a chef who actually knows how to cook. All we get are sandwiches or pizza, which are not on her approved diet plan. You can't trust the staff here and there's nobody doing maintenance work. They delete any bad reviews from their website. They grossly overcharge the residents. They lose employees so often that there's not enough help, especially at night. A lot of the employees are rude to the residents and don't have any patience. They don't offer any activities, help with meal planning, or any extras. I wouldn't ever recommend this place to someone since they don't really provide quality care.

"Fewer amenities, memory care not focused enough."
Less updated, fewer amenities; memory care not focused enough for us.

"Finding the Right Place for Mom"
In the search for the right place for my mom, "A Place For Mom" was helpful. They took our information and made several appointments for us to visit. During that time, I learned that a smaller place with a more 'hands on' approach would be best for my mom. That's why we chose Brookdale Blaine, and so far, it's going well. It's still early since she's only been there for a little over a week. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

"Feels Like Home"
When we visited the Sterling House, a few things stood out to us. We liked the homey feel. It was very small, with nine men and women. The friendliness of the residents and the staff made it more comfortable, just what we were looking for.

"Short stay; personal issues; staff supportive but not suitable."
My brother was there for about 5 days and really struggled. We don't blame Sterling House; it was more about his personal issues. The staff was nice and helpful, but it wasn't a good fit.

"Disappointing Experience at Sterling House"
My brother stayed at Sterling House for about 5 days. While he was there, things went downhill for him. We don't blame Sterling House for what happened. It seemed more like it was his own problems causing issues. The staff was nice and willing to assist, but overall, it wasn't a good fit for him.
