"Staff changes and poor training at Sunrise"
The staff at Sunrise is changing a lot, which is worrying. The new hires don't get much training. They treat patients like they're in a nursing home, not an assisted living place.

"Negligent Care and Unresponsiveness at Assisted Living Facility"
My mom was admitted needing a special type of transfer for mobility, but they didn't use it and she ended up with nasty bruises and skin injuries. These led to ongoing infections that lasted for months. We had no choice but to visit twice daily to watch over her medication intake. Despite paying a significant daily fee for this service, they weren't giving her the correct dosages. She had to wait for up to four hours before they got her ready each morning or assisted her to the toilet. For seven months, we held regular meetings with the facility's director and managers, desperately seeking improved care. They kept offering empty promises of superior care that never materialalized. In her last two days, when she was in hospice care, they denied her pain medications, twice. What was meant to be a time of comfort and ease was anything but - she was constantly in pain. This place is understaffed and those who do work here are not trained appropriately. Their promises of care were never fulfilled, which was a huge letdown considering the price tag. All our discussions with them took place via email so we'd have everything in writing. Yet, they were reluctant to reply in writing, seemingly to avoid keeping any record.

"Pleasant Tour Experience"
Our family visited Sunrise of Golden Valley in person. Although we didn't choose it for our loved one, the tour was really nice.

"Terrible Experiences at Sunrise of Golden Valley Assisted Living"
My time at Sunrise of Golden Valley was terrible! I wouldn't suggest anyone to bring their family members here. My mother, who needed a lot of care, was there for 6 months, and she didn't get the care we were paying for and was specified in her care plan. We got help from an Ombudsman and the Minnesota Department of Health to try and get the facility to fix the problems, but instead of getting better, things only got worse. Some things specifically wrong were that my mom would wait 2-5 hours for someone to respond to her button presses, including when she needed to go to the bathroom, get out of bed in the morning, or get dressed. For 4 months, she wasn't given a bath. They said she refused, but my siblings and I were there and heard them say that they'd do it later or in the morning, but they never did. We ended up washing her ourselves. Her doctor-prescribed medications weren't delivered or given to her for a whole week, and she often missed her medication and nebulizer treatments. She got hurt because the workers weren't trained on how to move her correctly. Also, the staff was not trained or willing to use the Hoyer lift, even though it was in her care plan. The Minnesota Department of Health did a surprise check based on our complaints and made an 88-page report of all the violations at the facility.

"Dirty Facility with Poor Care and Lack of Communication"
The place was absolutely filthy. Being nice is a breeze when you're not actually doing your job. The care? Not even close to a 1-star rating. My poor loved one didn't get proper attention here. Every day they left him with soiled exteriors and grubby fingernails. The meals often were just too spicy for our taste. No one ever tried to get him out of his room for a change. Nobody informed us that it's a self-pay facility. Heck! No one explains anything here. The billing procedure was abysmal. People should know that the clothes are only changed once a week. Same goes for cleaning the room and the bathroom. They should also know there’s no one to help with social service in the facility. The staff? More interested in fiddling with their phones. My mother was scared out of her wits and my father deserved much more decent care.

"Mixed Experience: Inconsistent Staff and Lack of Communication at Facility"
The staff at this place were a mixed bag. Some were nice and helpful, but others seemed lazy and not so friendly. We had to ask for things multiple times, and they didn't always get done. The care was okay for a short time, but sometimes they forgot important tasks. We had to bring in our own caregiver to make sure everything was taken care of properly. It would have been helpful if the facility communicated better with us about my dad's care.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living"
I enjoy it and would suggest it. The big TV room with comfy chairs is where my dad spends time with everyone. His floor also has cozy spots that create a community feeling. However, the business side of the company needs improvement.

"Unstable staff and poor handling of emotional incidents"
This place keeps changing their staff a lot. They don't have any steady routine. My grandma was upset one time and they simply called an ambulance and sent her 30 miles away to a different hospital, instead of the one close by that has a psychiatric division.

"Friendly Assisted Living with Room for Improvement"
This place is great overall, but they need to improve communication between residents and their family when family members are away. Having an outside family member who pays attention and advocates for the resident is important. We chose this community because it feels like home, has friendly people, resident pets, a high-quality staff, and fun activities like movies and concerts.
