The Sanctuary of West St. Paul

"Dangerous Conditions and Poorly Managed Facility"
This place is severely short on staff and the meals are bad quality and cold. The person in charge of fun stuff just won't plan things outside the facility. The washing and drying machines are not taken care of at all. And when the power goes out, the backup generator doesn't connect to the apartments. People in wheelchairs, on breathing apparatus, or people needing help getting up are at risk when this happens. Since started running things, all these big problems have gotten even worse.

"The Sanctuary: Fun Activities and Knowledgeable Staff"
We picked The Sanctuary because they had lots of fun activities, and the staff knew their stuff. The rooms were big and comfy. I’d tell others to check it out.

"Modern Assisted Living Tour"
Our family took an in-person tour, and it was a positive experience. The location was convenient, and the facility felt modern.

"A Well-Rounded Assisted Living Experience"
Putting COVID aside, the meals, dining, and activities deserve 5 stars. However, due to restrictions, meals are still good but better when residents can eat in the dining room. Activities fluctuate between opening up and shutting down when someone tests positive, but staff try their best. Overall, the value for cost is reasonable. The community won't kick you out if you run out of money, which is reassuring. We appreciate that they don't have a ratio with private pay like other places. During our tour, it felt like a perfect fit in many ways.

"Nice building and friendly staff impressed me for my mom"
The building is really nice. All the staff I met were friendly and genuine. I’m searching for a home for my mom and was very impressed with this place.

"Looks Nice, Lacks Senior Care"
My mom lives there now. The place looks nice and the people working there are super friendly. It could be awesome if they really looked after the older folks! They don’t make meals right for older people. There’s no food for those who need less salt or sugar, just stuff that’s bad for you. The nurses leave a lot too, and sometimes they mess up the medicines, which is really dangerous for people who need them to stay healthy. It feels like they care more about making money than taking care of the elderly. That’s why I’m giving it a low score. If your grandma or grandpa needs special help, this isn’t the right place.

"Safe, welcoming, excellent care, some dining issues, worth trying."
This facility is a great place for older adults seeking a safe and welcoming home—a true 'Sanctuary.' It lives up to its name and is one of the safest and most beneficial choices for living. Some residents might disagree with this value, but they don’t need the same level of care. Don’t let this discourage you from trying the Sanctuary. The care staff is amazing and constantly improves their methods for the benefit of the residents. While nothing is overly fancy, the facility is well-maintained. Direct care aides focus on being helpful and respectful, without intruding. However, the dining room and wait staff have had issues, though they are less important compared to the direct care providers, who are key in supporting everyone.

"Understaffing and poor management plague assisted living facility."
This place doesn't have enough staff and the services are really bad. The management team isn't doing their job properly. They don't make their employees take responsibility for their actions. I strongly suggest you search other places first, and only consider this one if you have no other option left.

"Dismal Food Quality and Care at New Assisted Living Home"
My mom moved into this assisted living facility late last summer. It's her first time in such a place. Weren't we disappointed, especially because it was a brand new home! The food is awful and you can never guess what's coming. Most times, residents send back their meals because the food is either undercooked, cold, or just bad tasting to the point of not being edible. I don't understand how a place like this continues to operate with funding from Minnesota's state government. They're basically robbing our precious family members of decent, healthy meals and causing them stress and worry. We plan to move my mom out as soon as we can!

"Bad Communication and Organization at Assisted Living Facility"
We tried to get my grandma settled here. We filled out all the forms and were told they had a moving pause going on. But when we called their main office, they had no clue about it. A month later, they email us saying my grandma can move in now. They have bad communication, they're disorganized and we think they acted unprofessional. Thank goodness we found a much better place for my grandma and she absolutely adores it. Don't be fooled by how new this place seems. These folks don't know what they're doing. After what we experienced, I'd be terrified to let anyone I care about live here! Keep searching - this place isn't worth your trouble! Definitely NOT a good experience for us!
