"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short in Care"
In my opinion, they didn’t watch her closely enough. I know her dementia made her difficult, but while she was there, she fell at least 6 times. The last fall caused a broken hip. After surgery, she never got better—just more pain. When she left the hospital, they said they couldn’t give her the care she needed. We had to find another place for her. She fell the day before Thanksgiving and never returned, yet they still charged her for December. They’re avoiding refunding that charge. Luckily, I haven’t sued them. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

"Not Happy with Assisted Living Rates"
They've made some changes, like having the same people in the memory care area and trying harder to keep the residents' rooms clean. The activities are just okay, but my mom usually doesn't join in. I'm not happy that they raised the rates this month. I know it's tough to find good help for this kind of place. I wish there were other options for my mom.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living Facility"
I chose this place because everything was included, and there were no extra charges for different levels of care. The boss was friendly and managed things well. But there aren't enough staff, so they're doing their best with what they have. Overall, I'd say it's worth considering.

"Uncertain Costs at Addington Place"
I really liked Addington Place of Shoal Creek. We didn’t pick this place for my mom because they charge for each little thing a worker does for a resident. This means we can’t guess how much we’d pay each month, making it hard to plan our spending.

"Disappointing Tour with Some Promising Aspects"
Our visit to Addington Place was okay. The lady who showed us around was friendly, though she usually doesn't do tours. The biggest issue was the dirty carpets right as we walked in. We might have thought about choosing them initially, but after seeing other places, our final pick really impressed us.

"Convenient, caring staff, and great meals"
We picked Addington Place of Shoal Creek because it's convenient. The staff is very caring and attentive to the residents. The meals are prepared by a chef, and she really enjoys them. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

"Weak Management and Dangerous Actions Plague Assisted Living Facility"
This place is a complete disaster, through and through. I do not recommend it for anyone, seriously. Even if you have to travel for an hour to put your loved ones in a different assisted living place, you must do it. It all boils down to the upper management's overall indifference and lack of responsibility. It's baffling how they rose to their positions. The named parties, whose names have been removed, should not be running this place. They can't even be trusted as greeters at Walmart. Shockingly, they hired a career criminal and one time, didn't even recollect the facility's keys from him before he was fired. This led the man to walk in after kitchen hours and take groceries. What other things could he have accessed? Is it the first such incident? Could he have entered rooms? How much havoc could have been wreaked by such a miscreant with such unrestricted access? Additionally, management throws their staff under the bus in trying to avoid the consequences of their own actions. A 17-year-old who got his first job there was treated shamefully, instead of this being a teachable moment. Senior staff, with their inaction and constant sidestepping of responsibility, unfairly blamed this young boy. I recommend you explore other options - this place does not deserve your hard-earned money. It is just terrible.

"Great staff and a nice place for my loved one"
I found this place to be great for my loved one. The staff is really nice. It was hard to decide where my loved one would be most comfortable. But this facility, along with the others I saw, was really nice.

"Needs some updating but a good second choice"
I toured this facility when looking for a place for my parents. It went well, and there wasn’t anything really wrong with it. My parents wanted to move into a new community and not feel like the "new kids." Here, some residents told us they had their own places to sit and that it takes a while to get used to everyone. The carpet looked a bit old, and the building could use some updates. But other than that, there wasn’t anything that bothered me. We chose a different community, but this was our second choice.

"Great Option, but No 2-Bedroom Available!"
The Benton House was really nice. If they had a 2-bedroom apartment available, we would have moved my parents there. The place had a good vibe and was very clean. Plus, everything was on one floor, which we really liked.

"A Supportive and Friendly Place"
The experience for my sister has been good. She is on a 60-day step-down program that lets her stay at a lower rate for 60 days until she finds a new home. That program has been helpful. The facility is nice, and the staff are helpful and friendly. My sister likes it there.

"Neglect and Staffing Issues at Benton House"
The care my relative receives in Shoal Creek's Benton House is unacceptable and not worth the money we invest. Despite numerous reports from other residents and staff about this LPN's behavior, the Benton House management seems unresponsive. Upon doing a bit of digging, I discovered that this LPN was let go from her previous job due to similar complaints. Moreover, the staff turnover rate at Benton House is quite high. They've lost exemplary employees, including a loved medicine dispenser whose departure deeply saddened the residents, including my own family member. I'm puzzled as to why competent employees are leaving, but the problematic ones remain. Despite paying for quality assistance, we're receiving far less.

"Not Meeting Expectations"
Our experience at Benton House has been a rollercoaster. Mom moved in just over a year ago, expecting the best care available. But there are concerns. Often, when Mom uses her call light, she waits 5-10 minutes for help, with the same excuse: they're assisting someone else. The staff is friendly but looks unhappy. Maybe it's the uncomfortable uniforms. The high employee turnover worries me. Dining isn't terrible, but the menu needs more variety. Meals repeat too often, and the activities are always the same Uno or bingo. Overall, the place is just okay.

"Not What We Expected"
This place looks nice, and the staff are friendly and helpful. We’re impressed with the reliable transportation, which often accommodates Mom even when she hasn’t scheduled it. They’re open to feedback and make improvements. However, there’s a big gap between what we expected and the reality. Many residents are far along the memory care/dementia spectrum, not ideal for Mom’s socialization needs. Despite efforts, stimulating activities are scarce—often just Uno.

Horrified
"Looks can be deceiving at Benton House Shoal Creek."
Benton House Shoal Creek may seem great with its nice building and friendly staff, but that’s where the positives end. My hope was for Mom to spend her remaining years there in peace. However, Benton House hides behind their contract. If your loved one catches diseases like Shingles or Scabies, they're out of there with no care about where they'll end up. When Mom was pushed out at 9pm, we had to grab all her stuff. We also got a bag with her meds, but not all of them. Overworked and not enough employees - that’s what I saw in administration which possibly caused Mom’s poor treatment initially. She missed important medications on her first day itself. Nobody took the time to know about Mom's needs. They neglected her for so long that she wasn't bathed, clothes were unwashed, and her room stayed dirty for two weeks. Their promise of 2-3 outings a month was false; the topic never came up. They even raised their daily care price right after Mom moved in, just adding $1830 to my yearly costs. Dinners there left much to be desired, often served cold and too hard to eat. The always-available 'Standard' menu wasn't really permanent; a requested item wasn't available twice. We shifted Mom to a better place, but if you know Alzheimer's, you know such moves can deeply upset the patient. So, think twice before choosing Benton House Shoal Creek.

"Dad Happy but Food Lacking Variety in Assisted Living Facility"
My dad seems happy there, which is good. But he doesn't really like the food because there isn't much variety. I don't know much about the activities because he's not very involved, but I think that's more on him than on the facility. They do have movie nights, which he does attend.

So Disappointed
""A beautiful exterior hides troubling truths""
The Benton House Shoal Creek is certainly nice to look at; it's only a year old, and it's clear that the people working in the Memory Care area are kind. However, that's where the good stuff ends. They don't tell you in the contract that if your loved one catches something like Shingles or Scabies, they'll get kicked out without any thought about how they'll get their care. When they forced us to leave, they didn't even give us all of my Mom's medicine. They told us to take all of her laundry with us. It seemed like the bosses were working too much trying to fill in for anyone who was away. Maybe that's why my Mom didn't get any attention for nearly two weeks. No showers, no laundry done, no room cleaning. My Mom even missed her nighttime and morning medication the first day. They promised us two or three trips out each month, but no one was even talking about them. They incorrectly told me the daily care cost, which raised my yearly expenses by $1830. The few meals I ate there were cold and sometimes too tough to bite into. They said the "Standard" menu is always available, but I was told twice that they were out of something we asked for. We moved my Mom to another place, but anyone who knows about Alzheimer's understands how hard these moves can be on someone suffering from it.
