"Decent care, but hard to reach the Director of Nursing"
My loved one stayed at Carnegie Village, and the experience was okay. My biggest complaint is that, no matter how many times I tried to meet with the Director of Nursing, she seemed to avoid me. One time, I waited an entire hour, only to be told she was too busy. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. The food, activities, and value for money were all good.

"Mixed feelings about meals but overall recommendable assisted living facility"
My family member isn't happy with the food; they find it bland. Besides that, everything is going well for her here. I think this place would be good for other family members and friends.

""Neglect and Poor Care at This Hideous Assisted Living Facility""
Don't make the mistake of sending a loved one here. My mom was here for 8 terrible days. One night, they left her sitting in her own mess for hours. My dad questioned them and they blamed it on weekend staff. Also, my mom told me that the staff ignore the call buttons at night and if she calls out for help, they yell at her. I decided to try this call button thing myself. I tested it at various times and days, and I kept track of when I called. They totally ignored my calls for help. This place is dreadful. If you care about your family member, don't let them come here. Trust me, I've followed the reviews about this place. Believe what's been said about the treatment of those who can't fight for themselves. It might look nice from the outside, but the inside is a nightmare.

"Caring Staff and Personalized Activities Shine at Assisted Living"
In general, the caregivers are really good at taking care of residents. The place where they live is nice and inviting, not sad. But sometimes, the people who handle the paperwork make mistakes and take a while to fix them. Still, the caregivers are amazing. They pay attention to what each resident likes and keep them busy with activities they enjoy. That's impressive!

"Assisted Living Facility Review: Good Independent Living, Room Size Concerns"
The independent living is great. Meal quality declined during my in-laws' stay. The community offers excellent room sizes and layout. They enjoyed a spacious two-bedroom, two-bath unit. Assisted living units are slightly smaller. There's a pleasant outdoor space for residents.

"Neglected & Misled: A Tale of Carnegie Village Rehab"
Carnegie Village Rehab: A Nightmare Experience for Elderly Care" If there were a rating as low as -10, that's what I'd assign Carnegie Village Rehab. My 93-year-old mom has spent the past three weeks there since she broke her hip, and almost daily we've filed a complaint. The only times we didn't were when we decided to overlook whatever went wrong those days. My mom is mentally sharp, a quality they seem unaccustomed too. I feel for the residents who don't have anyone to advocate for them or whose needs can't express properly. Supervision was important for my mom during transportation, but they failed massively. On one occasion, a nurse abandoned her in the bathroom. When we weren't present, they parked her in a corner far from her call light and water for two long hours. Those call lights might as well be decorations; they don't heed them at all. Too often, her call light would be ignored for an hour or more. Had she fallen, she'd be left helpless for more than an hour. Once when I called her, she needed to use the bathroom. Even after informing the front desk, it took half an hour for them to attend. Their regret is a worn-out phrase. The initial tour had given a different image: beautiful premises and nice rooms. But all that glitters isn't gold. Out of all the staff, only a few care about their duties. It took them one and a half weeks to help my mom shower, and only after we requested it. Food was another issue - either it was cold or not what she requested. One nurse misled us about a fentanyl patch that my mom wasn't supposed to have. Yet, when I asked another nurse, she flatly denied it and assured us that my mom received her morning Lasix. The only positive thing to say is their rehab was quite good.

"Mixed Review: Great Rehab, Poor Call Light Response at Carnagie Village"
My loved one recently went to Carnagie Village for rehab after breaking a bone. When looking for rehab, everyone has different needs. We wanted the best care for weakness and fatigue after surgery. We also wanted healthy food and good access to various medical services like internal medicine, psychiatry, and cardiology. We've tried other places in Kansas, like Foxwoods Springs and John Knox Village, but they were mostly subpar except for one facility. Carnagie Village has excellent rehab, good access to doctors, and great food. However, there's one major problem: they don’t answer the nurse call lights promptly, sometimes not at all. This is a big risk because patients can be left on the toilet for a long time. Many people I talked to had the same complaint. Once, my loved one was left on the toilet for 45 minutes and only got help when she started screaming and a doctor intervened. The caregivers are loving and compassionate, but they are understaffed. If you need quick responses to call lights, Carnagie Village might not be the best choice. If your loved one doesn’t need to use the call light often, then you might consider it. The care is 5 stars, but the call light system gets less than one star. I spoke with the Director of Nursing and the Administrator, but they didn't provide a solution or improvement. This review is for the rehabilitation side, not the skilled nursing care unit. For quick help with the call light system, consider John Knox Village. Their food isn’t great, but the nursing assistants provide excellent care. Slow response times at Carnagie increase the risk of injury, so I visit my mother every two hours. If you can’t be with your loved one often, I wouldn't recommend Carnagie Village. Make sure to do your research. It can be very stressful, especially at night. Be prepared to help your loved one with transfers to and from the bed, chair, and toilet.

"Mixed feelings about assisted living facility, hoping for improvement"
This community is really nice and caring. The people who live there look out for each other, and the food is tasty. But since they changed companies, things haven't been as good. We're especially worried about losing a great worker. The place needs some fixing up, like new floors and a better library. But the backyard is lovely, and it's convenient to get rides to places. We wish there were more things to do, but happy hour on Fridays is fun. Overall, it's a decent place, and we hope it gets even better.

Very nice. They said we should eat lunch first. The atmosphere, food, and service were great was funny. The people who live there were welcoming and nice. There are lots of things to do and places to go without going outside. I am really looking forward to moving into the nice apartment.

"Terrible Experience with Negligent Assisted Living Facility"
I entrusted my wife to the care of this facility, making sure to mention that some medications trigger negative reactions in her. Despite this, I heard she had been found wandering in the parking lot by herself adorned in her night garments - in a supposed secure environment. Soon after, she somehow made her way unaided to the administration building. Shortly thereafter, she began to fall repeatedly, requiring countless trips to the hospital. Every time I requested for a list of her current medications, the medical team denied me. In the following nine months, she had no less than ten more accidents, each sending her back to the ER. Eventually, they admitted they could no longer care for her and told me I had 30 days to find another place for her. During this transition, they would provide her with around-the-clock care, for which I was expected to foot the bill. On one occasion, I found her disoriented and nude, with her sofa befouled as she'd mistakenly taken it for a toilet. These issues only scratch the surface of the numerous problems during her short stay, making the place unbearable.

" "Terrible Staff Behavior; Avoid This Assisted Living Facility""
The admission coordinator at this facility was extremely impolite when I was trying to admit my dad here for rehab. She seemed to have unpredictable behavior changes, acting cheerful one moment and extremely rude the next. I also met another staff member who didn't exhibit professional behavior. Both of them ruined my experience and made me unwilling to recommend this place to anyone. Based on what a friend told me, it appears I'm not the only one who had a negative experience here. Consider another place if you're thinking about this one.

"Inadequate Care and Unhealthy Conditions at Assisted Living Facility"
We were unhappy with the service from this assisted living facility. The staff failed to provide adequate care for my mother. Instructions from her doctor were often ignored. There were multiple instances where requests we made never got fulfilled. Trusting the staff to handle necessary tasks became difficult. They would ignore the call button when my mom required help. The facility was consistently dirty, with particularly filthy carpets. The staff did not maintain cleanliness. The food provided was appalling, especially the meat, which was almost inedible for many residents. The staff's response to her care needs was appalling. I wouldn't advise anyone to consider this facility for their loved ones.

""Good for Assisted Living, Not for Rehab""
I thought I was checking into a rehab center to heal my injured foot but it turns out this place is for assisted living. The staff were nice and attentive, always bringing my food right to my room. However, there were a few times when they forgot to bring me my meals. A physical therapist was available to help me out, but I can't say I was overly thrilled being here. If someone needs assisted living, I'd suggest they consider this place.

"Facility Tour Disappointing: Poor Cleanliness Despite High Price"
After touring the facility, I wasn't really thrilled. The part for independent living looked nice and clean. But the section for the assisted living smelled like urine and wasn't as clean. Considering the cost, it didn't seem worth it to me.

"Avoid Tuterra-run Assisted Living Facilities: Prices High, Quality Low"
Downhill Journey After Tuterra Group's Takeover of Assisted Living Care!" Before the Tuterra Group took over, this center was an excellent care facility with potential, but unfortunately, it's quickly moving in an unfavorable direction. They've raised the prices and the quality amenities we were accustomed to are progressively diminishing. The original staff, which was much more like a second family to the residents, was mostly replaced with employees who seem to be constantly rotating. This shift displays the poor management choices. I'm left wondering how they must be treating these staff members. Moreover, wheelchair-bound individuals, beware! They've stopped providing transportation for you. If you're considering moving in, this is something critical to think about. You'll be utilizing outside transportation services such as OATS for your daily errands and appointments. You can probably find a luxurious new apartment in Johnson County, almost twice as good in terms of amenities and at a fraction of the monthly rent! Here, perks like an in-house bank and massage therapist are things of the past. When Carnegie Village first sprung up, there were delightful touches such as live entertainment at dinner, a diverse menu, and family events—stuff that is honestly missed now. Also, appearances can be deceiving. During a tour, the premises appear to be well maintained, but behind the scenes, it is a different story. Especially when the upper management treats the residents terribly, and the premises have hidden hazards. Residents have tripped because of badly maintained floors, and when employees get hurt on duty, they are intimidated by the management to avoid lawsuit cases. The management's repeated claim, "We have great lawyers" speaks volumes. Since they opened, the rent and additional charges have skyrocketly increased. The money isn't evidently being invested in the employees or the upkeep of the building. Moreover, they reportedly carry unpaid debts for previously undertaken services. It's disappointing to hear that the Tuterra family is indulging in expensive personal trips twice a year, benefiting off our senior citizens' expenses. This selfish behavior is simply unacceptable!

"Avoid if Dependent on Their Care, Poor Food and Management."
Assisted living sometimes served uneaten, fancy food. I didn't care for the management because they always wanted total control. They would switch medications without asking or even telling me. My loved one had to wait more than an hour for pain medicine. If you must rely on them to look after you or a loved one, I don't recommend this place. They were rough when getting her in bed. She disappeared for half a day without them noticing. I asked for finger foods and they insisted that's what they're providing. But I saw them serve spaghetti, and that's not a finger food.

We really like this place! It looks lovely with lots of light and clean decorations. The staff are amazing, always ready to help and answer our questions. They have cool stuff like a hair salon and activities to keep everyone happy. The food is yummy too, made by their chefs. Just be careful with valuables, as some things went missing.

"No Meals Included and Overpriced, Not Impressed with Facilities"
Without meals included for lunch or dinner, and the price not appearing lowered because of this, I don't think this is a good option. Mom wasn't overly satisfied either. The kitchens were nice, especially if you cook a lot, but she wouldn't need such an elaborate setup.
