Dougherty Ferry Assisted Living and Memory Care

"Lack of proper care and communication at an appealing facility."
The representative [name] who evaluated [name] prior to his admission seemed great and initially determined he would be at level 3. We informed them about [name]'s incontinence and daily living needs – like reminder to use the washroom, help with bathing, dressing, and maintaining personal cleanliness. However, our expectations fell flat once he moved in. [name] was often left unattended in soaked clothing and the strong odor in his room was unbearable. Despite our complaints, his room was left unclean, his bed linens unchanged and bathroom unmaintained. It got to a point where I had to spend half an hour tidying up his room. Neglect didn't just stop at cleanliness. [name] was regularly left ungroomed, in spite of us paying for these services. The response from staff, especially the head coordinator [name], felt dismissive, even increasing [name]'s care level and therefore our bill, without any reasonable explanation or improvement in service. We did observe that some staff members were diligent in their work, however, others seemed to hardly do anything. Just recently, we discovered that [name] hadn't received his nightly medication, Seroquel, for several days and no one had attempted to rectify the issue with the VA. Communication with us was non-existent. While the facility is physically appealing, their negligence in caring for memory patients and the lack of communication with families is absolutely unacceptable.

"Friendly Assisted Living with Honest Staff"
We chose this place because it feels friendly, the staff is nice, and the cost is reasonable. The director and sales rep were open about the good and not-so-good parts.

"Lack of Communication and Rehab Availability"
The main problem was that skilled nursing wasn't always there. When my dad fell and went to the hospital, they said he needed rehab before coming back. I didn't like that they didn't tell me directly, and rehab wasn't available at the facility.

"Facility falls short in level 4 care; consider monitoring options."
This place doesn’t have enough staff to take care of our mom properly, like they said they would. Sometimes, there’s only one person looking after a bunch of patients in the memory care unit. If you’re thinking about sending your loved one here, maybe think about putting a Wi-Fi camera in their room so you can see if they’re getting the care they need.

"Care facility neglects dementia patient, leads to hospitalization"
My grandma started at this assisted living place when her mind was still pretty clear. When she forgot things more often, they moved her to a special area where they watch you more closely. But so many workers have left there, both the bosses and the regular employees. Because of that, things aren't as good as they used to be. One time, they asked my grandma, who forgets a lot, if she wanted food. She said no, so they didn't give her anything! She ended up not having enough food or water and fell down. She had to go to the hospital because she was really sick. Don't take your loved ones here. There are better places.

"Troubling Care and Nutrition Lapses at Assisted Living Facility"
This assisted living facility has changed a lot since my mom first moved there in 2016. The management team keeps reshuffling and the quality of care is getting worse. My mom has dementia and was transferred to the memory care unit as her condition got worse. Even in this unit, her needs were too high for them to manage. I found out that my mom was losing a lot of weight because she wasn’t getting enough meals. Though my mom usually only has two meals a day, there were times when she didn’t even get that many. Some staff members would ask my mom, a patient with memory issues, if she wanted to eat and if she declined, they wouldn’t serve her a meal. In a care facility, this is a shocking practice. Once, my mom fell and had to go to the hospital. The doctors there said she was dehydrated and malnourished. Her own doctor said that she needed more care than this facility could offer. Unfortunately, the current management is failing to acknowledge that their care is substandard. I would advise you to consider other options for your loved ones.

"Communication Challenges"
The assisted living place needs to improve communication. We heard different stories from different people, which made it confusing. They acknowledged our concerns but didn’t take action. The units are nice, with washers and dryers, but we never received the promised handbook. Visiting hours weren’t clear, and strict Covid rules made it tough for my loved one. Disappointed they didn’t plan for vaccines. Overall, communication was poor.

"Poor Sanitation at Assisted Living: Neglected Cleaning Duty Claimed"
We keep telling the staff, even the boss, that her room isn't getting cleaned right. There's dirt on the floor, her food tray has leftover food stains, her bedsheets aren't getting washed, and dust keeps piling up on her counter. We moved her here because she couldn't clean after herself and didn't want her living in filth. Sadly, she's still living in gross conditions and we're stuck with the bill for it!

"Hidden Details at Dougherty Ferry Assisted Living"
We picked Dougherty Ferry because it felt like the best choice among the places we checked out. The staff is caring, and a couple of them really impressed us. After moving in, we discovered some hidden details about how they handle medical matters, and you need to provide some things yourself.

"Beautiful New Community, But Parking is a Problem"
We really liked this place and were planning to move my loved one here. However, the parking situation is not convenient for visitors. The building is new and beautifully decorated. But, since it's so new, my loved one felt a bit unsure and not very comfortable.

"Friendly and Lively Assisted Living!"
Dougherty Ferry Assisted Living and Memory Care has a fantastic atmosphere! It's very lively and clean. During our tour, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and answered all our questions. Although we chose a different community for my dad due to needing more living space, I still highly recommend this community based on what we saw.

"Responsive Staff!"
My parents recently moved into this community, and things are going well for them. Although adjusting to their new living environment has been a bit challenging, the staff has been very helpful and accommodating. They're skilled at their jobs and know exactly what they're doing. My mom got the spacious two-bedroom apartment she wanted. The only area for improvement is the meals—they need more variety and options.

"Friendly Staff, But Assisted Living Community Falls Short"
I visited this place thinking it could be good for my mom's needs. The workers were kind and pleasant. However, the environment didn't meet our expectations for mom's care. I recommend families go for a visit to understand the services and costs for their loved ones.

"Caring Environment with Kind Staff, Could Use More Activities"
This place is really good in many ways. The people who take care of the residents are very nice. The food is good, and everything is kept clean. The rooms are nice, and the whole place feels good. I think it would be better if the caregivers encouraged my mom to do more things so she doesn't sleep so much. It would also be good to have activities for people who can't move around a lot but still need to stay strong. But overall, it's a nice place, and the people who work there really seem to care about the residents.

"Pleased with Care and Staff"
My parents moved in last August. They really like the staff and the care they get. When I was looking for a place for them, the staff was professional and friendly. Overall, we’re happy with this facility. My parents hope for more activities, but I think they’ll improve as staff and residents collaborate.

"Mom's move was a great choice loving the care here."
My mom has been doing much better since she moved here. The staff are really nice and pay a lot of attention to everyone. They always try to make sure the residents are happy. She gets to go on outings and has fun with the different activities. The place is very clean, and I would definitely recommend it.
