"Memory Care Facility Tour: Clean, Friendly Atmosphere at Altenheim St. Louis"
We visited Altenheim St. Louis while looking for Memory Care for our loved one. We really liked it! It was clean and friendly, and the atmosphere was great.

"A Unique, Welcoming Community with a Beautiful View"
This community isn't super fancy like Sunrise, but that's what makes it special. The staff is really helpful and friendly. They even talked to the doctor to get my loved one a better wheelchair quickly. The meals aren't fancy, but they're like homecooked food. The desserts are a hit! They encourage family visits and have free overnight apartments. No charge for eating with our loved one in the dining room. Plus, the view of the Mississippi Bluffs is beautiful.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"
This place is small and cozy, and the staff knows everyone here. Because of the pandemic, there are many changes in the nursing staff, which makes the care a bit inconsistent. The oven hasn't been working, so they've been toasting or microwaving all the food for the residents. I'm not sure how long it's been broken. The food hasn't been great lately for my loved one.

"Friendly and accommodating staff; some communication challenges due to Covid."
The staff at Altenheim are always friendly and have been really great to work with. They've listened to our requests and either made them happen or explained why they couldn't. For instance, our Dad prefers to keep to himself and isn't into the activities they offer. Instead of pushing him, the team respects his space and just sits down for a chat with him. However, the messages we get at the front desk have been confusing and inconsistent. I think it's because the Administrator is trying hard to adapt to all the changes because of Covid-19.

"Neglected When Family Not Around"
My family member had a catheter for a long time. Once he no longer needed it, I left town for a bit. Turns out, nobody was checking on him and his body filled up with fluid, causing his legs to swell up. The place seemed alright only when I was there every day to ensure he was taken care of. If I wasn't there, they didn't even seem to do their job. I'd advise people not to consider this place for their loved ones.

"Unprepared and Unkind: A Disheartening Experience at Altenheim"
It's odd that none of the reviews have dates. My mother-in-law lived there for five years starting in 2014. The place was great, and she was taken care of until the last year. Three weeks ago, she was rushed to the ER with a high fever and trouble breathing. Doctors said her heart was working at less than 25%, and she had congestive heart failure. She was put in hospice care within eight days of being in the hospital. She never had heart problems before, despite being under the care of the resident doctor at Altenheim. When she came back to Altenheim with hospice care, it was clear they couldn't handle it. Her daughter and I spent many hours with her in her room and saw a lot of incompetence. Before, she could come down to visit us on the first floor, which is nice and well-kept. But the truth is, the bathroom and kitchen floors were slippery and dangerous. We saw a resident with a walker almost wander off the property onto the busy street. Sometimes, we'd find my mother-in-law covered in food because she was left alone to eat, despite our instructions and the hospice nurse's. She didn't get consistent care because the staff didn't communicate well. Some didn't even know what hospice meant! And it didn't stop there. The final straw was when a bed opened up at a hospice house for my mother-in-law. The administration brought my sister-in-law to a room and yelled at her for 15 minutes. They accused her of lying and not talking to the staff. They threatened to sue her for not giving 30 days' notice for moving to hospice! They said she owed money and hadn't paid her bills on time. All while she was dealing with the fact that her mother was dying. None of it was true. There are some kind people who work at Altenheim, and I appreciate them doing their best. But the people in charge should be ashamed of how they handled things.

"Friendly Staff but No Medicaid for Memory Care"
This place is a lot bigger than where my dad lives now. It looked like they had enough staff for all the residents, and everyone seemed friendly and helpful. The only problems were that they didn't have any current openings, and even if they did, they don't take Medicaid for the memory care wing.

"The assisted living tour was disappointing."
I had an appointment to tour their assisted living facility, but when I arrived, I waited for about 20 minutes because the person who was supposed to give me the tour wasn’t there. Eventually, the chef stepped in and showed me around. I noticed the director passing by, but they didn’t apologize or acknowledge me. Overall, it was a negative experience, and even though I left my contact information, they never followed up.

"Great staff, good food, clean place, a bit pricey"
The staff are super nice and always say good things. They check on my mom who lives there now. They make sure she takes her medicine. The food is really good and they have nice meals. Her room is comfy. They always have activities and the place is clean. They take Medicaid after two years of paying yourself. It's a bit expensive, but I would recommend it.
