"Mixed Experience: Good Facility, Confusing Billing and High Costs"
The facility was good overall but pricey. The Dallas billing causes confusion with unexpected fees and unresponsive service, redirecting issues to local staff.

"Understaffing Concerns and Workload Distribution in Assisted Living Facility"
The facility often lacks enough staff. I raised concerns but worry about repercussions. Current staff work tirelessly. More patients arrived, but workload distribution needs improvement. The first floor feels neglected unintentionally.

"Understaffed Facility Causes Medical Issues"
I wouldn't recommend this place. They've been short-staffed for the last 15 months but still keep admitting people they can't properly care for. As long as the money comes in, they keep residents who need skilled care. My loved one didn't get his meds on time and ended up in the hospital several times with fluid overload. He doesn't have any cognitive issues, so he knew when his meds were late.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short in Care and Communication"
My mom stayed at Brookdale of Durham for a year and 7 months. The medical team didn't give her medicines right, and the office staff were always late with insurance reviews. They messed up our bills many times, charging us too much. They changed the nurse hours without telling us, almost canceling her insurance. They let me give my mom her own medicines, but later I found out it wasn't allowed. The administrators hardly ever returned my calls; I had to go there to talk to them. Some of the daily staff were rude, especially when I asked about bathing and medicines. I kept track of her medicines, and they often missed giving them or had too many left.

"Mixed Experience with Staff and Maintenance"
The people who work here are nice, but sometimes there aren't enough of them. They still haven't fixed some things we asked about before. Talking to my family is alright, but it took a while to figure out what to do for my loved one every day. They help with medicine, bathing, and getting dressed.

"Overcharged for undelivered special care service"
They billed us more for special aid. My message: don't advertise a care service that you aren't actually going to provide.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs Improvement"
We're not happy here. Cable in our room isn't working. Asked multiple times, still not fixed. Can't go to dining room until outside doctor says okay, but husband can. Our doctor's on vacation. Asked for meals in room, only happened a few times, not fresh. Frustrated with experience. Unsure about recommending to family and friends.

"Needs Better Staffing and Communication"
Brookdale offers a bunch of fun stuff to do; however, they’re struggling to keep enough workers around. When it’s time for one worker to tell another about what’s going on, it doesn’t always happen right. That means sometimes they miss things when people start and end their shifts. They’ve got a lot of cool activities like trips, bingo, tea parties, bible groups, and fitness classes, plus more. The big thing I’d tell Brookdale is they need to work on keeping more workers and make sure their way of sharing information gets better. This will help stop mix-ups or missing info when there’s a shift change.

"Secure, communicative staff; lots of activities for residents."
I would recommend this place for your loved ones. They have a solid safety plan and a secure environment for residents. The staff keeps families well-informed with regular town halls and open communication. There are plenty of activities for the residents.

"Friendly Assisted Living with Some Room for Improvement"
We chose Brookdale Durham because we needed a place where my parents could stay together. They have larger apartments that suit their needs. The staff members know all the residents personally and are very helpful. However, the call bell system isn’t great—the response time is slow, and the functionality could be better. Overall, I’d recommend this facility to others.

"Convenient Location and Caring Staff Make This a Great Choice"
I picked this place because it was close to me, making it easy to visit my Mom. When I started looking for places last year, the administrator and his assistant arranged a tour for us at 9 p.m. This was the only place willing to meet our needs. The administrator worked very hard to get my mom a respite bed in just 4 hours. The staff were all professional, positive, and kind. They really understand the people they care for. I would recommend this place.

"Convenient Location Needed for Dad's Assisted Living"
The Brookdale Durham is a nice place. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions. We wanted a brighter, airier place for my dad. The main reason we didn't choose this community was its location. I would have to make time to visit my dad there.

"Special Offer Confusion at Brookdale Assisted Living"
Brookdale sent some special offers, which got my attention. I showed them to my cousin who was in rehab, and she liked the prices. We had to act fast to grab the special, so we made a deposit. During the tour, we discussed prices with the staff. I thought my cousin qualified for the specials, but they didn't appear on her recent bill. Thankfully, the billing lady was great and fixed the issue. However, it's been tough dealing with the community's mistake.

"Comfortable and welcoming community for elderly parents with friendly staff."
The staff here is really friendly and nice. The food is great, and the place feels just like home for my parents. It's always clean and tidy. My parents think there are plenty of activities; they're just still getting used to it.

"Not the right tools!"
I went on the tour and the staff was great. They were on top of everything. The only thing that worried me was they don't use Hoyer lifts, which my husband needs. So, it wouldn't have been good for us.

"Warm and Welcoming Assisted Living Community"
The place was really nice. The people there, both the workers and the people living there, made us feel like we belonged. If we hadn't decided to live on our own, we would've seriously thought about staying here.

"Friendly Staff and Good Food"
The staff is friendly and responds quickly to requests. However, there’s some confusion due to shift changes when it comes to my dad’s care. The food is good, but we need to make sure it’s chopped correctly.

"Daytime Staff Struggles with Basic Care Tasks"
Sadly, it's not ideal to give a review right now. Our family member moved into this place this year, and we're still trying to organize the basic stuff. Even simple care and attention seem to be hard for the day staff.

"Poor Treatment and Cold Food at Expensive Brookdale"
Her stay at this place was really bad. She was treated poorly, having to eat in her room with only plastic utensils. Whenever they brought her food, it was already cold. They even messed up her meds. Some employees were great, but a bunch of them weren't friendly at all. On top of that, Missy, the marketing boss who I really liked, quit which seems to be a trend there. I don't like how the good ones keep leaving. I couldn't advise anyone to use Brookdale's services. It costs too much. Plus, I'm pretty sure their medicine handlers aren't even certified.

"A Warm and Supportive Place for Our Family"
The staff here are really helpful and answered all our questions about the place and its services. We checked out several facilities, and this one felt the most welcoming to us. My dad is living here now, and my mom will join him in about a month. It would have been better if there was more communication about how the care is given, which would have made the transition smoother. We moved Dad from a rehab/nursing home to this place, so it’s been an adjustment period for our whole family.

"Nice Rooms in Older Building with Friendly Staff"
The house was a big brick building that looked like it was from the 70s, kind of like an apartment building. The rooms were really nice, but the place was a bit older. The staff seemed very friendly.

"Carolina House of Durham - 3.5 stars"
Overall, we like this community. It looks nice, and the medical care is good. They're friendly and take good care of my dad's health. The food service is great, and my dad enjoys the meals. However, there are communication issues between sales, resident services, and billing. We're still working on fixing a billing mistake related to a move-in incentive. The business director is friendly and helpful. The facility itself is attractive, and the activities are interesting. The resident rooms could be cleaner, and there should be more interaction between residents and management. Overall, my dad likes it here.

"Housekeeping Concerns and Mold Spots: Improvement Ideas for Assisted Living"
The cleaning at this place needs a boost. You need to remind them for light housekeeping, and it seems like they don’t do it every week. Also, there’s this stuff on the air vents in the hallway that looks like mold. Their grade overall is a 92.
