"Friendly Community with a Memorable First Impression"
The first community stood out to me, so I chose it. The tour was good, and the people were friendly.

"Care Facility Neglects, Forcibly Exiles Inadequately Prepared Residents"
Even a half-way house is a generous comparison for Burke Long Term Care in Morganton, NC. My brother, who has lived in group homes for the last 20 years, only moved here recently. Now, they're throwing him out leaving him to fend for himself. The State of North Carolina has officially stated that he's not emotionally or mentally ready to live alone. My brother can't manage money without spending every penny and cannot control his emotions, especially anger, without medication. I've tried to let him manage his own meds and live alone during visits, but it didn't even last a week. Even simple tasks like cooking are a challenge. Once, a thoughtless neighbor set off fireworks and my terrified brother just froze in place. I had to literally move him inside and give him noise cancelling headphones because he was so scared. Whenever he visits, I never leave him alone because even minor disturbances upset him. It makes me angry that a care facility can kick people out without thinking twice, people who can't live on their own. That's the exact reason my brother was put in a group home 20 years ago!
