"Great Staff, but Need Better Doctor Updates"

The staff at Gabriel Manor has been wonderful during this uncertain time. As a first-time caregiver for my aging parent, their support has been a blessing. I appreciate their efforts to make my mother feel comfortable. However, I do wish we received more consistent updates from the doctors regarding her progress.

"Caring Staff and Nutritious Meals"

So far, our experience has been good. The staff at the community is wonderful, doing their best. Communication with families is good when we have questions or concerns. They serve three meals a day with choices for residents, and they encourage eating.

"Great dementia care with proactive staff and good communication"

My mom has been doing really well here. They’ve been very proactive, catching issues like drops in her blood pressure and sugar that we might have missed at home. The big plus for us was that the facility is part of Saber Health Care, which means they follow skilled nursing standards. Most places we saw had small memory care units with around 20 beds connected to larger assisted living facilities. This place focuses specifically on dementia care, with a big memory care unit and a smaller assisted living area. They took time to understand my mom and find a good roommate match. I wish there were more programs and activities since my mom is still quite active. Overall, it’s been a positive experience, and we’d definitely recommend them. The price is great and much more affordable. Communication is excellent, with timely responses. The head nurse in memory care is fantastic, and we hope she stays. The temporary director is also very good and responsive. They offer two types of physical therapy on site.

"New Manager and Crowded Residents Impact Choice"

This community seemed nice, but the new manager and crowded residents made us choose elsewhere.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living During Covid Restrictions"

It's been tough with Covid. Visit often if possible. We couldn't visit due to Covid. Sometimes there weren't enough staff, other times it was okay. Staff tries hard but often not enough. It's cheaper than other places we looked at. They're trying their best.

"Avoid Gabriel Manor: Poor Care and Management Issues Abound"

Gabriel Manor Assisted Living is awful in my opinion. It feels like they provide the worst care around. Honestly, a fast food place probably keeps its staff longer. There's a big problem with the bosses at the top. They don't seem to have a clue what's going on in their own building. If you visit Monday through Friday, you might see the director. But, she's usually locked in her office, hardly ever coming out. I think the workers care, but without good guidance, training, and experience, they can only do so much. Most days, it feels like the place just runs itself. They handle people with memory problems by just giving them drugs or locking them in their rooms. I've even seen medicine on the floor that hasn't been swallowed. The building is usually way too cold for the patients' comfort, but right for the staff. If you care about your family, avoid this place like the flu and find somewhere else.

"Unreliable Facility Breaks Trust and Fails to Meet Needs"

This facility is really unreliable. The person in charge of sales told us one thing, then changed what they said later. That's a big reason we can't trust them when it comes to talking about future residents' families. We talked with the sales boss about adding my husband to Magnolia Glen for a short, 2 week stay. The boss met with my husband and family when giving us the important forms to be filled out, and told me there shouldn't be any issues. But when we showed up the Tuesday before my husband was supposed to move in on Friday, things changed. They didn't tell me anything about not letting him stay. In fact, they took all our paperwork and tried to take full payment, but they couldn't because the person who usually takes payments was gone. Then I got a call on Wednesday from them saying they couldn't let my husband stay, because they didn't think they could give him what he needed. I tried telling them my husband doesn't need much, since he can take care of himself a lot. But what they told me didn't have to do with him, it was more about what made things easier for them. Even though they talk about being a secured memory care unit for dementia patients, they don't accept all types of dementia patients. They said most of their patients had dementia from a stroke and since my husband didn't have a stroke and can take care of himself, they wouldn't let him stay. They also thought he might try to leave. I guess their secured unit isn't really secured. They didn't give us a hint about these issues before the call. I wouldn't want to put my loved one there without thinking it through first.

"Assisted Living Facility Tour Disappointing, Not a Good Fit"

We toured the place, but it didn't feel right. Not for my husband. People were nice, answered questions, showed us around.

"Decent Assisted Living, Well-Maintained with Friendly Staff"

My visit to this place was okay. Everything looked neat and tidy. The people working there were friendly. There were many things to consider when deciding where to put my husband. This seemed like the right place for him and his needs.

"Review summary: This facility has declined in quality; not recommended."

I'm pretty sure all the high ratings come from people who work at this place. Don't send your loved ones here if you care about them. This spot just isn't as good as it used to be. It smells bad, the staff is always changing, and if someone says an elderly person fell and no one reported it, take it as fact! I've run into the same issue. The new boss will leave you spinning. They hardly ever answer or return phone calls. I'm warning you, don't put anyone you care about in this place. I've asked several times for changes—they last for a few days and then it's back to the usual problems, if not worse. Don't buy the line about things getting better with new management, because they aren't. Right now, I'm looking for a new place. This Place is way too pricey for the crummy service you get.

"Assisted Living Facility Fails to Meet Expectations Amidst Lawsuit"

Don't be fooled by the nice pictures; this place has big problems! There's a lawsuit against Gabriel Manor and other Saber Health facilities. They've had four executive directors in two years, and staff turnover is really high. A loved one complained that a Certified Nursing Assistant spoke to her in a mean way. There have been medication errors and failure to give meds. They didn't tell families when a loved one was sick or saw the doctor. There are bad smells in the hallway, and they're not consistent with daily living activities. Two hours after a meal, there are still food and liquid spills on the dining room floor. The meals were good when there was a real chef, but things have gone downhill lately. I've seen all this and more personally.
