"Expensive Care Facility Fails to Provide Adequate Dementia Care"

In December, I relocated my parents. My mom went to the Homeplace and my dad moved into my house. If your loved one is in assisted living, they'll likely have a decent life. But if they're in the memory care center, expect the staff to want them to be calm and quiet. They prefer residents in memory care to sit quietly around a small table in wheelchairs. The quieter, the better. However, people with dementia aren't always quiet. They'll use medication to ensure this. After they threatened to hospitalize my mom for a psych evaluation for 72 hours, I took her home. Yes, she still has dementia. That won't change. What has changed is that I'm no longer paying over $8,000 a month for minimal care. I noticed after installing a camera in her room that she was often left crying during the day. There were no bed checks at night. Not every two hours, not at all. This isn't a place for Mom. They don't know how to care for someone with dementia.

"Great place but needs more activities"

We are still figuring things out, but overall it's a great place. I appreciate the staff's contact; it feels like we are really working as a team. They put in a lot of effort to find the best plan for Mom. They need more activities; that's my main complaint. I see my loved one in her room a lot and she seems bored. I would recommend Home Place of Burlington to others.

"More Cleaning Needed; Pendant Response Times Could Improve"

They should clean residents' rooms more often. The pendant worn around their neck isn't just for emergencies.

"Mixed Impressions at Home Place"

We visited Home Place and noticed it wasn't as clean as another facility we'd seen earlier. They offer various levels of care, including independent living, assisted living, and memory care. While we were primarily looking for an independent place, we'll keep it in mind for the future.

"Caring staff, tough dementia transition, small memory care unit."

Caring staff, tough transition for dad, needs better dementia training.
