"Disappointing Experience at Assisted Living: Lacks Empathy, Maintenance Issues"
We had a really bad experience with the new boss! The rooms aren't kept up well. Dust bunnies are everywhere. The shower floors feel slimy. Some folks there are nice. But, they really lack understanding for folks with memory problems. I never got to try the food. They do have a bunch of activities listed, though.

"Great Care and Comfort at The Laurels"
We had no major issues with the staff, except for some medication mix-ups. They were all very nice and treated my dad with kindness and respect. The place was always clean and smelled fresh. My dad enjoyed the food and got to know the staff well. I love that if he didn't show up in the dining room, they brought him a tray. Or he could choose to eat in his room and order his tray ahead of time. Other places charge extra for this. My family would recommend The Laurels to others. We've had several family members there over the years. My dad was in respite care and the room was well-furnished and designed for him. If this location was closer to my home, he would have stayed there for a long time.

"Assisted Living Concerns Need Addressing"
Since moving to Laurels at my mom faced stomach issues. Some days, no one checked on her. Managing meds was tough due to staffing changes. Omnicare gives too much blood pressure meds as pills can't be halved. I caught this and am sorting with her doctor. Mom says the new cook adds sugar to everything. I ate with her once; the menu was strange but tasted fine. Mom won't join activities, saying they're too old for her she's 88. Many residents use wheelchairs or walkers.

"Assisted living lacks organization, turnover, and unmet promises disappoint."
This place isn't very organized. They were all about getting us to sign up, but after we signed, things went downhill. They said they didn't get some paperwork, but really they just wanted it done differently, and no one told us. I had to rush to get it sorted out right before my mom was supposed to move in. Even though I had been there many times before, no one mentioned we needed more paperwork until the last minute. They wanted me to sign in February, but I didn't hear back from our lawyer until March, so we didn't sign until later. We didn't even get the keys until later. I spent a week cleaning and organizing her room before she moved in on a different date. Our bill came, and it was for February and March, even though we didn't have legal documents until March and didn't use the space until then. I've emailed three times to get it fixed, but no luck. It seems like they've lost a few staff members since we moved in, which isn't a good sign. They talked about a big welcome celebration for new residents, but all we got was a quick handoff in the hallway. They have lots of empty rooms, so they're probably just focused on getting more people to sign up without following through on promises. I wouldn't recommend this place; you can find something better elsewhere, like their other community.

"Serious Concerns at Assisted Living Facility, Family Frustrated"
I still haven't gotten a copy of Dr. [name removed]'s assessment. This place definitely needs some improvement. The call lanyard system barely works; it’s more unreliable than it should be. I've asked what’s being done about it, but got no reply. They said they’d check the logs, but there was no follow-up. When I asked [name removed] about it, she told me the logs were deleted. When we push the button for help, it's a guessing game how long it'll take for someone to come—sometimes it's 20 minutes, other times over an hour. A few weeks ago, our loved one fell and nobody informed us. I had to practically beg for an incident report. The housekeeping is mediocre at best. They just mop the middle of the room and often don't bother to empty the trash or replace the liners. You’ll find trash or pine needles under the end tables that haven’t been vacuumed up. The toilet only gets cleaned now and then. Laundry is another issue. We’re still missing pieces, and I was told it’s because the laundry worker quit. We didn't know where the laundry was for a couple of days. Medication times are inconsistent, sometimes as late as 9:30 PM, and they have to wake her up to give it. My mom fell late on Christmas Eve, and the CNA called me to come pick her up because she dislocated her shoulder. I insisted on an ambulance, but they refused initially because they said insurance wouldn't cover it. Only after I got very upset did they call one. It turned out she had a broken humerus bone. Taking her in my car would have made it worse. I’ve repeatedly asked for explanations about the levels of care, but got no responses. The nursing director takes over a week to answer my questions. We've moved mom to rehab, and we won't be returning to this facility.

"Nice Place, Not the Perfect Fit"
The Laurels is a really nice place. It’s pretty big and has lots of people living there. We wanted a smaller spot where everyone gets more special attention. I did notice a few spots that could be cleaner. But all in all, it seems like a good place, just not what we were looking for.

"Facility Feels Too Large for Our Needs"
We visited this place, and it seemed nice. But it felt too big for what we wanted, with fewer staff for residents.

"Clean and Friendly Assisted Living with Room for Food Improvement"
The community is always neat and clean, and the staff has been really nice and helpful. They take good care of us, though we think the food could be better. Based on our experience, we would suggest this community to others.

"Lack of Variety in Activities, But Plenty of Ice Cream!"
Adding to my earlier review, I forgot to mention that the activities here are pretty repetitive. They don't really offer much to keep older folks mentally engaged. And there isn't a lot to do that involves using your hands. But they do have lots of ice cream get-togethers. If you want an assisted living place where residents don't get bored, you might want to check out other options!

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living"
My mom’s been here for a year and a half. Lately, things have really shifted. The staff keeps changing, and the care isn’t consistent. The management tries, but they don’t always do what they say. If we had to find a new place for Mom, we’d go somewhere else.

"Beware! Rapid Decline in Service at Assisted Living Facility"
My folks have been at this assisted living place for over a year and the service is getting worse every day. There's just problem after problem, like misplaced medication or not giving it out on the right schedule. They also keep demanding a higher Level of Care for no real reason. Plus, they're always trying to send people to their 'Haven,' hinting that they now need to be cared for there because of memory problems. Someone warned me not to have my parents move in here, but the people running it seemed so genuine and friendly - turns out it was all an act. The food's barely edible. And don't even get me started on the constant change in staff – from the director to the nurses, waiters, and med techs, it never ends. Of course, they always have some good excuse ready. If I had a chance, I'd take back the fee we paid to join this community and find a better place for my mom and dad. Look for more reviews online to see what I mean. Be careful about this place.

"Mixed Feelings about The Laurels Assisted Living Facility"
My family member has been living at The Laurels for a few years now. Overall, it's a pretty nice place. They recently got new furniture for the main living room, but it's not very practical. It looks nice, but it's too big for most of the residents, and the fabric isn't easy to clean if there's a spill. They only updated the main areas like the living and dining rooms, though. The resident rooms really need an update too. They also brought in a new manager this past year. Unfortunately, she's not very friendly. She doesn't listen to us and just makes decisions without asking our opinion. It feels like she doesn't care about what we think. The food at The Laurels is very good, and most of the caregivers are nice and really care about the residents. But there are a few issues. Some small things have gone missing from my loved one's room, and sometimes the cleaning staff help themselves to candy from our kitchen drawer without asking. This place costs a lot of money, so I expect more from the manager and head nurse. They're not doing a good job. Many people have complained, but the company doesn't seem to care. I don't want any trouble for my parent, so I'm leaving this review anonymously. That's how little I trust the current management at The Laurels.
