"Mixed Feelings about The Pines Assisted Living"

We've had some problems with staff coming and going, which makes it hard to communicate. They don't seem to understand that we prefer to handle Mom's laundry ourselves, and things keep disappearing. Mom has fallen three times from her wheelchair, even though we've asked them not to leave her alone in it. They also haven't been transparent about a COVID outbreak. The food is just okay; they serve a big meal at noon and sandwiches at night. It would be nice to have some soup or warmer options, and the presentation isn't great. We hoped for better with only 50 residents. We chose The Pines for its location and cost, but we pay extra for Mom's care, yet she's fallen three times in two months. Overall, it's average, but we're considering a nursing home with more staff.

"Super pleased with attentive and kind-hearted care"

The staff is always attentive to our needs and great listeners. They strive to be kind-hearted and provide care that makes us, as family members, feel at ease. We love how they are an all-in-one facility. Mom can stay with Dad (who has dementia). He is now in hospice care, and they don't have to move out of their spot. The head of the facility is always present and visits when appropriate with a gentle, loving way. The nursing staff is on top of all the latest happenings in their care and calls us when necessary. Super pleased!

"Distant and Dated: The Pines of Newmarket"

Our family checked out The Pines of Newmarket in person, and it wasn’t our cup of tea, even though the price was right. It’s a long drive from where we prefer, with twisty, hilly roads. That hour-long trip would be tough, especially when it snows. The place needs a lot of updates, too. They said they’re fixing things up soon, next year, or later this year. The vibe was pretty old-school, almost like being back at camp when I was a kid!

"Building Change Affects Admission"

My family member was supposed to move into the assisted living community, but they changed their mind because some residents had to switch buildings when one of the sister buildings closed.

"Assisted living staff friendly, lacked dementia care expertise and staffing."

The staff at this facility were friendly and compassionate, which stood out to me. They made efforts to help when my father struggled to adjust, but ultimately, he had to move out because it wasn't the right fit for him. There were activities available, and the activity director arranged a special one for my dad, although I never saw it being used with him. The person who worked in the front office was exceptionally helpful. Even after my father moved, she continued to search for his lost glasses. They were accommodating when multiple family members visited, allowing us to use the private dining room. Overall, the facility was generally clean, but there were times when certain areas had an odor. I would consider recommending the Pines with a cautionary note. While they advertise as specializing in memory care and assisted living, they were not adequately equipped to handle my father's dementia. I often received calls to calm him down, indicating they may not have had enough staff or the training necessary to manage and de-escalate situations effectively.

"Disappointing Visit to Pines: Unhygienic Conditions and Unexpected Charges"

I've visited the Pines in Newmarket multiple times. The halls and bathrooms often smelled of urine, which made me want to puke and forced me to hold my breath. Once, during a group activity, I was sitting next to a lovely elderly lady who had memory issues. She grabbed my hand, and I was shocked to see dark dirt under her nails. When I inquired about it, she told me it was from scratching an itch on her bottom. I immediately reported this to a staff member, who proceeded to escort the elderly woman away. On a different visit, I was invited to a free lunch with the residents. The meal served was spaghetti, but it was cold and watered-down. For dessert, we had ice cream which was freezer-burned. To my surprise, the chef demanded $20 for the meal. Despite being told the meal was complimentary, he insisted we pay. I'll never return.

"Mixed Feelings about The Pines Assisted Living Facility"

My family member is safe and looked after at The Pines. They keep an eye on her and provide care, but it could be better. I don't see much happening for her beyond meals. She's often in her room with nothing to do. The food isn't good, and her room isn't clean. I've talked to staff, but changes aren't happening. I might need to talk to management. It's good she's safe and fed, but I want more.
