"Positive feedback for Residence at Park Ridge from resident's family."
My loved one is at Residence at Park Ridge, and she's had a good experience overall. I'd suggest this place to others!

"Dehumanizing Ownership Change in Assisted Living Facility"
I've lived here for some time now and have witnessed the frequent changes in management and ownership. If I had somewhere else to live, I wouldn't hesitate to move. While there are still a few fantastic staff members here, severe budget cuts have resulted in a decrease of on-site facilities and staff. In my opinion, the new owners do not seem to care about us. I'd prefer to live almost anywhere else but here. I miss the days when we had our wonderful concierge, whose sole job was to keep us happy and entertained. It's devastating that not only was he fired, his whole position got removed. We feel like we're considered as merely replaceable components of their business. Shame on them for making us feel this way! The general feeling among the residents here is that we no longer feel like valued residents but rather like inmates. I tell my friends that it feels like we're now just waiting for our turn in the morgue. It's harsh, but that's exactly how I feel.

"Disappointed with Poor Communication and Concerns Over Administrative Issues"
No show for our scheduled tour on a weekend afternoon. Nobody gave us a call to inform us beforehand. They instructed us to return on Sunday and when we did, we were informed that the tour guide had changed her schedule and wasn't available. The cook ended up showing us around, but he did not know the cost or other vital information. The facility was modern and the rooms were bigger than other places we've seen, but we're really worried about the management and organization here. A friend of ours mentioned that they hadn't paid one of their vendors in several months and that they have a high staff turnover. We won't be choosing this place!

"Refund issues following death at "Atrium Post-Acute Care of Park Ridge""
Hey folks in Park Ridge and nearby places, be alert about The Atrium in Park Ridge, New Jersey. My grandmother lived in The Atrium from November 2017 until her passing in August 2018. Ever since, we've been in discussions with the corporate office to get our refund. Here we are, two months later, with little progress. We heard via email on September 10 that the check was being processed. However, two weeks ago we got another email stating "there were no updates at this time.” Despite leaving numerous voicemails and messages for various people, my Dad returned to The Atrium to inform them we're STILL waiting for the check. They said he’d get the check by November 1st, but also mentioned we’re not the only ones waiting for their money back. I want to tell you that this is how The Atrium treats the families of their deceased residents. The thing that makes it even more frustrating is that The Atrium requires payment thousands of dollars ahead of time. So, families have to prepay for care and when their loved one leaves or sadly passes away, getting the refund is not easy at all.

"Opting for a Cozier Setting"
We visited Atrium Senior Living of Park Ridge. It was neat and the staff was nice. But it felt too much like a hospital. We decided on a different place that felt more like home.

"Clean and friendly, lacking sufficient care for loved one"
The person who showed us around the place was really nice and knew a lot. The place looked clean, and they have stuff to do every day. But I didn't think they could take care of my loved one properly.

"Great place, but needed more care for mom"
The Atrium Senior Living of Park Ridge was a really nice place. It was always clean, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I would have loved to live here myself. I picked a different community because my mom needed more care, but this was a great choice.

"Decline in Care Quality Following New Management at The Atrium"
My relative lived at the Atrium for a few months in 2015, and I was genuinely surprised by the low level of care she received. A new manager and his team had recently taken over, and it seemed like the quality went down quickly. Even though the physical and occupational therapists were fantastic, the remaining caregivers were awful. A lot of them spoke Haitian around the patients, making everyone uncomfortable. If they were kind, their language wouldn't have mattered, but they barely cared for their patients and were constantly speaking another language. Patients had to wait nearly an hour at times for a response to use the restroom. Nobody wanted to physically assist patients, even though that's part of the caregiver's training. It didn't seem like any of the staff members had been trained or even wanted to use their skills on patients with physical needs. The nurses were nearly as bad, and the lead nurse who started with the new manager was particularly harsh. My relative was simply stuck there, with no help even when she got sick. There was no effort made to understand her illness. They say their doctor checks on patients regularly, but actually, he hardly ever sees them. For the Atrium, subacute equals substandard.

"Avoid the Atrium: Terrible Care and Bad Staff Attitude"
My relative was at the Atrium for a few months in 2015 and I was totally surprised at how poor the care was. The place was taken over by a new leader and his team, and everything went downhill real quick in terms of quality. Sure, the physical therapists and occupational therapists are great, but the rest of the caregivers are awful. Most of them speak Haitian around the patients which isn't cool at all. Plus, they don't even seem to care about their patients. People sometimes had to wait almost an hour to get help after ringing a call bell. The caregivers weren't helpful, even though they had been trained to handle people without getting hurt. The nurses were just as bad, especially the main nurse who arrived with the new boss. My relative just felt like she was being stored there and when she got sick, no one tried to figure out what was wrong. They say their doctor visits the patients all the time, but he doesn't really do that. At the Atrium, subacute truly means substandard.

"Restrictive and Unhygienic: Not Your Ideal Home"
I talked to two staff members who were all about business. They asked about money first, then showed me around. The 23-room facility felt more like a hospital than a home. There's no place for residents to stroll and the dementia care area seemed too tight. The end of the hallway had a strong smell of pee. No joke. There was a used rubber glove in the middle of the hallway. It could have been used for cleaning or a medical check. Either way, it shouldn't have been there. I've seen better places for less than $6000. I wouldn't call this place a "community

"Spoke with Very Professional Staff, Disappointed by Facility's Conditions"
I spoke with two staff leaders who were all business, very professional. First thing was money talk, followed by a walk through. The 23 guest unit felt more like a hospital or nursing home, not very homey. There was no real outdoor space for residents to stroll and the dementia care unit for assisted living felt very limited. The end of the corridor actually had a urine odor…no joke. There was also a used, partially inside-out latex glove in the hallway…like one used for cleaning or medical purposes. It was just left there…totally unacceptable. I've seen much better facilities in the under $6000 price range. I wouldn't really call this place a 'community'.

"Limited activities, unsecured outdoor spaces in smaller assisted living."
This place is smaller and the meals have assigned seating. I didn't see many activities going on, though. The outdoor areas aren't fenced in, which might be a concern.

"Great care and quick recovery at Plaza Assisted Living"
I live nearby in Montvale, and my mom needed rehab after her hip replacement. A friend recommended Plaza, saying great things about the PT staff and the food. So, we decided to send my mom there. She got there on a Saturday, and we were a bit unsure about a weekend move. But she was seen by PT within 24 hours and started her workouts the next day. Although she wasn't feeling great at first because of her hip and COPD, she was ready to come home in just 17 days and was even babysitting again soon after. It wasn't perfect, but it was really close. Thanks to James and his team for a job well done!

"Plaza: Excellent Rehab with Top Therapy and Food"
I live in Montvale, and my mom needed rehab after her hip replacement. A friend who had been to Plaza and another local facility highly recommended it. She praised the physical therapy staff and the food, so we decided to send my mom there. She arrived on a Saturday, and we were a bit worried about moving her on the weekend. However, she saw a physical therapist within 24 hours and started her workouts the next day. Despite her hip pain and COPD making her feel unwell at first, she was ready to come home in just 17 days and even started babysitting again soon after. It wasn’t perfect, but it was really close. Thanks to James and his team for a great job!
