"Staff Caring but Short-Handed, Food Needs Improvement, Activities Lacking"
This place is okay. The workers are nice, but there aren't enough of them. The food needs to be better and more diverse. They also need to hire a new activities director because the old one retired.

"Friendly staff, lacking communication, recommend with family support."
The workers are nice, but they need to talk better. We'd suggest it to others, but only if they can get extra help from family.

"A Cozy Home with Great Food and Activities"
Brookdale Emerson, located in Emerson, NJ, is a lovely community with beautiful grounds and a cozy atmosphere. After exploring several Assisted Livings over 3 months, I found my perfect home here. The food is delicious, thanks to the phenomenal chef, and the activities are great. It's essential for me to have a community that meets my physical needs while keeping me entertained.

"Assisted Living Facility Provides Clean Environment, Attentive Care"
So far, everything has been good. Our loved one's room and the facility are always clean. The staff is nice and pays attention. They update me on her health. The meals are good, and my mom likes them. They keep her busy with activities. The cost matches the care level, which is what I expected.

"Mixed Experience at Brookdale Emerson Assisted Living Facility"
My family member stays at Brookdale Emerson. They need better communication. Sometimes when family calls, they don't call back quickly. We have to call them multiple times to get a response. Also, on my family member's first day, there was no official introduction or welcome. It would've been nicer if someone greeted us warmly and showed us around. We had to find someone to take my family member to her room and ask for the key. Despite these issues, the cost is reasonable compared to other places. I would still suggest it to others.

"Affordable and Supportive Assisted Living with Caring Staff"
We picked Brookdale Emerson mainly because of the price and availability. We needed a place quickly and didn't have much money. They helped us promptly. The staff is fantastic; they take excellent care of my mother-in-law. They are friendly every time we visit and keep us updated regularly. They also call us whenever there's any issue like a fall or accident.

"Challenging Pandemic Experience"
The room is nice, and the staff promptly return calls. The pandemic makes it challenging to fully assess the community. We’ve had window visits and now outdoor visits for families. However, managing medications is costly and stressful.

"Poor Care at Assisted Living Home Leads to Tragedy"
Our time at this assisted living home was terrible. We felt like our family member was ignored. She didn't stay there long, but during her last weekend, she lay in her own filth from Friday night to Saturday afternoon. Only then did they send her to the hospital because she was ill. Unfortunately, she passed away a few weeks later. We didn't like the medical treatment she got. Despite this, the place was mostly clean. The reason we picked this home was the nice view when we visited. The organized activities seemed fun. The room our family member stayed in was great, we didn't have any issues with it.

"Understaffing and Other Issues at Local Assisted Living Facility"
On recent evening and weekend visits to the assisted living facility, I've noticed issues. The caregivers seem understaffed and overworked, and there's a language barrier. Many residents need heavy assistance, yet there's only one nurse on duty for everyone. The wellness manager is never around, always in meetings, and leaves early. The same goes for the rest of the office team, who are also never there on weekends. Housekeeping is just two people, so rooms aren't cleaned daily, especially in the evenings. The receptionist leaves early, too. The front door is locked, but smokers have the code so they let in visitors. This is a safety and health risk because of secondhand smoke near the entrance. There's just one person handling maintenance and activities. The kitchen seems the only well-staffed area and the food looks good. Despite the promises of the admission coordinator, the facility isn't up to standard. I recommend looking elsewhere. A new assisted living place is being built nearby and will be ready next spring.

"Fantastic Community!"
I really liked this community. They had lots of great amenities for all the residents, and everyone seemed very happy. The positive atmosphere made me wish my mother could be here. It’s a smaller facility, but it’s kept very clean in all areas. I noticed the fantastic activity list they posted to keep everyone busy throughout the week.

"Tour Leaves Much to Be Desired, Not Right For Mom"
My tour of this place didn't really rock my boat. The only cool part was that folks living here get their own private bathrooms. Aside from that, nothing else stood out. When they showed me the memory care section, it had a funky smell that I didn't like. I felt that wasn't the right fit for my mom and what she needs.

"Attractive, Cozy, and Clean, but Needs More Activities"
I see that the staff are doing their best to make my mom feel welcome and take care of her needs. I think they don't have enough activities in the Memory Care area; it looks a bit limited. The wing is absolutely clean, and the staff make sure her home is spotless. The lively and modern community made me appreciate how nice and cozy it is. I liked the size of her room. They had the best price in the area. She is doing as well as can be expected.

"Fantastic community for my loved one!"
I am really happy with this community and everything they provide for my loved one. They serve three meals a day, and the food looks healthy with plenty of choices. The place is very well kept, and the housekeeping team does a great job keeping my dad's room clean and tidy. They also have a fun activity program to keep the residents busy during the week. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for retirement options!

"Clean and friendly assisted living, but improve communication with families."
Our time at Brookdale has been pretty good. The place looks nice and stays clean. The people who work here are really nice, and the caregivers are friendly too. My only real problem is that they could do better with keeping in touch with families.

"Caring Staff, Facility Needs Improvement"
The people who take care of my mom in the Memory Care Unit are really nice and friendly. They always try hard to make her feel good and comfortable. We believe they will keep her safe. The building is kind of old, but they've fixed it up some to make it look better. They clean and fix up all the rooms before someone moves in. Even though they try hard to help us, the way they handle things like paperwork isn't very good. That's why I can't give them a better rating.

"Mom Likes it at Brookdale, Cleaning and Billing Need Work"
My mom likes living at Brookdale Emerson. The staff is friendly and she's made a lot of friends there. She's gotten used to it quickly, and she enjoys joining in the activities. They also take her to her health checks twice a week on a free bus, which is pretty cool. But, I'm not so happy with how they clean the apartments. I feel like they just change the sheets and leave. Also, they've lost some of my mom's sheets a few times. The food could be better there too, but they say they're working on it. Things do get done, but you kind of have to bug them about it. Something else is the billing - it's often wrong. Still, the most important thing is that my mom is happy there.

"Costly Assisted Living Facility Lacks Basic Dining Necessities"
They really need to do better about providing silverware to residents. There was an incident with folks struggling to swallow their chicken recently due to the lack of utensils, and they were given styro-foam cups for drinks. Considering the high prices they charge for services here, the food is not at all impressive. In fact, every resident seems unsatisfied with the meals served. The fact that they aren't even given basic eating tools like forks and knives is honestly awful.

"Mixed Bag at Emeritus: Great Staff, But Services Fall Short"
Our time with Emeritus at Emerson has been a mixed bag. The workers there are super nice and take good care of the folks living there. They keep everything tidy and have a lot of fun activities and events for families. But some things weren't as good as we thought they'd be. For instance, their ride service only runs on Mondays and Fridays, which doesn't suit my family member's appointment schedule. Also, the food isn't that great which let us down.

"Great support and ease with Emeritus facility process"
John Sorrentino has been great with Frank Sinapoli's family. Even though Frank isn't at the facility yet, we took advantage of the promotion, and John made all the paperwork really easy. Frank is now at Care One in Westwood, getting rehab before coming to Emeritus. Big thanks to John and this amazing facility!
