"Institutional Feel and Unfriendly Staff at CareOne Somerset Valley"
When we were looking for a place for my mom to live where she could get some extra help, we visited CareOne at Somerset Valley. It felt like a big institution, not cozy and homey. And the people working there didn't seem very friendly either.

"Assisted Living Center Offers Activities Despite Challenges"
They try their hardest given staffing shortages and the pandemic. Residents can join in activities like folding clothes and arts and crafts if they want to.

"Lovely facility but needed more transparency."
The social worker wasn't as good as at our previous facility. We had to ask for information instead of it being offered. We had weekly meetings, and I wanted my husband to have intensive PT and start walking. They said it wasn't realistic but should've told me that earlier. The facility itself was lovely though.

"Doctors need improvement, but staff is excellent."
The staff here is really nice and they're doing their best. But the doctors who come here don't seem to help much. They don't do a lot and they don't listen when we talk to them. The people in charge should pick better doctors. But the regular staff, like the nurses and the CNAs, they're really great.

My dad's doing fine since he moved here. I feel good about it. The people who work here are nice, and they take good care of him. It's a safe place, and I think it's a good choice for others too.

"Warm and Caring Community for Mom"
CareOne at Somerset is a nice place. It feels like home for my mom. Most of the staff are friendly, but a few are not. When we call to check on Mom, I wish they could give us more details about how she’s doing. Some of our family doesn’t live nearby. I know they’re busy, so maybe that’s asking too much. The food is good. Mom can’t eat by herself, but the staff are happy to help feed her, and she eats well. We’re very happy with all the activities they have for her. They keep her busy and happy. Mom especially loves singing and social hour before dinner. They even have ice cream parties, which she loves. The best thing about this place is even though it’s locked, all the residents help each other. I see them pushing each other in wheelchairs to get around. They seem like a warm and caring family. I would definitely recommend CareOne at Somerset Valley.

"Neglectful Care: My Dad's ER Visit and Ongoing Falls"
My dad had a terrible time at this facility. They checked him out when he was in rehab, told us they could handle his needs. But only 3 hours after he moved in, he fell and landed in the ER. They didn't have an alert system in his room, and he had even more falls. I ended up shelling out more cash for a 12-hour a day caregiver. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone.

"CareOne Fails to Properly Care for Alzheimer's Patients"
I wish I could give CareOne no stars! My dad has serious Alzheimer's. After a hospital visit, a CareOne nurse checked out my dad at rehab to see if they could handle his needs. They had access to all the rehab nurse's notes and told me they could take care of his needs. But once my dad was there, he fell three times in five days because no one was watching him. I had to hire someone for 12 hours a day to make sure he didn't fall, which added another $1,500 to the already high cost. They couldn't handle his medicine right, causing him to be either upset or drugged up too much until they sent him back to the hospital. The hospital told me my dad was delirious because of the medicine mishap. They also thought CareOne couldn't handle my dad because of the three falls and the medicine issues. I moved my dad to a place that focuses on Alzheimer's patients and in under a week, he's doing really well. He's alert, eating right, and talking with visitors and other patients. I wouldn't say CareOne is a good place for anyone with a family member who has Alzheimer's or dementia. They don't have enough staff and don't seem to care about the people living there.

"Avoid CareOne: Unsuitable for Alzheimer's/Dementia Patients"
I wish I could give CareOne no stars! My dad has severe Alzheimer's disease, and after a hospital stay, CareOne's nursing director visited him at a rehab facility to see if they could cater to his needs. They were allowed to fully review his rehab care notes and they gave me their word that they could take care of him. However, after his shift to their facility, my dad fell thrice within the first five days because they didn't watch him closely enough. Their negligence forced me to hire a companion to protect him from falling, adding another $1,500 per week to their already pricey bills - a cost I was ready to bear to help my dad settle in. CareOne couldn't even handle his medications efficiently, leaving him either excessively irritable or over-medicated and unresponsive most days until he had to go back to the hospital. At the hospital, they diagnosed him with delirium caused by medication overdose and made it clear that CareOne was unequipped to look after my dad, pointing to their medication errors and the repeated falls. The hospital's assessment compelled me to shift my dad to a facility specializing in Alzheimer's patients, and within just a week, I've seen him improve significantly. He's alert, enjoying his food and engaging in conversations with others. As an Alzheimer's patient himself, my dad unfortunately was not catered for properly at CareOne. They're just shorthanded, and to be frank, it seemed they didn't really care about their residents. It's for this reason that I wouldn't recommend CareOne to anyone with a family member suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia.

"Lack of Coordination and Institutional Feel at Assisted Living Facility"
My loved one stayed briefly at this place. The staff were friendly and competent, but they didn't seem to communicate well. They weren't prepared for him to arrive, so he had to stay in the memory care unit instead of assisted living. He thought the food was alright. The place is clean and well looked after, but it feels too much like an institution.

"Clean and Neat with Room for Flavor!"
The staff and everything have been great here. Dad enjoys it and feels happy. He thinks the food is okay, but they could add more flavor. The cleanliness is excellent.

"Short Staffed Assisted Living Community With Service Problems"
This place doesn't have enough workers, and the ones they do have don't seem to know their jobs very well. I had to wait a whole month just to have a room cleaned up. But at least the building itself looks nice, and the rooms are big with lots of windows. Their food's okay too, but it takes a while if you don't choose something off the menu. I don't think I'd tell others to move here.' .

"Highly Recommended Assisted Living with Great Staff and Activities"
This place is super clean and new, which is great. My mother-in-law is adjusting well. The staff is awesome and always ready to help. They organize fun stuff, and my mother-in-law is trying them out. The person in charge of activities is fantastic. It's easy to get around since everything is on one floor. Whenever I've had concerns, they've been quick to respond. Overall, it's been really good. I'd suggest it to others.

"Great respite care program made our search easier"
My dad has dementia and was diagnosed three years ago. My husband and I have been taking care of him at home, but it’s becoming too hard for us. We’re thinking he’ll need to move to a new place later this year. I started looking at communities early to be prepared. Last week, I found Care One at Somerset Valley. I told the counselor about my concerns and why I was starting to look now. He suggested that we could try out their place for a week at a set rate that covers everything. I mentioned I had to go away for Passover and couldn’t bring Dad with me. He said, “That’s perfect,” and arranged a trial week for us. I’m glad I found out about this program. It would have really helped us earlier.

"Great experience with Care One’s respite program; wish we'd known earlier."
My dad has dementia and was diagnosed three years ago. My husband and I have been taking care of him at home, but it's been really challenging. We want to keep caring for him as long as we can, but we know that soon we might need more help. We’re planning for him to move to a new place by late 2016. I started looking into assisted living options now, so we’re prepared when the time comes. Last week, I found Care One at Somerset Valley. I shared my concerns with a counselor there, and he suggested we could try out their services for a week to see if it works for us. Since I had to go away for Passover and couldn’t bring my dad along, he thought it was a great idea for us to use their respite program. I booked the respite service, and I didn’t realize such an option was available. I wish I had known about this earlier—it would have made things a lot easier for us.

"Amazing Care for Dad!"
My husband and I were looking at assisted living places in Bridgewater. We checked out 4 of them. They all seemed pretty similar until we visited Care One. First of all, it was new and beautiful. More importantly, the memory care community had everything we needed for my dad, who has dementia. The place feels like a fancy hotel with staff and nurses there all night. This is super important because my dad wanders at night. We're meeting with the rest of the family this week to talk about it. I'm 100% sure we'll move dad in by April.

"Avoid This Facility for Loved Ones' Care"
Don't ever consider admitting a loved one to this facility. It's the worst decision I've ever made, no amount of money would tempt me to do it again. My stepmother Julie was a patient here until her death on November 19, 2015. She moved here after suffering a severe stroke and was unable to speak because of a tracheostomy and scar tissue on her vocal cords. She was doing well before she passed away; she attended a doctor's appointment and seemed to be enjoying the day before. But early the next morning, we got the call that she had gone into cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, she couldn't recover from it. This facility is severely understaffed for the number of patients they handle. I don't believe they monitor their residents nearly enough. Avoid this place at all costs for the sake of your family. It's a disgrace that I'm forced to rate this place with even half a star.

"Nice place, overall"
Overall, I think CareOne Assisted Living does a good job. We’re happy with our choice to live here. However, the quality has gone down a bit since our loved one moved in. For a few months, everything was great, but recently there have been staff changes, and some services and cleanliness have suffered. I hope things improve soon.
