"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short on Care and Nutrition"
The food isn't good for older folks. They gave our mom oatmeal for dinner, which isn't healthy. They tried giving her protein shakes, but she didn't drink them. Our mom sat in her wheelchair all day and got a bedsore. The nursing staff said they were taking care of it, but it got worse and she had to go to the hospital. Sadly, she got an infection and passed away. We wouldn't recommend Tyler's Mill.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Experience"
My family member heard workers saying mean things about her, which made me upset. The fun activities they say they have barely happen. It’s sad because there's not much for the people there to do during the day. The floors are often dirty and it seems like they don't clean much. When I visit my mom, I end up cleaning her room's floor myself most times.

"Friendly, Clean Assisted Living at Tylers Mills"
We went to Tylers Mills to check if it could be a good home for Dad. It felt nice, lively, and the staff cared. The place was clean, and the people were friendly.

"Cozy Assisted Living, Dietary Improvements Needed, Overall Recommendable"
"It's a nice place that feels like home, not a hospital. Rooms and grounds are well taken care of, and it's a good deal for the money. However, I think the food in the Memory Care unit needs improvement. Dementia patients might find it easier to eat chicken nuggets instead of wings, more cooked green veggies are necessary, and tuna with crackers could be a safer option than hot dogs. Despite this, we'd still recommend it since our mom is happy there."

"Disappointing Experience in Assisted Living Facility"
Personally, I wouldn't spill all the beans, that's just not my style. But when my dad stayed there for just over a month before passing away and we got billed for the whole year, that didn't sit right with me! I think there should be exceptions to the rule, you know? It's not exactly what I'd call good business manners! I'd suggest it only to folks who truly need assisted living, no more than that. My dad was in memory care, but he didn't get the care he really needed, which is something I'll always regret. Still, I'd give a big thumbs up!

"Poor communication, hopeful for improvements under new management."
When my family member moved in last Fall, we felt unwelcome. We were told one thing when signing up, but experienced the opposite during the move-in. We never got a welcome packet. Communication with Fox Trail was a big problem. The staff didn't give friendly responses and emails were curt. The messages sent out weren't clear either. We felt like we were bothering them when we asked questions. Recently, we learned the old director retired. We wrote a long letter to the regional director explaining our concerns. The regional director has been great. We hope things will improve with her. They hired a nurse who seems promising. She's big on training and education. She's part-time for now but will be full-time soon. We hope things keep getting better. Food is hit or miss according to my loved one. The facility is charming and clean. But communication is still a big issue. We couldn't reach anyone on weeknights or weekends. Once, a resident had to answer the phone. The old director didn't seem worried, though she made some changes. We trust the regional director and new nurse to fix things.

"Good Experience Despite COVID Restrictions"
Our loved one stayed here for two months. We didn't get much feedback on the meals, and the activities were shut down because of COVID restrictions. However, we liked how the residents were kept apart, and we would recommend Fox Trail community to others.

"Drastic Fee Hikes, Short Staff, No Activities: Distressing Changes"
My dad's been living here for about a year, and some of the changes they've made are super upsetting. The person who used to plan activities left months ago, and all they do now is play bingo. They used to have music shows with guitar players and organists, but they haven't done that in months. They're supposed to have movie nights, but they never happen. They haven't had outings to the dollar store or lunches out in ages. Dad's okay with the food, but some folks here can't eat it because it's really bad. The absolute worst part is, dad just turned 90, and they upped his charges to about $8900 a month. When we first came here, they said they wouldn't bill him for wheeling him to his meals. But with the new nurse in charge, they're billing him hundreds every month just to wheel him a measly 20 feet to the dining room. The staff's nice but there's not enough of them. We've been considering a move for a while, but since they've now doubled his monthly costs, we really don't have a choice. What's really gut-wrenching is when his savings run dry, they might not even have a bed for him under Medicaid. It's a sad, upsetting situation for our family.

"Inadequate Memory Care at Small Assisted Living Facility"
This place is okay for those needing standard assisted living, but I think it falls short for memory care. It's not a big facility with only two buildings and 48 rooms altogether. There's no special, secure spot for folks with dementia who need extra care and structure. I worry they wouldn't get the right attentiveness here because they could easily wander around with the rest of the residents. Plus, there's no designated check-in area. There's just a book on a table by the door for people to sign in and out, and families get in by using a keypad beside the door. This sets off alarms for me considering the safety of family members with Alzheimer's. However, I will say that the facility's staff is warm and approachable. Still, I didn't notice any activities for residents except for a group praying the rosary.

"Check out Brookdale now you won’t regret it!"
My mom has been at Brookdale formerly Sterling House since February, just starting her third year. My sister and I are very pleased with the place. They recently got a new manager who is fantastic! There were some problems before, but she has fixed them, so I highly recommend checking them out now! The nurses and staff are great. They have daily bingo, crafts, casino trips, lunch outings, and plenty of activities to keep everyone engaged. They even bring in entertainers for karaoke and holiday parties. My mom had a great time, even though bingo wasn’t her thing. She played every day. She passed away on Friday the 13th, but the staff was incredibly kind and supportive throughout everything. We will always be grateful for their kindness and care. It’s a small, cozy place, and we’re so glad we found it. It was also the most affordable option! Good luck to you!

"I'm really impressed with them!"
I find them to be pretty good. My issues are more with New Jersey's rules than with the facility. For example, if they call the doctor and get an order or suggestion, they can't act on it until they get a fax. If it's at night and the doctor can't send a fax, they have to wait. They do a great job with cleaning and cooking. The chef even talks to the residents and asks what they want to eat. He’s even started playing bingo! They plan a monthly outing, and every problem I've had has been fixed. I'm really impressed with them.

"Great place with a sense of community"
Sterling House is doing a great job! The facility is very nice looking, clean, and well kept. The staff are super friendly and always respond to questions and explain billing. They're also reliable with medication distribution, which is a big relief. The best thing is the sense of community. It's a smaller place, so everyone knows each other. They have activities all the time and outings a few times a month. Since my loved one moved here, he's been much more active and social than at home!

"A Promising Home for Mom"
My mom hasn't moved in yet, but that's happening next Tuesday, April 8. I feel pretty hopeful because it's a smaller place, not too confusing for someone who's already a bit lost. The staff has been really helpful, and I think they'll keep it up. Compared to other big, overwhelming facilities, this one feels cozy. My review is based on lots of visits and what I've observed.

"A Decent Assisted Living Community"
We visited this place when we were exploring options for Mom. Although I didn't spend much time here, the tour seemed satisfactory. It was one of the communities we considered, but we ultimately chose another one based on location and a positive staff experience.

"A small, caring place for my Mom"
Sterling House was recommended by A Place for Mom, and it has been a blessing for her. They work hard to help my Mom and the other residents with their special needs. It’s much cleaner than the last place my Mom stayed, which always had dirt and dust in her room. This place is tidy, and the staff really try their best. I feel at ease knowing my Mom is safe because the staff at Sterling House take good care of her. Since it’s a small place, they can keep a close watch on the residents. In other places, residents seem to get overlooked. I’m glad I chose this place.

"Great Experience for My Mom at Sterling House"
The experience for my Mom at Sterling House has been great. The staff in charge are quick and helpful, always ready to answer questions. All the workers are nice, friendly, and seem to enjoy their jobs. The building and grounds are clean and welcoming. Mom says the food is really good. Everyone at Sterling House seems to truly care about the residents. There are many activities available, and Mom especially loves the music and dancing events. She likes that she can join in on activities but isn’t pressured to do so. I would recommend Sterling House.
