"Deeply Unsettling Experience at Juniper Village in Williamstown"
If you're considering Juniper Village at Williamstown for a loved one, you should prepare to be there every day to check on them. The quality of care was very disappointing unless I asked for specific things. The nurse assigned to my dad was not very professional. The situation greatly saddened me because my father's health declined quickly during his stay there. Only six weeks later, he sadly passed away. The doctors had prescribed him hydrochlorothiazide the previous November, but the staff refused to give it to him here. Despite paying for laundry service, his clothes were not regularly cleaned. I highly doubt he was getting bathed. Two soap bars I placed in his bathroom were left unused, and the same thing happened with the new towels and washcloths I bought for him. The nurses never shaved him. After a month-long wait, the physician's assistant finally prescribed him eye drops. But a week before his death, they prescribed a very potent mood-influencing medication, and wouldn't lower the dosage as I had requested. A nurse claimed my dad had been 'pampered' and was quite lively, but the last two weeks he struggled to walk and needed a walker to move around. Even the physical therapist shared concerns about his worsening weakness and physical decline. It's disturbing how people in these establishments can lack empathy.

"Great care but needs more activities"
I thought about giving a 5-star rating. This is the best place Dad has lived. They know him, are kind to him, and take good care of him. I just wish they had more activities and trips. He gets bored and unhappy sometimes because of that.

"Visitors Impressed by Juniper Village's Atmosphere and Staff Care"
During our tour at Juniper Village, many families praised the facility, which influenced our decision. While the food lacks variety and quality, the staff's friendliness and genuine care for residents make it a recommendable choice for others.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Facility Conditions and Poor Management"
On one occasion, we found my mom's room in total chaos. Her bandages showed no signs of being changed. The care staff were acceptable, but the manager was difficult. The hefty fee we were spending for her spot in this facility did not feel justified. For Thanksgiving, all she got was a salad. The overall food quality was poor. Cleaning wasn't up to the mark and my mom was even found in clothes that didn't belong to her. They advertise activities for the residents, however, in reality, the only thing offered was weekly song performances by a visiting musician. The rooms had a generous amount of space, and we appreciated their arrangement. However, there was an evident staffing shortage in the dementia ward, and as a result, all the residents were herded into one room so they could monitor everyone simultaneously.

"New Director's Disrespect Leads to Costly Move"
Eight years ago, my mom started living in an assisted living facility with a live-in helper that I paid extra for. The cost was around $10,000 a month, including the helper's fee. After five years, as her health worsened, I moved her to a memory care unit. I was grateful for the genuine care from the nurses. I had even posted before about how committed the staff was, and that mostly remains true. Two of the three directors respected my position as the financial and medical power of attorney and followed my mom's advance directive without any objections. They were always responsive, conscientious, and respectful. However, the latest director, who started in 2019, dismissed my questions, mocked me, and told me I had no say in my mom's healthcare. His disrespectful and arrogant behavior made me nervous, thinking he planned to challenge my mom's rights and mine as her advocate. Regrettably, I decided to move her to another facility that offers the same services but costs $1,500 less per month. So, it seems this new director unintentionally did us a favor because I would never have moved her if he hadn't made it clear he wasn't going to be sensitive and empathetic to the needs of families and the challenging and stressful situation of caring for a loved one. I wrote to Juniper's President/CEO about my concerns. It was the first time in eight years I felt I needed to do so. There was no response, which suggested that families and their loved ones don't matter to those in charge. It seems they are only motivated by money. It's a sad observation after all this time. The President/CEO and supervisors need to reconsider what they're in business for, the care of seniors and family members. Unfortunately, this is NOT a benefit to Juniper Village.
