"Caring Community with Good Food and Activities"
If you called, the staff answered questions and were friendly to families. The food was good, and they offered many activities for residents. The community was clean.

"A Wonderful Assisted Living Experience"
My dad gets great care here. His room is big and super clean. The food is homemade, with large portions—soups, bacon, eggs for breakfast, pancakes, turkey, stuffing. The rooms have beautiful floors, some even have stained glass. He's been here almost 2 years, and they promptly address any issues. They're exceptional with his heart, diabetes, and neuropathy. Group activities include games, bingo, cards, and Karaoke. It's a really nice place.

"Unexpected Extra Costs at Merriam Manner"
The boss of Merriam Manner didn't assess my dad. I didn't know that wasn't right for such a place. After he settled in, she asked me for an additional $600 every month. He's staying there with the money we agreed on.

"Great place to live"
My dad has been receiving the best care and attention he can get, all of his daily living is assisted, and further more, the food is wonderful. Compared to other facilities, the food is great, and they have an extensive menu. The food that they serve there is varied, for example, unsweet iced tea, mashed potatoes, pork loin, beef stew, mac and cheese, green beans, home made soups, and pudding to name a few things they offer. The room is large, wood floors, high ceilings, exceptionally clean, some rooms have marble fireplace fronts, stained glass. The bathrooms are very clean, and the dining area is similar to being home. Dad loves it here, and it's home to a kind and helpful staff.

"Older Building, Lacking Friendliness, Not Diabetic-Friendly"
I couldn't eat the food because it wasn't meant for people with diabetes. I struggled a lot to make friends. I hardly saw the staff and didn't get a chance to really bond with them. The building is 150 to 200 years old and felt unsafe, like a fire could easily start. They only offered coffee in the morning. I don't think I can recommend this place to others.

"Assisted Living Provides Basic Care; Mom's Transition Okay"
My mom is doing okay with the transition. The location is good for her to go to nearby stores and use public transportation. The services are somewhat limited, but they meet her basic needs. She feels safe and the community is clean. However, she's not too happy with the meals and wants more fresh fruits and vegetables.

"Caring Environment but Better Suited for Self-Sufficient Residents"
My mom lives at this place right now. It's mostly good. The people here care about the residents, but they do better with folks who can take care of themselves pretty well.

"Caring Place for Mom, but Best for Self-Sufficient Seniors"
My mom stays here now. It's a pretty good place. They're nice and caring, but they're better with folks who can mostly look after themselves.

"Responsive Director, but Could Improve Food Variety"
My mom has been living here for a month, and things have been pretty good so far. Fay, the director, always gets back to emails and calls quickly. The only thing my mom complains about is that they could have more food options available.

"Old, Dark Building with Few Private Baths and Unclear Pricing"
The place looked clean, but it's old and mostly dark. They showed us a couple of rooms that matched what we needed. But most rooms don't have private bathrooms. When I asked about the price, the woman took a minute, then wrote a number on a piece of paper. There was nothing official. I wouldn't feel good about leaving a loved one there.

"Dark Old Facility, Unprofessional Pricing, Sparse Private Baths"
The building seemed clean but it's old and poorly lit. They showed me a few rooms that might work for us, but they mostly don't have private bathrooms. When I asked how much it would cost, the lady paused then wrote down a number on a scrap of paper. There wasn't any official price list. I wouldn't be at ease leaving someone I care about there.

"removed"
Awful Spot, My sibling stayed at the Merriam House for a couple of years, and I had multiple problems there. To begin with, the house keeper routinely gave out the residents' medication. However, she did not check if they really took their meds. I often discovered unused medication in my brother's room. I raised this matter to the director, but she didn't do anything about it. As for security, it was almost non-existent. Regarding meals, they were laughable. They served the main hot meal too early at 11:30 A.M. The dishes usually contained processed foods or pasta. Dinner time was at 4:30 P.M. and it typically was a plain sandwich and a bowl of soup. I complained to the director about poor meal quality, but nothing changed. Sanitation was another weak point. Most of my visits, I found my brother's room unclean, and I ended up cleaning it myself. Making this known to the director had no impact. Also, my brother got rushed to the hospital late one Sunday night. The home left a voicemail about this only the next morning, which I found out late after work. By then, my brother was already on life support. The director and I argued bitterly over this. She never took any responsibility for any issues or deficiencies of her staff. Besides, the building was too cold in winter. Various windows didn't shut completely and the residents had to wear their coats while in the common areas. I wouldn't advise anyone to send their loved ones to this place! [[Terrible Experience with Neglect and Unresponsiveness at Merriam House]]

"Awful Living Situation: Poor Care, Bad Food, don't go here!"
This place is just awful! My buddy moved here without really checking out other options because it's nearby and seemed like it could take care of what they needed. But every other person living here was way too out of it to really talk and by "treatment" they just mean simple workouts! The chow here was so bad. No flavor and all from cans. And it stank too. I seriously would tell no one to stay here.

"Absolutely Terrible! Can't Recommend"
This place is absolutely horrendous! My buddy moved in here because it was nearby and seemed to provide the necessary care on paper. Turns out, all of the other people living there were too out of it to have even a simple chat, and their so-called "therapy" was nothing more than basic workouts! The food was just awful, tasteless, and clearly out of a can. Plus the place stank. I seriously wouldn't suggest this place to anyone.

"Dissatisfied With Father’s Former Assisted Living Home"
My Father was staying at this assisted living home and honestly, it wasn't great. There always seemed like there wasn't enough people working there and trying to talk with them was super hard. The place wasn't kept clean as I thought it should be and there wasn't enough fun stuff to do. We decided to move him somewhere else and he's happier now.

"Impressive Staff, Language Barrier, Needs More Activities"
The people are nice, but not many speak English well. Sometimes it's hard to understand. This place has helped my mom more in a few weeks than the last one. They had her walking in the first week, and now she doesn't need her wheelchair at all. I didn't think she'd walk again. I'm very, very impressed. The building is old and a bit sad. I wish there were more things for her to do; she mostly stays in her room. Overall, I'm very impressed with the staff's work so far.

"Assisted Living Review: Friendly Staff, Safety Concerns, Dementia Challenges"
It was okay, but not great. Mom wandered a lot. The staff was nice and place was clean. Mom's dementia made it hard for them to keep her safe. They tried, but couldn't handle her needs.

"Nice facility, lacks security."
It wasn't very good. My mom wandered everywhere and even pulled the fire alarm. The place didn't feel safe for her. The staff were nice and it seemed clean. But she kept wandering, and they were always chasing after her. Upstairs, there was a door she could have gone out and gotten hurt, but thankfully she didn't. She has dementia, and they thought they could take care of her, but she just kept causing problems. It's a nice place, but they couldn't handle her issues. If my mom didn't have memory problems, it might have been great for her.

"Great staff, medical care, and amenities. Affordable semi-private rooms."
This place caught my eye because they have a doctor, nurses, and people who help with medicine. The rooms are semi-private and seem cozy. Plus, they start at a reasonable price, which is nice. They even assist with showers, and you can get a haircut every three weeks. Overall, seems like a good deal.
