The Bristal at Woodcliff Lake

"Overall positive experience."
We picked this place mainly because it's affordable (10% Medicaid beds). Mom was at another facility for 3 years, but she wanted a change. The rooms are a good size, and the bathrooms are spacious. The food is decent, though it has an institutional feel. Overall, I'd recommend this community. Mom's been in memory care here for almost a year, and I'm satisfied with the services.

"Grateful for The Bristal's Support During Mom's Move and Transition"
I think I can speak for my brothers too when I say we never want to go through moving our mom again. A power outage at her house made us realize it was time to change her living situation for her safety and happiness. Despite having a full-time caregiver at home, she felt isolated and her safety was a concern. We knew we needed to make a move. After making the tough decision, the move to The Bristal in Woodcliff Lake happened just four days later. We’re really thankful for the amazing support from the staff there during this tough and emotional time. Our mom is about to turn 92 and is bravely dealing with dementia, which makes her anxious as she values control and independence. Moving from her home of over 50 years was a big step, but she did it with our help and the kindness and support from The Bristal team. She’s still adjusting learning the phone system, getting used to a new morning routine, and finding her way around the beautiful and well-kept facility. But there’s patient support everywhere she goes. People like [Names removed] have been incredible in helping us all, especially Mom, through this transition. Even though she’s only been there a few days, she’s already making friends and feeling more confident. We’re excited for her because The Bristal is not just a safe place; it’s a place where every day brings fun activities and new friendships, while still allowing her some privacy in her own room. She knows the caring staff are always nearby, ready to help with anything she needs. So, while we hope we never have to move her again, we’re now part of the many families who wish they had made the move to The Bristal sooner!

"Assisted Living Lacks Respite; Limited Clientele Selection; Parent's Future Uncertain"
This place doesn't offer respite care, which I need. The salesperson said they pick who they want. They also hinted that without an assessment, my parents might not return home.

"Great staff, clean place, and lots of activities at Bristal"
We checked out several places in Northern NJ for my mom, and Bristal was the best fit. The staff is fantastic and always goes above and beyond to take care of everyone. There are plenty of activities to choose from, so you can join in as much as you like. The place is clean and well-kept!

"Great community with friendly staff, but needed more care options"
I really liked The Bristol at Woodcliff Lake when I visited. The place was very nice, and everyone who worked there was friendly and welcoming. I would love to live here myself. I chose a different place because my mom needed more care, but this one was a great choice.

"Horrific Treatment and Care at The Bristal: A Total Nightmare"
Our time at The Bristal was totally awful right from the beginning. The meals were gross. The workers were mean, and the bosses were even meaner. They told me they were trying to fix stuff, but it only got worse. My mom fell down once while in the living area and was sent to the hospital. Luckily, she didn't break anything. But then she fell again that same day and was sent back to the hospital. Again, thank goodness no bones were broken. You'd think the caretakers would have watched her better after the first fall. They then moved my mom to the reflections memory loss part because they thought she would do better. This new place was super sad. They didn't have many activities, the nurse did nothing. And workers were snappy. Nobody seemed to know anything. My mom fell again, but this time she broke her hip and had to get surgery. When she went back, she fell again and broke her wrist. They then said my mom could only stay if I hired private caretakers all day. This cost me over $10,000! The Bristal's caretakers didn't do anything for my mom since she had private caretakers. They even lost her new hearing aids, her wheelchair's leg rests, and 2 of her necklaces. When I asked if The Bristal could reduce their cost, because we couldn't afford it, they flat- out said no. The only thing they care about is money. I had to move my mom out. Luckily, she's walking again now. This place needs to be closed down. It was a total nightmare.
