"Smooth Move-In and Clean Environment; Mostly Excellent Staff Interaction"
My family member lives at Atria South Setauket. Most of the staff have been great, except for one. The room is always clean, bed neatly made, and bathroom tidy whenever I visit. Laundry gets done weekly. They keep me informed and check in during my visits. Moving in was easy; they let us start bringing things in a week early. I've recommended Atria South Setauket to others.

"Mixed Feelings About Atria South Setauket Assisted Living"
When we checked out Atria South Setauket for our family member's new home, we found it wasn't as inclusive as other places we saw. Plus, I wasn't a fan of the basement apartments.

"Assisted Living Disappointment"
I moved into this place thinking it was nice. They were really nice at first and did everything they could to get me to sign a lease. But then they raised the rent so much that most middle-class retirees can't afford it. They raise it by 20% every year! And if you can't pay, they kick you out without a second thought. They don't care about us at all. All they see is money.

"Mixed Experience at Atria South Setauket Assisted Living Facility"
The staff at Atria South Setauket were really great, I really liked them a lot. When we toured, I saw many residents participating in activities. The dining room looked absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, the rooms were not so good for us because they only had small windows, making them feel dark with little natural light. Also, I didn't like the old hotel carpet in the hallways.

"Incomplete Cost Disclosure and Communication Issues Mar Otherwise Positive Experience"
When we signed up, we were only told about the basic monthly cost, which we thought was all-inclusive. Later, we found out there's an extra charge for the level of care, which could add significantly to the bill. We felt stuck because our loved one needed immediate care after leaving the hospital. The staff who directly interact with residents are great. However, it's hard to reach higher-level executives when you have questions or concerns. My advice to others is to ask lots of questions upfront. I learned this the hard way.

"Struggled with care good for independent residents avoid for assistance."
We had a really hard time at this place. It wasn't really their fault, they just weren't ready to take care of my mom. She got hurt before we brought her there, and even though the staff said they could help her, they couldn't. Just two days after she arrived, we found out my little brother had passed away, making things even tougher. The people who take care of you aren't actually employed by Atria; you have to hire them yourself. And after all the craziness of getting my mom settled, someone called to say they were moving her to a different room! My brother and I were adamant that she stay put, and we had to argue about it. After the funeral, I got my mom out of there as soon as I could. My sister, who came up from Florida, stayed with mom for four nights to help out. It's a nice place if you're independent and can take care of yourself without any help. By the way, we were in the part for people who can live independently I can't say anything about the part for people who need help.

"All-Inclusive Community with Medication Assistance, Worth Considering"
The tour was nice and the place seemed nice too. We found a place that includes everything, which was important for us. My loved one needed help with meds and stuff, so finding a place that didn't make us pay extra for that was really good.

"High Cost, Decent Service, Not My First Choice"
This was the second place I checked out for my loved one. It was pricey. I compared costs and services and ranked all the places I liked. Personally, it's not my first choice. I had to find a compromise for my loved one's best living situation.

"Nice Staff but Lacks Activities: Mom's Assisted Living Review"
My mom's been living at this place for a few months now but it's not her favorite. The food's pretty good and the staff is really nice, but the fun stuff they said would happen isn't happening. She's bored a lot because they always go to the same two stores every week. And that garden club they talked about? It's just a small box of plants. Most times, people are just hanging out 'cause there's nothing else to do. They don't bring a lot of entertainment in, or take the residents out to anything fun. We thought we'd be getting more for our money. I'm starting to look at other places for her.

"Wonderful Community"
Atria South Setauket is a beautiful place. Even though my mom doesn't need help right now, they took great care of her during her stay. The staff was friendly and caring, and they quickly answered any questions I had about my mom's well-being. The community was clean, inviting, and had excellent meals. There were lots of fun activities, like swimming and walking. They even offer transportation for shopping and outings. Atria South Setauket is a wonderful place!

"Hazardous Haven: Ignored Emergency At Atria"
I tripped and yanked the emergency cord in the bathroom but no help arrived. The facility phoned, but I couldn't answer due to a torn hamstring, leaving me stuck on the floor. Despite receiving a message from Atria desk asking if I was okay and my lack of response, still, no one came to help. In the end, I had to phone 911 myself. This is a risky place to reside."

"Pleasant Assisted Living with Some Extra Care Needed"
My mom's stay here was mostly good. The place is nice and the people are friendly. We had to get extra help because she needed more care than they could give. But it's a lovely place. They serve good meals and have lots of activities. I'd tell my family and friends about it.

"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living: Comfort, Concerns, and Costs"
My mom and mother-in-law have been living here for a while. The people who work here are great, and they've been here for a long time. The cleaning is really good too. The food is okay, but it's not amazing, and you can't use the laundry whenever you want. There are lots of things to do, like events and going out to shop. They can take you to the doctor if it's within 5 miles. The rent includes electricity and heating. But, the rent goes up by a lot every year, around 5-7%, which is a big deal when you're already paying over $4000 a month. Some people say there's a big difference in how much everyone pays. Eventually, these higher costs might mean my mom and mother-in-law have to find somewhere else to live.

"Mom's Happy Home at Atria"
My mom is doing great at Atria. She likes the activities and food. The staff is nice and helpful. After we lost my dad, she needed a new place with people around. She was unsure at first, but I convinced her to try it. Now she loves it, and I'm happy she's there. The only problem is the smell of the carpets in the hallways and stairs. I wish they had washable floors instead.

My dad, Ed, really loves this place! He says it feels like a five-star hotel. The meals in the dining room are wonderful, and he enjoys friendly company every day. There’s always something fun happening. They have many common rooms, and even a Happy Hour! You can't beat that. His apartment is spacious and has everything he needs. The housekeeping service is great too; his place always looks tidy.

"Great Care and Happy Residents!"
My father is doing great here at Atria. His health has improved, and he seems really happy. Atria is a clean and nice-looking community. There are some smells here and there, but that’s expected. The staff is amazing, and I believe they take very good care of my father and his needs. The most important thing for me was that he gets his medications at the right times. Their wellness team does an incredible job with that. He hasn't complained about the food, so I think he likes it. It's a lovely place, but the only downside is that the building is old, so they only offer basic cable. I'm trying to help my father with Netflix and his DVR player. It's a caring place with good people, and I would definitely recommend this community.

"Expensive Room Costs Overshadow Otherwise Great Assisted Living Facility"
My mom's been here for about 4 years. It's a nice place, with great people. Everyone's friendly and helpful. But, there's a problem with the cost. They've raised the room price by 30 percent in the last 3 years. That's over $1000 more per month! It's just too expensive now. Honestly, the room, care, and extras aren't worth $1000 more than they were 3 years ago. We're checking out other places now.

"Horrible Tour Experience: Almost Left Halfway Through"
We checked out this place on a tour, and boy, did it disappoint on several fronts. The place was not clean, and it had a bad smell. The person in charge didn't even have a clue about the residents, let alone the specific needs of those with memory problems. The director even confused me for someone seeking help in the facility! My mom was upset by some of the stuff that was said. The place was dead quiet - no activities or anything. We were so put off that we felt like leaving halfway through.

"New Resident"
My dad recently moved into the independent living section at Atria South Setauket. Megan, Jennifer, and all the staff we met during our selection process were super friendly and understanding about seniors who want to maintain their independence. The staff has been there for a long time, which says a lot about the community as a whole. The food is really good and there's plenty of it. The only 'negative' thing my dad mentioned was that he wished there weren't so many old people. He's young at heart, curious, and always busy. Thanks for all your help, Atria South Setauket!

"A great short stay!"
The price can be worrying for people with a fixed income. She had no complaints at all. It was a short stay, just a couple of weeks, and I didn't even know they offered that. The food was good, and there were activities happening. The place was clean, and the staff were very friendly. I can’t think of anything they could have done better.

"Dad Treated Poorly, Staff Shows Unfair Bias"
My dad was treated unfairly at this place. It felt like he was a kid in trouble at school all the time – they kept blaming him for stuff and I think they were making up reasons to get him out of there. Eventually, they kicked him out saying he needed a different kind of care. Now, he's at Sunrise and things are going great! The head of this place even admitted that the staff were scared of my dad and only wanted to deal with nice, harmless old ladies, which isn't fair. A retirement place is for all types of elderly folks, so if that includes men, they should be ready to handle men!
