"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"

I was excited because I needed assisted living due to my health. I'd heard amazing things about this place for years, being from NYC. Sadly, my experience was mixed and disappointing. It only lasted 5 months, not a lifetime! Some staff were helpful, kind, and supportive, while others were nasty, lazy, and even vindictive. Several staff members left during my stay due to significant turmoil, making the service even more inconsistent (like missed meals and laundry services on Saturdays). The best part was my social worker (who left soon after I arrived), my personal housekeeper, one maintenance man, a few front desk staff, and my nurses. The food was delicious, and the rooftop views were amazing! However, some management was incredibly absent or difficult (especially housekeeping and the business office). Also, some rules and positive features mentioned in the handbook randomly changed or stopped without warning.

"Administration Unresponsive; Unexpected Rate Increases and Threats"

The place looks good, and the nurses are nice. But, trying to talk to anyone in charge is impossible. They don't answer calls or emails, don't fix stuff in your room, and suddenly make you pay more without warning. Then, they threaten to kick you out because you didn't know about the price hike! And all this for a tiny apartment that costs 14K a month!

"Convenient but Not Perfect"

We chose this place because it was closest. It seemed nice. It was pretty and clean. The staff helped, and brought my loved one to meals. They got what they needed.

"Feels like home!"

I live at Atria West 86th and have been here for a year and a half. Before this, I was at a short-term rehab place. Even though my health isn't as good now, I've had a great time here. The staff are really nice and take good care of me. I'm grateful for their help every day. I've gotten used to the daily schedule here and think of this as my home now.

"Resident Finds Joy and Friendship at Atria West 86th"

I live at Atria West 86th and moved from London 8 months ago to be closer to family. I'm quite social and have made many friends here. I enjoy the activities, especially the entertainment, which keeps me busy and active. Overall, I'm happy with my choice.

"Atria West 86th: A Sweet and Active Community"

I just moved to Atria West 86th and have been here for 2 weeks. The staff is super nice and attentive. I really like my apartment and the care I'm getting. There are lots of fun things to do here, both indoors and outdoors. Overall, I can see myself staying in this community for a long time.

"Great staff and food, minor staffing issue, but excellent choice"

The staff here really pays attention to the residents, and the food is quite tasty. They are a little short on staff, but overall, I picked Atria West 86 because it’s both high-quality and conveniently located.

"Highly Recommended: Clean, Friendly Assisted Living with Caring Staff"

We picked Atria West 86 because it's really clean, staff is friendly, and they made moving in easy. No bad smells when you walk in. They showed us around, residents all liked her. She sat and talked with us, showed she cares, still responsive when I contact her. Great first impression, they helped us a lot. Would recommend to other families.

"A Helping Hand After Tragedy"

This has been a lot for my aunt and me. I'm really thankful we found this place. They had room for my aunt after her apartment fire. The staff is super nice and welcoming to us. The place is really clean and looks great.

"Stay Away from Overpriced, Neglected Atria West 86th"

The Atria West 86 Senior Residence in NYC shouldn't be on anyone's list of possible assisted living homes. This place, at 333 West 86th Street, is avoidable. It's a complete rip-off, with a dense population and virtually unlivable conditions. Forget about the striking lobby, it's a trap. Prepare to dish out $10,000-$15,000 for a tiny apartment, and then cough up an extra month’s fee upon moving in. Frankly, this building, which used to be a hotel, doesn't fit the number of seniors living here. Expect long elevator waits due to the tiny, three-elevator system. It baffles me how it hasn't been shut down by the fire department due to safety reasons. They serve up meals in the basement dining room, but don't be fooled, nothing’s cooked on-site, it's all pre-packaged and reheated stuff. The building is always battling various plumbing issues, which often result in floods that affect rooms. Be prepared to deal with water bugs and roaches too. The staff? They're not the most courteous to residents, and seem irritated if you ask for anything. Low wages have led to high staff turnover. And the front desk hostess is often caught up in her video games, paying little mind to who comes in or leaves the building. I strongly suggest you spare yourself the hassle and pursue other assisted living options in Manhattan instead of choosing The Atria.

"Great care and community for my sister!"

This place is really nice for taking care of people. The workers are friendly and pay attention to what the people living here need. The food they serve is really tasty. My sister enjoys the activities they have. We think other families looking for a good place for their loved ones would like this community too.

"Clean, friendly, but better for less serious care needs."

The Atria West Side seems nice overall. It's clean, attractive, and has a positive atmosphere. The staff is helpful and quick to fix any issues. They offer lots of services and activities. However, it might not be the best choice if your loved one needs a lot of care. The medication service wasn't as reliable as expected, and some rules, like no wheelchairs in the dining room, made things hard for my family member. Plus, it's pricey.

"Perfect fit for my loved one's demographic but pricey."

This place seemed like it would be great for my loved one because it matched the kind of people who live there. But it cost a lot more than the Atria, the place we chose instead because of its location. If it wasn't so expensive, we might have picked this one instead.

"Needs more diversity, otherwise excellent place for engaged residents."

At West 86, an Atria Residence, I really like the fun things to do and how people get to be social there. It's super nice for folks who like being active. The spot where it is, is super good. The people who work there are really nice. I kind of wish there were more different kinds of people in terms of money and race. But my mom has had a great time there.

"Assisted Living Facility Receives High Praise from Visitors"

My sister went to check it out and she thought it was really cool. Everyone she saw there seemed happy and having fun. They had a bunch of stuff to do.

"Poor Experience with West 86, Mediocre Care and Staff"

Our time at West 86 wasn't positive. The place is quite clean, but the employees aren't the best. The caregiving was just so-so.

"“Looks Can Fool You - Facilities Not Worth the Expensive Price”"

Firstly, I feel like they would say anything to convince us to move our loved one into their facility. Three different places had already mentioned to us that my father-in-law would need personal health care assistants covering two twelve-hour shifts. But Atria on 86th Street told us they constantly manage situations similar to my father-in-law's. Hoping they were right, we moved him in. Within a week, however, they told us he'd need personal health assistants for two twelve-hour shifts. On top of the $8000 monthly rent, we're now shelling out an extra $8000 for the assistants. Since my father-in-law needs constant care, he can't eat in the main dining hall, where personal care aids aren't allowed. He can only eat in one spot, where the menu is identical every day, except for one special. While dining hall's menu changes daily. Despite paying $8000/month, he can't enjoy the tasty meals they boasted about during our tour. None of this was laid out to us before we transferred him here. Also, they said he could spend his remaining years here. But now they say he must leave if he can't move around by himself. Every move affects my father-in-law who has Alzheimer's, causing greater confusion, deterioration, and yet another expensive move. My sister-in-law tried to clarify these issues but no one replied to her daily calls. I also called four times in a week, even left a handwritten note for the social worker - but still got no response. Checking the reviews, you’ll find most negative comments from residents and their families. Whereas most positive ones are from people who only toured the place. Fancy buildings and fancy talk can't tell you everything. On a holiday, we needed a stand-in personal care aid. They provided one who didn't know anything about my father-in-law, who fell twice that day. Despite being clean and having numerous activities, paying so much for zero response is unbelievable. Thankfully, we live nearby and visit several times a week, but if we had to rely solely on staff communication I'd be worried. Choosing Atria 86th Street for my father-in-law has only added pain to an already tough situation. Everyday is filled with regret and new reasons to be unhappy.

"Expensive but worth it for meeting 101-year-old Lily!"

This place costs too much for what you get. But, I really want to take my dad there just to meet Lily, who's 101!

"Top-notch staff and activities at Atria West 86th Street NYC"

My dad stayed at Atria for a year. Even though he could manage on his own, it was comforting to know help was available if needed. The best part about Atria was the staff. I spent a lot of time there while visiting my dad, and I could see how tough their job could be. Yet, they were always patient and caring. Atria organized fantastic activities and outings that were well thought out and diverse. Being in the city and in an older building means you need some patience with things like the elevator and space in general. But if you're looking for a place in the city, I'd suggest considering Atria.

"Terrible Experience at Atria Due to Poor Medical Care"

My time at Atria was awful and I would advise nobody to go there. They're not supervised by either state or local authorities. The main aim is to get money. I'm living with multiple sclerosis and neither the management nor healthcare staff knew how to manage my condition. The facility is not suitable for people who are vulnerable. The physical layout hasn't been changed to accommodate the needs of the old or impaired. Even my friend was denied the mental health care they needed.

"Solid care, bureaucratic communication; New York vibe with river view."

They've been really good. Sometimes they add extra charges easily. The paperwork stuff is a bit hard to deal with, but overall they've been great. My mom enjoys it there a lot. They have lots of fun things to do. The care is really good. The food is okay, but they're trying to make it better. It feels very New York, especially with the beautiful river nearby.

"Aunt Thrives at Atria 86th Street with Care and Activities"

My aunt has lived at 86th Street for nearly two years. She used to live alone in a big house and was nervous about moving to a small apartment in a hotel-like setting. But she adapted well and now loves the company of others and the fun activities like music, lectures, and Jewish Culture offered daily. Our family really likes the staff; they are kind and caring. We feel great knowing our aunt is in a safe, clean, and supportive place with excellent activities. Thanks to Atria 86, we can all sleep better.

I’m happy to write this review. Atria is a fantastic place for people needing Assisted Living. Its central location is a big plus, offering easy access to NYC’s culture, parks, and nature. The staff is very attentive and caring. The food is well-prepared and tasty.

"A Lovely Place for Seniors"

This place is really nice. It's like a fancy hotel, but for old people. The rooms are big and clean, and there are lots of nice places to sit and relax. The staff is friendly too. Overall, it's a great place for grandma to live.
