"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short in Care and Communication"
I went to visit a few times but couldn't get inside because nobody was at the front. I waited for over an hour, but nobody came. When I finally got in, my uncle seemed really upset and slumped over in his wheelchair. There were staff nearby, but they didn't seem to notice or care. Right before he passed away, he seemed to be having another stroke or something serious. He was sweating a lot, his face looked weird, and he was moaning while slumped over at the tables in the common room. I had to ask them to call a doctor. I also didn't like that I brought in clothes and things to make him comfortable, but they just sat in boxes. But, there were two staff members who were really nice and stayed with my uncle during his last week. They were kind and caring.

"Poor Communication and Understaffing: Not Recommended for Assisted Living"
I'm being fair but really, everything was just not good. Communication was bad, and there weren't enough workers. I wouldn't suggest going there.

"Disappointing Virtual Tour of Birchwood: Mostly TV and Shared Bathrooms"
When my family and I did an online walkthrough of Birchwood Suites, we thought it was really bad, earning it just 1 star from us. The person who guided us during the online tour said they basically just have the residents watch TV and, if they're lucky, color. It sounded to me like the caregivers would rather just stick the residents in front of the television and not have to deal with them. The rooms looked empty and there were too many shared bathrooms.

"Washers and Dryers Outside Units"
We visited Birchwood Suites and liked it. But my family decided against it because the washers and dryers aren’t in the individual apartments; they’re in a shared laundry area.

"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living Facility"
I’m not a fan of the visiting hours. You’re only allowed to drop by from 9 in the morning to 5 in the evening. It bothers me that I can’t just walk in and see my family member. Even though I know his room location, I have to sit in the lobby and wait for them to bring him out. He’s not too pleased with the meals they serve. Sometimes, when I call, they answer; other times, they don’t. The folks running the place are really kind, and the case manager is super sweet. However, a few of the staff members could be friendlier. I’m not happy about the Covid restrictions. I believe they should let one family member visit while wearing a mask. Being away from family has been tough on my relative; it’s made him really sad. He just needed to see me. It’s important for all the residents to have family visits. I’d get it if they limited it to just one family member, even with the risk of Covid in the facility. Also, they don’t tell me when the doctor is coming to check on him. As the person who makes health decisions for him, and because he sometimes forgets things, it’s important they inform the family about doctor visits and any changes to his medicine.

"“Birchwood Suites Falls Short on Value”"

"Care Lacking, Keep Watch on Loved Ones"
If I got another chance, I wouldn’t choose this place for my family again. It seems like they’re not careful with the little things that matter. There’s always new people working here, from the regular staff to the bosses. Our time here hasn’t been great. If you’ve got someone here, you need to watch out for them and speak up for what they need.

"Costly with inconsistencies. Not recommended for elderly care."
This place costs a lot, but it's not worth it. When we were leaving, they said it would cost [amount removed] each month. We were making appointments, and they said they don't do blood tests anymore, even though they did them before. I wouldn't suggest this place to others.

"Mixed Experience for Memory-Impaired Residents"
If your loved one's mind is clear, it might suit. But for folks with memory problems, it's tough. Mom struggled with dementia there. The meds they gave her weren't right, and we had to push back hard. I'd suggest it for those without memory issues. Keep watch on meds.

"Avoid! Poor Care, High Staff Turnover, Terrible Management."
Stay away from this place! It's clear there's a high level of staff changes and the care services simply don't match up. She felt targeted by the staff, and frequently retreated to her room in tears. Unbelievably, they even altered her medication without getting our approval. They're meant to check in on her every 2 hours but they failed disastrously. She fell from her bed, alerting the staff, and no one even bothered to come. She was left on the cold floor for a shocking 7 hours. I'd strongly advise against recommending this community. Even the owner was unpleasant and didn't manage the place well.

"Top notch care!"
I work in the healthcare field and had the opportunity to visit recently. After seeing this place in the past, the new ownership and management have made some great changes. It's gotten so much brighter, and everybody seems happier than before. It's an inviting and warm place for seniors to enjoy the comforts of home, along with staff members to help them. The staff was friendly and the residents were happy. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality and caring environment. Birchwood will be recommended to my clients, an overall great job!

"Birchwood Suites truly is a hidden gem."
I was very impressed by this facility after my most recent visit. This staff is friendly, and it's a beautiful estate with a warm and home-like community. The facility itself is gorgeous. Everyone greeted us and the residents looked happy and well cared for. Unlike the facility that we had previously visited, this one was not as large, and we were assured that our loved one would not get lost in the shuffle. We figured that a smaller place would get her the attention and supervision that she needs. Plus they include all the medication assistance and care, so there is no extra charge. We felt that this place would be more comfortable for her as she comes from her own home. I think we found the perfect place!

"Terrible Facility with Unkind Staff and Poor Health Conditions"
This spot doesn't even deserve a single star. It looks boring, the employees are mean, and a bunch of the people living there have bladder infections. The lady who's in charge seems nice but she's really not and is a total fake. There's no real care given here, and they only have one elevator that works. Don't put someone you care about in this place unless you really don't care about them.

"Dismal Experience, Lacking Care and Cleanliness!"
My mom had a terrible time here. Her room was always stinky and never seemed to be clean. The nurses didn't seem to know how to take care of her the way she needed. They didn't offer many activities for the residents to keep busy with, and yet, they wouldn't let them go to their rooms. They made everyone join in all day. We even brought in our own helper and they treated her badly.

"Cozy care with minor updates needed."
Birchwood Suites is just the right size for my mom. It feels like home, and the staff takes great care of her. While having a separate shower room isn't ideal for her, I appreciate the safety aspect. Some parts of the facility could use a little sprucing up, but they're already on it.

"“Convenient and Pleasant”"
We go to the Day Service. It’s really convenient. They always have something happening. When we need meals, they provide them. Overall, it’s pretty good. They have a lot of people, but a few more staff would help. The place is very clean, although parking can be tricky. They could use more space for loading and unloading, and the driveway has some potholes. But all in all, I’m pleased.

"Mixed feelings about memory care facility"
My family member has serious forgetting issues. Even though the place claimed they could manage him, I'm not sure their team was totally ready. He stayed in their special memory care section for only four days. Twice in those days, he got up, hurt himself, and got back to bed without anyone noticing. This may be because they only have 1 worker watching 18 people at night. I didn't feel good about their ability to take care of memory problem patients. However, the facility looked okay, was clean, and the workers were kind. I feel it might be a good place for people with lesser care needs and those without memory problems.

"Great care for my dad!"
I am very happy with my choice to place my 86-year-old father in Birchwood Suites. He has progressing dementia, so I did not take this decision lightly. He has been there for a little over two months, and I can already see a positive difference in the care he is getting compared to another assisted living facility where he lived for almost a year. I wish I had found Birchwood Suites sooner. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for high-quality care and compassion for their parent. It is hard to watch a once vibrant parent decline in health, both mentally and physically. I live far away from my father and am the only responsible child in the family, so I sleep better at night knowing he is in good hands now. Thank you to Vanessa Lightbody from A Place For Mom for the recommendation and follow-up.

"Friendly staff and affordable, but needs better dementia care"
My dad is in the dementia unit. They don't really have activities for the memory care area. They do have some downstairs, but upstairs they mostly sit around and watch a lot of TV. We picked this place because my sister liked it better, the price was just right, and they were very friendly. I think they should do more training for dementia care. They don't really know how to talk to the dementia patients well and aren't trained properly.

"Birchwood Suites: Affordable, but Not My Best Choice"
Birchwood Suites is in a lovely place, once an estate. Inside though, it felt more like a hospital than a senior living home. The people were nice, but the place was kinda dark and sad. I didn't dig having to shower in a different room down the hall. It costs less money than other places and I do like how all costs are included (no extra charges for medicine or more help), but it's not my first choice.

"I spoke with Avi: Assisted Living Review"
She, the friendly staff, and the well-maintained facility offer a comfortable and inclusive environment for residents. The rooms, resembling hotel accommodations, come with separate bathrooms, TVs, and free cable. Residents can personalize their space with personal items. Meals, snacks, and transportation services are provided, including fun outings. Communion and a hair salon add to the amenities. While most residents are Catholic, all are welcome. Additional fees apply only for incontinence care. The VA paperwork process may take up to a year, but retroactive payments are possible.
