"Positive Experience with Staff and Maintenance at Assisted Living Facility"

I haven't noticed any bad smells. The maintenance staff has been very kind, patient, and helpful. The overall atmosphere is upbeat and welcoming. Staff members are ready to listen to residents' needs, sometimes through their loved ones.

"Mom's happy, good community, resolved paperwork issue"

My mom is happy at Elderwood Village. She likes living here and enjoys her time. I would recommend it to others. We had a small hiccup with her paperwork at first, but it got resolved. As her health improves, she can join more activities, which is great. When she couldn't do physical activities, there were things like bingo. Our loved one is much happier than we thought she'd be. Friends and family say she seems to be in a good place.

"1^"

Colonie Brookdale is in a good location, but the building is old and needs updates. The staff is friendly, but the rooms are small and the linens are worn out. My dad didn't like the food. Despite some issues, he's doing well in a different senior community.

"High Cost, Low Care: A Brookdale Review"

When you first see Brookdale, it looks like a pricey but perfect place for your family member. During the tour, all staff members are on duty, all residents are busy in the common room or other parts of the facility, and everyone is involved in activities. The place is clean, they talk about daily menus, past and future outdoor activities, stimulating activities (since this is a facility for Alzheimer's patients), and general care. Sounds awesome, doesn't it? But I would recommend dropping by unannounced. The maintenance team takes forever to fix problems (if they even do), there are only 4 caregivers on duty at any time (if you can find them), and the activities and staff/resident interaction aren't as good as they seemed during the tour. The management seems to care about your worries but doesn't do anything about them. My relative has been here for more than a year, and his room is always messy, the sink doesn't work, he's hardly ever groomed or bathed, medical problems and injuries are ignored, toiletries are never restocked (like toilet paper), and there have been 2 big increases in resident fees. The last increase was for "grooming expense, which is funny because a family member has had to do that every visit because it wasn't being done. Even though this place is better than some others, the cost doesn't match the care they provide.

"Convenient One-Story Facility with Friendly Staff"

I really liked the director. It's nice that everything's on one floor. The room is smaller compared to Brookdale Nisk, but it's still okay. It's in a good location. Peg knows this place.

"Friendly staff, good tour, overall pleasant experience."

"This place is nice. We had a good tour. People friendly. Staff helpful. Overall, good experience."

"Pleasant Tour, Cozy Community"

I had a great tour of this community. It's a friendly place with kind people. The only problem was that the rooms they showed us were small, like a college dorm. Overall, it was a positive experience, but we found a better community.

"Aunt Thriving at Brookdale with Great Activities and Care"

My aunt has been at Brookdale since December, and she's doing well. We decided to find a place for her because she wasn’t safe at home and didn’t want to live with family. Since moving in, she’s more active than before. She goes on trips and enjoys happy hour. The facility takes care of cleaning and her doctor appointments. She’s also making lots of friends. One of her friends needed a place too, so we suggested Brookdale.

"Good Staff, But Food and Staffing Issues"

My mom doesn't like the food at this place. She's only been there a few weeks, and so far, the staff has been great. They are encouraging Mom to join some of the daily activities. Mom did say she thinks they are understaffed and can't seem to keep staff members. The place looks clean and well taken care of.

"Decent place!"

The Brookdale staff is nice, place clean. Dad disliked food.

"Gloomy and Smelly Assisted Living Home Lacks Interactive Features"

This place seemed super gloomy to me. It was kind of dim inside and it reeked horribly of pee. Hearing that some folks had lived there for a whole decade made me feel really sad. Plus, there was nothing nice to look at on the walls or anything interesting that caught my eye.

"High Staff Turnover, Terrible Food Ignored by Management"

This facility really doesn't know how to manage things well. They can't seem to keep their workers; whether they're helpers or cooks, they're always leaving. Just when my mom becomes friends with someone, that person leaves. Most days of the week, the food they serve isn't something anyone would want to eat. The chicken is so hard and dry, you can't even slice it with a knife! When we complain, no one listens. It doesn't change even after different chefs have tried to make the food better. When we talk to the managers, they say things that make us hopeful. But then, nothing actually changes. We're now looking for a different place where we don't need to worry about mom not getting adequate food. We even had to buy a fridge for her room and take her meals ourselves every week.

"Poor Quality Food and Misleading Promises at Brookdale Colonie"

The meals at Brookdale Colonie aren't good. The meat is usually overdone and isn't really quality stuff. My Dad struggles to eat it. Make sure anything they promise you is written down because they'll say anything to convince you to pick this place. They don't have enough people working here and the workers are always changing.

"Think Twice Before Choosing This Place!"

All of the good reviews are about the old place. Once Brookdale took over, everything changed, and not in a good way! The rooms are seriously tiny. There's nowhere to put stuff in the bathroom! The food isn't even close to being worth $6000, like, not at all. They'll tell you there's stuff like a garden, coffee shop, hiking trails, and woodworking... but it's all lies. If they say they have something, make sure you get it in writing because you'll probably have to pay extra for it. And trust me, you'll want to double-check everything. Every little thing has an extra charge. There's no clock in the room. If you're late for lunch and need a reminder, that's $400 a month. And you can't change that for half a year (even if you eventually get a clock.) Someone finally complained to the Health Dept about them serving soda with meals. Now we get things like juices, milk, coffee, and tea. The daily activities are boring and the same thing over and over. The absolute worst? All the cool staff keep leaving. It must be how they're treated, with the pay, work schedule, management, or something. What a shame.

"Unpleasant odors and tiny rooms at this elderly care facility"

You can tell this place is like an old people's home. There's this stale odor from aged rugs. Also, the rooms are as tiny as hospital ones.

"Mom Thriving, Clean Environment, Fun Activities"

My mom is at this place and she's having a good time. The staff is nice, helpful, and always around when she needs help. It's clean and neat everywhere. Mom likes the roast beef, and they're helping her eat healthier. There are fun things to do like ice cream parties, music, and gentle exercises. It's a great place for your loved ones to enjoy every day.

"Toured, pleasant place for loved ones"

I visited this community while exploring care options for a family member. The place was neat, tidy, and the staff I met were friendly and professional. The layout, a big circle, seemed suitable for someone with minor memory issues. Although we chose another community due to proximity to family, this was still a viable option.

"Nice looking facility with friendly staff, diverse services & activities."

I think they do a pretty good job overall at Emeritus at Colonie Manor, but sadly it wasn't the right match for our family member. It's a pleasant-looking place, the staff are really nice, and they offer lots of different things for the residents to do.

"Mixed feelings about Emeritus at Colonie Manor"

In my opinion, Emeritus at Colonie Manor is pretty good. The people who work here are nice and take good care of my family member. The place is usually clean and tidy. But there are some things they could have done better. When my loved one moved in, her room wasn't fully ready, and they didn't fix some things until I asked. Also, when she had to go to the hospital at night, they only called one of the three emergency numbers we gave them, so we didn't know until the next day.

"Small Rooms Disappoint Despite Overall Satisfaction, +9"

I liked most things about the place. But the rooms are really tiny.

"Caring, Safe, and Friendly Environment"

From our first meetings to moving in and now being here for two months, everything has gone smoothly with as little stress as possible. It wasn't an easy decision or transition, but the administration and staff at Emeritus Colonie Manor have made it easier for our family, especially our Dad, to adjust to this new stage of life. He feels comfortable, safe, and well cared for. We pay an extra fee still half the cost of other local places because my Dad is visually impaired and needs daily shots. He is still independent and treated with dignity. He has also made new friends and is very social. We can rest easy knowing we made a good choice.

"Nice Community, Helpful Staff, Not the Best Fit for Us"

The community here is really nice and well-kept. I’m definitely keeping it in mind for myself. They were very helpful and I would suggest it to others. However, it wasn’t quite the right match for our needs at the moment.

"Mixed Feelings About Emeritus Assisted Living Facility"

We visited Emeritus together to check it out. The place looked tidy, folks seemed happy, and staff were friendly. The bosses were helpful and gave us tips for our parent's move. We've had some issues with everyday stuff, but they're trying to fix them. We're paying for more care, but sometimes it's not there. We're talking with the bosses to sort it out. We hear residents complain a lot during our visits, which makes us think the staff might be tired of hearing the same complaints. Overall, Emeritus seems to be run well, but there have been problems because of some workers who may not like their jobs.

"Comfortable and Caring Assisted Living - Mom's Happy Here"

My mom's been here a month. She's doing well. She likes the food, especially the coffee, which is better than some restaurants. She says the place is super clean, and her room is always tidy after breakfast. The people who work here, like the nurses and admins, pay attention and really care. I feel good about my mom being here. I visit a lot, and it feels like home every time. The first time I came, I noticed it didn't smell like a hospital. It's not brand new or super fancy, but it's a nice place to live.

"Activities Get Repetitive, Pricey and Small Rooms"

It was okay at this place. Grandma had a birthday and said she wanted to go to Florida. It's pricier here and her room is tiny. The things they do for fun are always the same, but she liked it until she wanted to leave.

"Not Ideal for Dad"

I visited the place, and it seemed nice with an ideal location. However, the room was as small as a college dorm, which wouldn't work for my Dad. Overall, it was quite lovely.
