"Clean and Friendly Assisted Living with Recent Renovations"
My loved one lives at Lake Shore Assisted Living Residence. The place got mostly remodeled recently, so it looks really nice. It's super clean. The staff I've met has been friendly. My loved one hasn't complained about the food yet. The moving in was a bit bumpy, but it smoothed out. I'd tell others to consider Lake Shore Assisted Living Residence, and I already have.

"Dad Forced Out of Care Home, Liable for Legal Action"
My dad, who's 88 and suffers from dementia, lived at this assisted living facility for a year. Sure, I faced some issues, but I handled them. Suddenly, out of nowhere, they called me up saying he was found misbehaving outside his room. They threatened to call the cops if I didn't remove him within two hours! They were lying about his behavior. He never behaved like they said he did. I think they just wanted him gone because they disliked him. It's pretty shameful; they should be ready to handle dementia-related issues. My husband and I had to rush away from work to pick him up - he was incredibly confused! I had to pack all his stuff in garbage bags and temporarily take him to the hospital as I wasn't sure what to do. They never returned my down payment and owe me a lot of money. These folks are the nastiest, most money-minded, deceitful, and uncaring people you'll ever meet. Stay away! Don't ever leave your dear ones at this place. I'm definitely taking them to court!

"Mixed Feelings: Assisted Living Facility Review"
This place has some good things and some not-so-good things. Most of the people who live here don't do much. There are a few younger folks who join in on the fun activities. The building looks really old and needs a big makeover. But hey, the view of the lake is really nice. And the staff? They're friendly.

"Best Place for Dad!"
My father is so happy at Lake Shore! He was recommended by an amazing senior advocate. When my father didn't want to live in my home, I was upset, untrusting, and at my wit's end. I wanted the best safety and care for him. Lake Shore has been totally amazing! After a smart match with a roommate, my dad won't even leave for family dinners or lunch out. He says, "They are waiting for me at home!" He truly feels at home here and is cared for in every way. The food, medical care, Sherry, and the weekend staff are all amazing! I truly love Lake Shore Assisted Living Residence! Grateful Daughter

"Facility High Fees and Poor Service; Avoid at All Costs"
I feel like I've been tricked by this place and they don't tell you the whole truth. After I flew all the way to NY and paid for a really nice room, they waited two days to tell me that my mom couldn't have her car. I had to move my mom out after just 18 days and fight to get the community fee back. When she was there, all sorts of problems kept popping up. They even have a big cat that hovers around the cafeteria waiting for food scraps. The place around where this cat chills smells like pee and I'm not even sure if it's the people living here or the cat. The cat wasn't even friendly! It tried to bite me when I went to pet it. Even though my mom had a seat with a label that said “lactose intolerant”, they were still always trying to offer her regular milk, cream-based soups, and pizza. If she asked for a different meal, after a long wait, they gave her a PB&J or a meat sandwich. Another issue was a resident who would walk around late at night in just his underwear, with everything showing. Even when my mom tried to tell the staff, nothing was done. I would not suggest this place to anyone.

"Avoid This Dishonest and Incompetent Assisted Living Facility!"
I felt tricked by this place because it was not honest about anything. I booked a room for my mother in NY after paying their fees. However, they only told me she couldn't keep her car after she stayed there for two days. We moved out after just 18 days and it was a struggle getting our community fee back. While my mom stayed, there was always something wrong. In their cafeteria, they let a big cat wander around expecting leftover food. The place always smelled like pee and I can't really tell if it’s the people who lived there or the cat. And the cat wasn't even friendly - it tried to bite me when I attempted to pet it. They knew my mom can't tolerate milk products and she even had a marked seat that mentioned it. Still, they kept trying to serve her things like ordinary milk, creamy soups, and pizza. After asking for a meal change and a long wait, she would get a PB&J or a meat sandwich. Also, an old man walked around in his underwear late at night. My mom complained about it to the staff but they just ignored her. I would never advice anyone to consider this facility.

"Frustrating Communication Delays at Assisted Living Facility"

"Struggle with Scheduling but Facility Seems Good Fit Overall"
The visit went okay, and I think it's good for Dad and brother. When I tried to schedule their medical checks, it got tricky. First, I waited on hold for over 5 minutes. Then, when I called back, I was put on hold again. After that, when someone picked up, I got put on hold AGAIN. I just want a safe, cozy place for them. It shouldn't be so hard to talk to someone about getting in. I want them to live there, but I can't find anyone to help me make it happen.

"Nightmare Experience at Assisted Living Facility: Worst Elder Care Imagination"
This place is a total disaster for elder care. My family member, who has trouble getting around, lived there for a year. We were promised that all her needs would be met. However, after they hiked our costs, we were again promised better care, which she never got. Our family member was left alone for long periods, with no routine checks, leading to injuries and urinary tract infections. Sadly, she was even dropped several times by a helper, which often led to a trip or even a stay in the hospital. The common room has a terrible odor that hit you immediately as you walk in. A lot of the elderly are left unattended for hours on end. Furthermore, they seriously lack staff. Many a time it took them full 30 minutes to reply to a call for help. Absolutely do not consider this place for anyone. I deeply regret we kept our loved one there for as long as we did. I'm shocked this place is still up and running.

"Furious with terrible senior care facility"
This joint is a disaster when it comes to elderly care. My cousin, who can’t get around too well, stayed there for a year. They promised us they could deal with her needs. But after a while, they hiked the prices, promising again our family member would get better care. Well, that didn't happen. She spent tons of time alone in her room. No one helped her change or checked in on her, which caused injuries and bladder infections. More than once, she was dropped by a staff member and fell out of her bed. She had to go hospital often and even stayed there sometimes. The common room smells unbearable and you can sense it the second you get inside. A bunch of folks are left unchanged for hours. They seriously lack enough staff too. You’d have to wait up to half an hour for a response when you needed help. Just don’t put anyone here. I deeply regret we left our kin there for so long. I can’t wrap my head around how it's still running.

"Beautiful Lake Views, Ugly Care and Communication"
My uncle stayed at this assisted living home for nearly 18 months. The rooms are okay, with lovely views of Lake Ronkonkoma. The food isn't too shabby and they offer quite a few activities to keep our elders entertained, especially if they're alert and aware. The staff our loved ones interact with act a bit like customer service reps, but they're overall pleasant. But the staff behind the scenes? That's another story. I made an effort to familiarize myself with the place and was taken aback by some significant negatives that seem to be missing from most reviews. First off, most of the helpers at The Lake Shore barely speak English, which made it difficult for my uncle to express his needs. I speak Spanish and learned that many of these aids aren't certified and often receive below minimum wage. Many are undocumented immigrants. A lot of them are nice enough - but some aren't, and they tend to cut corners like skipping showers for residents when they're short-handed, which is nearly always. This neglect might explain the strong urine smell that greets you as soon as you enter. If your relative is unlucky enough to be situated in the back of the first floor, stay firm with the staff. The back area feels institutional and has far too many residents who can't communicate and so, are left in their dirt for days. Something that shocked me happened in my uncle's last months there - a 73-year-old resident beat his roommate to death and the staff didn't find out until the next day. If you're hoping to leave a relative somewhere easy on the eye like Lak Ronkonkoma and forget about them, might suit you. I, however, wouldn't advise it.

"Disturbing Aide and Smelly, Yet Affordable!"
Lake Shore AL isn't too costly and the people running it are great, but some things need fixing. My family member didn't stay long there and the place had a bad smell, worse than other senior living places I've seen. Plus, when an aide treated my relative rudely after asking a question, I found it upsetting. This aide shouldn't have acted that way towards an elderly and helpless person. All in all, it wasn't the best stay.

The folks at the facility are really great. The health care they provide is top-notch and the place is always clean. But, there's one downside: there aren't enough caregivers to assist everybody there. They should also consider giving the place a modern make-over. It would make it look nicer.

The care was excellent and exceeded my expectations. My mom was there for only 3 weeks, but everyone was very friendly and helpful. It felt like family. "Dad's Facility: Poor Feeding and Night-Time Staffing"
A Place for Mom' did an excellent job locating an affordable assisted living facility for my dad in a hurry. Sad to say, our experiences with Lake Shore Assisted Living were disappointing. For starters, the meals were awful. To give you an idea, they offered my father, who's a 78-year-old diabetic, a hot dog for dinner - what a nutritional nightmare! Moreover, the portions were always too small. I remember one evening, my father phoned me sobbing because he was still hungry. That was the last straw - I purchased a refrigerator for his room. Sadly, the facility didn’t allow for any kitchen appliances like hot plates or toaster ovens. I was present during a fire drill once. The daytime response was impressive - orderly, prompt, and every resident was evacuated efficiently. However, in the evening, there are only two staff members, decreasing to one during the overnight hours. I seriously question the safety of the residents, especially those living upstairs like my dad, in case of an emergency at night. Almost everyone at the facility relies on a walker or cane, and I can't see how they can hastily evacuate without sufficient staff assistance. Because of these issues, I've relocated my father to a different facility. It's regrettable since Lake Shore had a promising location and was budget-friendly. Unfortunately, the dietary concerns and poor staffing at night overshadowed the positives.

"Quiet, pet-friendly facility with friendly staff, but lacks activity focus."
We checked out this place while searching for care for someone we care about. I really liked what I saw during our visits. It was clean and looked nice, and the staff were all really nice. They even let people bring their pets, which can be important for some families. But we didn't think this place would be the best fit for our loved one. It's pretty calm and quiet here, and we thought our loved one would do better somewhere with more activities.

"Decent Care and Meals for Reasonable Price"
Things are going alright at Lake Shore Assisted Living. It's not as fancy as some of the pricier places we visited, and it kind of has that "nursing home" smell because it's an older building. But, they seem pretty good at taking care of things. The staff members are nice, watchful, and professional. Plus, they do a decent job with the meals. It's a nice mix of the care they offer and the price which was just what we were looking for.

"Mixed feelings on cleanliness, food, but good amenities and views."
The person who cleans the rooms here told me they do it once a week, but there's a smell in my dad's room. They empty the garbage every day or twice, and they say they dust once a week, but it doesn't seem like they clean the rooms very often. Maybe it's because my dad has a lot of stuff, so it's hard to tell. There's a shuttle three or four times a week, and he has a little fridge. However, he's not happy with the food—they serve tilapia and mac and cheese every day. Some residents seem happy, and I talked to one person who really loves it here. They announce when dinner is ready, but they might not have enough staff. They have a barbecue area, a movie area, and a TV area. It's smaller and cheaper than other places. This place seems to be the oldest of the ones I looked at, and it's on a hill by a lake with a pretty view. The first floor seems to be watched more closely.

"A Caring Place That Truly Goes the Extra Mile!"
They have gone above and beyond! The staff here is super helpful and friendly. Some of the rooms and bathrooms could use updates, but they’re already working on it—they’ve done the hallways and some rooms. If you want to have a family gathering, they’ll help you find the right space. They don’t charge extra for family meals and really encourage family involvement. They are very accommodating, and if residents don’t get along, they try hard to pair them with others who will. The views are beautiful; some rooms look out over the lake, and even the back has a mountain view. We pay exactly what they told us we would. They also bring in entertainment every week, which is great!

"Understaffed Facility Fails to Adequately Assess and Meet Care Needs"
Lake Shore Drive, nestled near the popular vacation spot Lake Ronkonkama in Eastern Long Island, is an appealing and cheerful assisted living facility. There's a sense of warmth and family that can't go unnoticed. Unfortunately, this doesn't make it the right fit for my sister's needs. A month ago, we settled into her cozy third-floor room, complete with a delightful roommate. Too quickly, it's become evident that she needs more help than what can be given here. She struggles with basic tasks such as getting out of bed, dressing herself, and bathroom visits. This level of care just isn't an option at Lake Shore. This misplacement seems to stem from a poor initial evaluation. They simply should not have admitted her. Now, on realizing she needs the services of a full nursing facility, we're told the transition can't happen until at least next week. In my view, Lake Shore is short-staffed and missing the mark when it comes to meeting the needs of the people and families they vow to support.

"Pretty But Too Institutional For My Brother"
The place was really pretty and in a great spot, but I wasn't ready to let my brother live there. We saw too many folks who were confused, had serious Alzheimer's, or simply couldn't talk. I just couldn't see my brother fitting into an environment like that. It felt like a big, cold institution, and my brother thought the same. I didn't want him to stay there.

"Promising Location but Needs Major Clean-up and Renovations"
I went here about a year ago with my mom in mind. The spot is superb, she would have really liked it, but the place surely needs to freshen up and the smell of pee was everywhere. It's a large facility, and I noticed a lot of neglected areas. My mom uses a wheelchair so it's not a problem for her. If in the future they decide to renovate and tidy the place, I'll consider bringing Mom here.

"I liked Lake Shore"
I'm searching for a place for my 80-year-old aunt. Lake Shore impressed me—it's clean, roomy, and more affordable (several hundred dollars less per month for a private room). Sure, it doesn't have fancy chandeliers or expensive carpet, but who needs that? What matters is that my aunt feels comfortable, gets good meals, and has assistance with daily activities. Lake Shore is currently my top choice.
