Landing of Poughkeepsie

"A Promising Start"
I'm new here, so I can't say much yet, but The Landing seems to be doing well compared to other places I've seen. Staff turnover is always an issue at these places, but The Landing seems to handle it better with good people.

"Staff Friendly, Marketing Director Cares, Some Grumpy Caregivers"
The people at the front desk are always kind, friendly, and ready to assist. The person in charge of advertising and marketing is wonderful and genuinely cares about the residents. However, a few of the staff who work with memory care patients seem to be in bad moods sometimes.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short on Security and Amenities"
My mother-in-law had trouble getting into the facility when we went to pick her up. We'd tell them when we were leaving and returning, but often no one was at the desk to let her in. It happened a lot. The Landing was pricey, and if my mother-in-law wanted extra food, she couldn't get it. Fresh fruit was often missing, too. If money wasn't a concern, it might suit some people.

"Informative but Pricey and Large"
Our family did a virtual tour of the assisted living facility. The man giving the tour was filling in and did a great job. He showed us around and explained things well. However, it was a bit more expensive and larger than we preferred.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short of Expectations"
My relative didn't get the promised room, ended up noisy. Exiting memory care needs help, annoying. Not much attention to him, aggressive behavior ignored. Nonrefundable deposit not returned when leaving after few weeks.

"Attentive Staff, Good Communication at Landing of Poughkeepsie Assisted Living"
Landing of Poughkeepsie stands out because the staff always contacted me about any issues with my dad. They were good at keeping in touch.

"Small rooms and no on-site doctors"
I almost chose this place. I had a great interview with them. However, it was more expensive and the rooms were half the size of another place we looked at. There are no doctors on site, and it was far for me. When I told them I chose another facility, they asked why. After I explained, they changed their story about what they could offer. I just didn't feel comfortable.

"Safety Concerns and Medication Issues in Assisted Living Facility"
I'm not sure about this place, so I can't recommend it. A man keeps trying to get into my mother's room, thinking it's his. He was found undressed and about to have sex with her. He believes my mom is his wife, which she isn't. I'm worried about her safety. They said they need to change her medicine because it might affect her libido, which is not appropriate. The real issue is him entering her room, not her libido. They seem to blame my mom, who's in an Alzheimer's unit, instead of taking responsibility for everyone's safety.

I'd join this community myself; it’s that great! When I visited, the place was very clean and friendly. There’s a nice, welcoming vibe you can feel everywhere.

"Struggling Facility with Caring Staff and Communication Issues"
This place looks nice and the people who help out are great. But they don't have enough staff, no director, and some folks are leaving. We have to push for things they promised. You gotta stay on top of stuff and speak up for your family.

"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living Facility's Care and Communication"
Our loved one's room is really nice, super clean, and she's well cared for. The food looks yummy, and she hasn't lost weight since moving in. She stays busy with activities, which is great. Overall, we're pleased with that. However, they need to work on better communication. From management to finances to new resident orientation, details need more attention.

"Great Staff, Pricey Choice: Opted for a Different Community"
When I checked out The Landing for my father-in-law, it seemed like the best pick. The people working there were super nice, really caring, and they always checked back in with us. But, it ended up being too expensive, so we went with another place.

"Beware: Not All Pretty Plants Bear Good Fruit"
Don't be fooled by the beautiful scenery and fancy lobbies of this place. We had lots of issues- my family member kept falling down, needing to go to the emergency room, his bruises were not being looked into, and he wasn't receiving his medications on time. Nobody seemed to know why all this was happening. On top of that, he kept getting urinary tract infections because no one was helping him use the bathroom properly. We had to be there every single day just to make sure he was okay! I've even heard that the state has started investigating this place, over lots. I would highly suggest you be careful if you're considering this place.

"New Beginnings"
My mother-in-law is adjusting to living here—it’s a big change for her. Our move-in was a bit challenging, but the director helped as much as possible. The staff is great and attentive. They offer lots of activities and bus rides to cultural events. She enjoys the food—three great meals a day. She feels safe here, although I wish the cleaning happened more often. Overall, I’d give them 3.5 out of 5 stars.

"Mixed experiences with The Landing, but great staff assistance"
My mom got evaluated at The Landing and got accepted. We paid over $13 in a check but a call came the next day from a nurse at She. They said they couldn't take her since they couldn't provide what she needed. It was such a stressful situation since we had already set up her apartment at The Landing. We had no choice but to bring mom home after she left She. All this time, was such a big help though. She guided me in every step and I believe we've now got a good solution. The Landing is really nice, but I'm not sure what to rate them due to my mixed experiences.

"Great tour with friendly staff and clean environment!"
We visited this community and were impressed. The staff was friendly and answered all my questions about the care they provide. The menu looked tasty, and they have a lot of fun activities. We wanted a bigger community for her care, but I found this place very clean. I recommend that families check out this community for their loved ones' care.

"Food's So-So, Staff's Great, and Place is Mostly Clean"
I don't really like the food at this place. Everyone in the memory care unit gets the same meal, and sometimes it's just not good enough to eat. They give you ice cream in a coffee cup, which is weird. The food I've tried in the main dining room, though, that's pretty good. The place is clean enough, most of the time. The staff are nice people. Both the nurse and the social worker have been great.

"Great Place for My Mom's Care and Happiness"
This community is working out well for my mother and her needs. She is doing great since moving here. I feel she is safe and in good hands. The staff is nice, kind, and always helpful when needed. The community is well maintained, and they do a good job keeping everything clean. They provide good meals with a nice variety of food to choose from. There are activities offered throughout the day for the residents. I am satisfied with this community, and I would definitely recommend it.

"Great Care for Mom!"
My mom is doing as well as we hoped since she moved in. The staff at The Landing are doing a great job taking care of her. The food is really good, and we’ve even eaten there ourselves. They have menus and waitresses in a restaurant setting. It’s very nice, and the people there have been very kind.

"Underwhelming and Overpriced Assisted Living Facility"
My Mom & our family were horribly let down by The Landing of Poughkeepsie. Mom shouldn't have been accepted into this facility. The depth of care Mom needed surpassed what they were prepared to provide. The level of care was dreadful. They refused to check her temperature and blood pressure, or help her (by pushing) her wheelchair. Mom's legs aren't strong and she needed someone to manage her wheelchair. This place is darn expensive and gives awful service. We had no choice but to relocate Mom from this facility. Thank goodness for that. Mom's condition has improved significantly since moving to a different facility.

"Nice Place to Visit, Found Closer Option"
I had a good visit to this place. Everyone was really nice to my family and me. The place looked really nice. The building and everything I saw looked very neat. The staff was nice and friendly. It was a good experience, but we found another place that was closer for us to go to.

"Nice place, but guide's robotic and it lacks warmth."
I visited this place recently. It's quite new and really pretty. But, the man who showed us around acted like he was reading from a script, like he wasn't real. Also, the place didn't feel cozy or like home. But, they do have events and a restaurant on the premises.

"Caring and knowledgeable staff make a difference here!"
The staff at the Landing of Poughkeepsie were smart and, most importantly, understanding. The Memory Enhancement unit was well designed, safe, and welcoming. The staff was friendly and treated the patients with care while being firm and understanding.

"Pushy tour staff but nice place!"
The Landing place sure was clean and pretty. But I didn't really like the folks showing us around. They seemed too eager to make us buy something and sometimes ignored what we wanted. However, they knew their stuff and could answer most of my questions. Also, I tested a snack there and it was tasty enough.

"Paid Deposit, But No Refund or Returned Calls!"
I gave a $3,500 to reserve a room for my mom on June 3rd. We then asked for our promised refund on June 6th. But, now it's July 11th, and I can't get anyone to reply to my calls or give me my money back. This isn't a good situation!

"Close Neighbor Questions Poughkeepsie Assisted Facility Policies"
I stay near the Landing of Poughkeepsie and had observed its building process. It seems pretty on the outside. Yet, I'm curious about the many 911 calls made from there, often asking the Arlington Fire Department to take residents to the hospital due to falls. Just last night (on May 28, 2016), they needed help to lift a resident. Isn't it the facility's duty to have enough staff and tools for such tasks? A lift assist is ideally required if a person lives alone or their folks could not lift them. I don't see how stars relate to this issue. It makes me ask questions regarding the center's approach. Honestly, I might require such care down the line.

"Shockingly Poor Care and Safety in Luxury Elder Home"
This place may look nice, but trust me, it's not safe! My mom can't wait to leave this place. They treat her so bad, it's like they don't even care. When I come to visit, she's always dirty and they don't do anything about her being sick. They had everybody locked in their rooms for almost a month and a half because they couldn't stop a virus from spreading. It felt like they were paying 5,000 dollars each month just to be locked up. My mom got a really bad eye infection, but they didn't even notice, even though they're supposed to be giving her meds twice a day. I had to take her to an emergency doctor, who said he ordered special meds for her eyes. But when we got back to The Landing, the meds weren’t there. They said she’d get them in just a bit. But they didn't even tell her to wash her hands that were full of germs. They just let her eat with all the other people! I called in the morning and they still hadn't given her the meds. My mom was crying, saying she hadn't been treated yet. When I called the nurses, they put me off, but then they rushed to give my mom the meds so they could tell me they’d already done it. I wish I could get her out of there faster! Plus, she's always bruised all over. I think she's falling a lot, but the head nurse just said she was bumping into things. You'd think they would’ve told me about this. I wonder why she's bumping into so much? They really don’t care about their people.

"Good Experience Despite Illness Outbreak Stress"
I was worried about the GI illness outbreak and how Mom had to stay in her room for many days. I understand the need to contain the illness and respect the staff's efforts, but it was stressful for everyone, including the staff. Thankfully, things have returned to normal now. I hope it stays this way. Thank you!

"Smooth onboarding needed at The Landing of Poughkeepsie"
Our time at The Landing of Poughkeepsie has been pleasant! It's a pretty place with lots to do, and everyone is nice. They have someone who helps new people join in, which is great! My only problem is that signing up and starting was a bit confusing.

"Better Plan Needed For Meal Rejections"
My wife didn't want to leave her room to eat. I had to go there every day to make sure she ate. The staff tried their best to get her to eat but they seemed unsure of what to do when she wouldn't eat for days. It was really hard for me. A better plan for dealing with situations like this is needed.
