"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living"

The staff on the tour were great. The community was pricier than expected, and it felt too big for my loved one. The welcoming, homey vibe was missing.

"Affordable with good maintenance COVID-free community."

The community hasn't had any COVID cases. The cost goes up every year because the rent increases. When you move in, you need to pay a large initial amount which the community keeps. However, if you move out, they will refund your payment. Compared to other places, if you can afford it, this community is a great choice. The upkeep costs about half of what other places charge. I would suggest this community to others.

"Excellent care, friendly staff, and great living space!"

My experience here has been even better than I imagined. The people are very friendly and welcoming. The activities, food, and overall experience have been great. My two-bedroom apartment is spacious and comfortable. The staff, kitchen, maintenance, and valet services have all been very helpful. I couldn't have made a better choice.

"Amsterdam Assisted Living Review"

I went to Amsterdam, a nice place for older folks to live on their own. The apartments are big and they have lots of stuff to do. But it's pretty expensive.

"She’s happy and well cared for here."

My aunt is doing really well and even gained some needed weight. The staff takes good care of her and offers great services. She’s happy living in this community. I liked their location, the price was better, and it was the first place I checked out.

"Assisted Living Facility Ensures Safety and Care for Residents"

My father is doing well since moving here. He's safe and well-cared for, but wishes the food was better.

"Father Well Despite Food Gripes"

My dad's doing okay in this place. He's safe, but the food's not great. They're taking care of him though.

"Unpleasant Experiences and Neglect at The Amsterdam Assisted Living Facility"

This assisted living facility, The Amsterdam, has given me such a horrendous experience. The overall cleanliness was highly disagreeable, with bugs crawling near the coffee station and water fountains. Furthermore, the bathrooms reeked of foul, offensive odors. The aids on duty seemed more interested in engaging with their mobile devices and chatting amongst themselves, than dedicating their time to residents' needs. Even when the telephone at the nursing station rings, they barely bother to answer it. Once, I spotted a resident awkwardly pacing the hallway, clearly uncomfortable, with his pants soaked from urinary incontinence. Interestingly, as soon as the health department arrived for inspection, everyone was alerted to improve behavior, vacuum cleaners were hastily pulled out, and carpets scrubbed clean. This performance was, however, short-lived and rather superficial. The cost of living here, ranging between $7,000 and $12,000 monthly, is a massive setback considering the pitiable service and unfriendly staff. It's as though they'd only concern themselves with you if you showed up brandishing a bag of money. Previous trips here, through which I intended to observe the facility incognito, unveiled a desolation among residents, marked by minimal activity and constant napping. Furthermore, I remember a particular instance when a lady kept grumbling about one thing or the other for nearly an hour while I was there. Equally disappointing was the sight of a man venting out his discontent to an unresponsive staff member. The meals served here resembled the food one gets at an airport, presented in a box and hauled around on a cart. I certainly would not recommend this place for the sheer amount of money they charge. Instead, I'd rather ensure my father's safety and comfort at his own home than subject him to such an unpleasant environment. Most neglectful was how the aides were being treated as mere servants. The establishment is mistreating its workers, rendering it a truly unpleasant place. The residents don't seem happy either and communication is frustratingly challenging due to their unclear speech. This ghastly, odorous establishment absolutely deserves no stars from me, and I strongly advise shopping around for better alternatives or considering home-based care.

"Horrific Experience at Amsterdam Facility - Unfriendly Staff and Abysmal Cleanliness"

My experience at the Amsterdam assisted living facility was deplorable. The cleanliness was subpar, with visible bugs near the coffee and drinking fountains. The bathrooms were odorous and the staff were preoccupied with their cellphones, engaging more in idle chatter and games than actual work. Whenever the nursing desk phone would ring, it would mostly go unanswered. I once saw a man walking down the corridor with pants soiled from urine. Oddly enough, every staff member seemed alert and responsible when the health department paid a visit, quickly pulling out vacuum cleaners and shampooing the carpets. The monthly cost, ranging from seven to twelve thousand and above did not match the level of service they provided. The staff were neither friendly nor respectful unless you had a lot of money to spare. I visited the facility a while ago to check out apartments for my dad in the enriched housing section. I even went in undercover more than once. I noticed not much goes on there, most of the residents were idling - simply sleeping. One woman was always vocal about her complaints, coming off as quite unpleasant. Another man also constantly griped to a staff member. It was utter chaos. The food was served in box carts similar to what you’d find in an airport. Not impressive for my dad's standards. The place smelled awful; it was not at all a pleasant place to be around. The staff were treated like mere servants, not human beings. It was generally a terrible experience. I would not dream of recommending this place to anyone. I'd rather keep my dad safe at home or look elsewhere for a better living condition. This place receives no stars from me.

"Review of The Tuttle Center at Amsterdam at Harborside - Port Washington, NY"

This place would be a great option for my dad, but I also need to find a place for my brother. There doesn't seem to be as much socialization here as there is at The Regency, but this property is safe, secure, clean, and would give my dad great care. He would need to buy or rent his own furniture for a unit, while The Regency comes furnished.

"Disappointing Experience at Tuttle Center"

We really didn't enjoy our experience. Sure, the place looks nice, but that's about all we liked. The staff at the Tuttle Center didn't exactly make us feel welcome. They were tough to deal with too. And don't even think about asking them anything - you'll get a different answer from each one. From what we saw, a patient could be left waiting for hours just to get changed or use the bathroom. We wouldn't even think about going back to the Tuttle Center, let alone recommend it to anyone else.

"Best rehab center on Long Island!"

My husband stayed at the Tuttle Rehab Center for over two months. We would give the nurses, social worker, and PT and OT staff an 11 out of 10! Everyone was so kind and did everything they could to help him. The social worker, Renee, was amazing. She helped in so many ways even after my husband came home. We live in Sands Point, and it was an easy commute. I truly believe this is the best rehab center on the North Shore of Long Island.

"Support and Friendship at the Amsterdam"

When my husband and I moved to the Amsterdam at Harborside, we quickly joined many activities in Independent Living. We enjoyed committee meetings, bridge games, exercise classes, and especially our nightly dinners, where we made many friends. This became very important when my husband’s health declined, and he moved to the Tuttle Center’s skilled nursing unit. The financial benefit was clear since our monthly payments didn’t increase even though I stayed in our apartment while he was in the health center. More importantly, living in the same building meant I could visit him anytime. We never felt alone because friends from Independent Living visited him often. The Tuttle Center’s cheerful dining room and activities helped him interact with others, and I always had someone to dine with or join me for activities. Living at the Amsterdam was very different from having a spouse in a distant nursing home. When my husband passed away, the support and care from the Tuttle staff and our friends were overwhelming. My children and I will always be grateful.

"A caring place during a tough time for our family"

This place is amazing and caring, especially during a hard time. My mom spent her last days here, and they made sure she was comfortable and pain-free. They also paid attention to us, offering comfort, listening, and guidance. There were members of the clergy from many different faiths available to help both our loved one and us. Even now, we still get support as we grieve.

"We feel lucky to live here!"

The Amsterdam at Harborside is a great retirement community. My wife and I have been here over 4 years, and it feels like living on a cruise ship with even more activities and a bigger "cabin." The best part is that if we have health issues, we're covered at the attached Tuttle Center, which provides skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, and hospice at no extra cost. It's truly a life care facility. If you're curious, give them a call or reach out to me, and I can even send you a newsletter.
