"Negligent staff, poor conditions warrant shutdown of this facility"

My mother-in-law was ignored in her suite for two entire days, without anyone bothering to check in on her. The quality of care here is truly dismal, and there's virtually no activities provided. The facility has seen better days and clearly needs a deep clean. The employees stationed here seem to harbor no real concern for their residents. Someone from the health department needs to come down here and shut this place closed!

"Unpleasant Director More Zookeeper than Manager"

I didn't like the health department. It looks like the lady in charge doesn't even know what's happening. She's very mean to the people living there and her employees. She acts more like someone who runs a zoo.

"Great Place for Mom: Happy and Welcoming Community"

My mom has been living here for 7 months now. We couldn't have chosen a better place. When we first came to visit and met Robert at the front desk, he asked how our day was. Right then, we knew this was the right place for mom. Mom has made friends with many wonderful staff members and residents. Everyone has been really nice. Most importantly, we can tell that mom is happy, which is something we haven't seen in years. Thank you North Woodmere!

"Unsympathetic Wellness Director Spoils Great Community"

The community is pretty awesome, but the wellness director isn't. This lady is super unsympathetic and doesn't seem to care.

"Happy with The Bristal’s Care and Activities"

We moved my mom from Birmingham, Alabama, to Long Island and chose The Bristal in North Woodmere because of its location and the friendly staff. My family couldn’t be happier with our choice. She settled in quickly thanks to the caring staff. As a family, we are very pleased with the care she is receiving. There are lots of activities for seniors, and The Bristal includes family in events like Grandparent’s Day. They also celebrate holidays with special meals. Overall, my family and my mom are very happy with The Bristal of North Woodmere. Thank you for taking care of all seniors.

"Bristal North Woodmere"

My mom has been living at the Bristal in North Woodmere for over a year and still loves it. Seeing her in a happy and safe environment is comforting. The staff is very diligent and hard working. I especially love how the whole staff greats my mom by name and everyone is very in tune to her needs. I highly recommend the Bristal at North Woodmere.

"Great place for Mom with informative staff and community activities"

She was really helpful and told us everything we needed to know. I think it would be perfect for Mom. I just wish she thought so too!!! They have services every Shabbat and discuss the news every day.

"Fast, easy move and happy with The Bristal!"

Moving Mom to The Bristal was quick and easy. Thanks to the staff who always answered our calls and emails, everything went smoothly. She really understood our needs and went out of her way to help us. We picked the one-bedroom at the last minute, and it was ready in just 24 hours. Mom has been at The Bristal for 6 weeks and is very happy. From the food to the staff, everything is just as we hoped. We are thrilled with our choice and know Mom is in the best place. I highly recommend The Bristal at North Woodmere!

"Food Choices Need Improvement!"

My dad's only complaint during his stay at this community was about the food. He mentioned multiple times that there weren't enough choices, and the meals were always bland. However, I'm pleased with the quality of care he receives and the friendliness of the staff.

"Dad's settling in!"

Dad is doing well here. He's adjusting smoothly. Everything is good, and he likes it. The staff is doing a good job. They have activities for residents to enjoy.

"Caring Program for Mom with Dementia"

My mom got great care in the Reflection Program here. The staff was friendly and helpful to our family. They explained everything about their program when we first talked, and when we visited, we saw how well it suited my mom's needs for her dementia. It's not like a hospital, but it's not just a regular home either. When she stayed for a while, my mom liked the food, and the staff said she ate well.

"Lackluster Care at Assisted Living Facility"

In this assisted living facility, some caregivers were better than others, but most were not attentive. They treated my mom like a child. The food was just okay, and they had set dining times. Once, when my mom went out to wait for me, the staff said she was wandering, so I had to hire attendants to help watch her. I feel they overreacted, and she's no longer there.

"Friendly staff and big portions, but some privacy issues."

My loved one is still getting used to the community. She feels a bit insecure because her door doesn’t lock and she has no privacy. However, the staff and everyone else are really nice and attentive. The food doesn’t taste great and the portions are too big. One thing I do like is that they really try to make her comfortable, which is wonderful.

"Review of The Bristal at North Woodmere - Valley Stream, NY"

The place is huge, like a hotel. Some people might get lost. But it’s not set up for memory care.

"Not There Yet"

My mom hasn't arrived yet; she's going tomorrow. During her earlier tour, the staff was friendly, and the facility seemed nice.

"Warm and Caring Atmosphere at The Bristal Assisted Living"

Everyone here, from the management to the aides, has been warm, welcoming, professional, and caring. My mother had a tough time at a memory care unit in another state. But since moving her to The Bristal, she’s been upbeat and happy whenever I visit three or four times a week. She says she’s treated with dignity and respect, that everyone is patient and courteous, and that the food is excellent. Her room is always clean, her laundry and linens are well taken care of, and there are always activities in the common room. I couldn’t be happier.

"Dad Loves His “Fancy Hotel”"

My dad thinks it’s like staying at a fancy hotel. He really enjoys being there! The only downside is that it’s not a medical facility, so they’ve had to rush him to the hospital six times in the last few weeks. Some of those times turned out to be unnecessary. The staff is wonderful and pays close attention to him. They’re caring and friendly, always addressing him by name.

"Decent place, but communication needs improvement"

The Bristal seemed alright, though it could've been better. The helpers and place were good. People were nice, and it was clean. But talking to families could've been clearer, and sorting out my loved one's medical stuff was tough.

"Short stay, but a pleasant and active community experience."

My loved one didn't stay long before moving out of state, but I thought they did well while she was here. The place looks nice and clean, and all the staff were friendly. They really tried to make her feel welcome when she arrived. They also seemed to have a lot of activities going on, so it was pretty busy!

"Great Care, but Billing Issues"

Everything they provide here has been great with the care, service, and the place itself. It's clean and well kept, the staff are very friendly, and everyone seems well taken care of. But I've had some problems with their billing department. I got a bill that was a lot higher than I expected, and I haven't been able to find anyone who can explain it to me.

"Clean and friendly facility with longer respite stay requirement and higher cost"

We visited this place while searching for short-term care for my family member. It's a nice-looking place, clean and well-maintained, with very friendly staff. However, we found out that in New York, respite care has to be at least 30 days, which was longer than we needed. Also, it's more expensive compared to options in other states.

"Higher Costs Than Advertised"

The place costs more than they said. They say it starts at $3,400 per month.

"A Very Good Place for Mom"

My husband and I really liked the Bristal for several reasons. It's only about six minutes from our home, and the lobby and public rooms are beautifully furnished. The staff at the front desk were always courteous and attentive, which is exactly what we wanted for my 91-year-old mother. We met with the lovely Joyce Sokoloff, and Joan Shapiro took us on tours, explaining the basic arrangements. When my mother visited the Bristal, she was willing to make the move. Even though she's only been here for a week, she's already made friends, learned about events, and participated in many activities. Plus, her walking has improved since she started the exercise class!

"Clean, Beautiful, Active: A Comfortable Place for Mom at Bristol"

The Bristol is really clean and has nice furniture. There are lots of things to do there, like activities you can do without leaving the place. We tried the lunch, talked to some of the people who live there, and walked around to see everything. My mom liked being there and felt relaxed.

It’s a nice place with great services, exactly what I wanted.
