"Beware! Misinformation and Negligence at Promenade of Middletown"

I went on a tour of the assisted living center, and I was given a lot of false information. I voiced my worries about my mom being there and was promised that they'd handle everything - this was not the case. Most of the staff were friendly, but whenever a problem arose, no one stepped up to address it. The building itself was moderately clean, but it had filthy carpets and poor air circulation. I even had to get an air purifier because of all the dust. The food was average, certainly not the 'gourmet' meals they advertised, and the residents claim there is not enough to eat. There were two instances where my mom didn't get to eat dinner, and I observed both. It forced me to check daily to ensure she was getting her meal. They were supposed to encourage her to join in activities but that was another false promise, leaving her in bed all day, resulting in poor circulation and four falls within three weeks. On moving-out day, I was told a resident attempted to harm another and they kept him at the facility instead of removing him. I can't in good conscience recommend the Promenade of Middletown to anyone.

"Food, Activities Good, Staff Okay"

My family member lives at The Promenade at Middletown. She doesn't like most of the food except for the sandwiches. The activities are enjoyable, but there aren't many trips outside. The staff is alright, though sometimes they get a little impatient with the residents. I'm not sure why that happens. The place is kept clean, which is good.

"Homey Assisted Living with Room for Food Enhancement"

The Promenade at Middletown feels like home, but the food needs improvement. Some days, it’s just bread and coffee for breakfast.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living Facility"

The place seemed better than others I checked out. They had a nice outdoor spot I enjoyed. Being from the country, we felt the location wasn't very safe, but city folks might not mind. I wasn't a fan of the shared rooms. It felt too much like a hospital, with residents sharing bedrooms instead of having their own. It just wasn't what my dad needed.

"Family Tour Reveals Good Experience, Facility Needs Updating"

Our family visited the assisted living facility in person, and the tour experience was quite positive. It would have been one of our choices, but we noticed that the community itself is a bit run down and could benefit from some updates.

"Friendly Assisted Living with Room for Improvement"

Overall, it's been a good experience. The staff is nice, and communication is good. The community has a beautiful courtyard, which was a big reason we chose it. However, they could improve how they explain the medical services to families. The food is okay but could use more flavor. On the bright side, there are activities for residents, including a piano.

"Needs Brightening and Updating"

When we first visited the Promenade at Middletown, it felt like it could use some fixing up. The rooms were pretty, but the place was kind of gloomy. We ended up picking a different place because the Promenade didn’t meet our standards for a good life.

"Fantastic holiday party, caring staff, wonderful place for elderly parents."

The Christmas party at The Promenade was fantastic! The staff was amazing and truly dedicated. I'll definitely return next year to experience the wonderful holiday spirit. It’s an excellent place for elderly parents, with energetic and caring staff. Thanks to everyone involved!

""Careless Treatment of Residents Noted at Assisted Living Facility""

My buddy lived in this place and they just don't seem to care about the people living there, based on how they treated her.

"Exceptional Care at Middletown Promenade for Over Five Years"

My mom has been living at Middletown Promenade for five years. She moved in when she was 98 and just celebrated her 103rd birthday. During these five years, she has been treated incredibly well—I couldn’t ask for more. The staff treats her like she’s their own mom, and I’m so glad I chose Middletown Promenade for her care. From day one, they made Mom feel at home, and stops to talk and give her hugs whenever she sees her. The manager and the team at Middletown Promenade are doing a fantastic job. Thank you so much!

"Facility Fails to Provide Promised Bed: Treats Concerns as Jokes"

Someone from the staff assured a resident that they would provide a free bed for her once she relocated to her new apartment the next day. Unfortunately, they didn't fulfill the promise. The woman, who is mentally and physically challenged, had no bedroom and had to sleep in the building's common room. She was without her personal stuff. I checked on her the next day and ended up having to call emergency services because she was too ill to stand. Afterwards, I went to the Promenade to voice my complaints. They showed zero concern and seemed to find the situation humorous. I transferred all the woman's belongings to her new apartment. A handful of aides aided in moving, but the facility's managers acted as if I was the nuisance.

"Friendly Staff, Suite Layout Preferred, Needs Renovation, Privately Run"

This place was built back in the mid-80s, but they spruced it up a bit. The staff and the person who showed us around were super nice. We thought the layout of the rooms was better here than at another place we checked out called Braemar. They charge per day, and when you add in the cost of medications, it's a little over $6,000 each month. My brother is going to set up a visit for our parents, and I'm going to fill out some paperwork about finances. They've got a room ready for us, and we like that it's run by a private company.

"Great Place, Poor Communication"

I recently toured this community for my mom and was happy with the visit. It was actually our top choice for her. We thought their facilities were really good for her needs. The director almost guaranteed a room for her. We were all ready to move her in, but then Promenade said they didn't think they could take care of her properly. They didn't handle this well at all because they didn't communicate well.

"Be Wary of Assisted Living Facility's Hidden Costs and Negligence"

My dad's been here for three months now. If you're considering this place for your loved ones, please take a moment to understand my negative experience and how things work here. We're paying out of pocket, mind you. This seems to make a big difference here. My hunch is that if you're on Medicaid, they might take advantage by billing for additional services and hike up the charges from $20 to $80 daily for services, which they "allege" are given to a certain resident. Not even two weeks in, they insisted my dad needed added services for an extra $40 daily, which adds up to $1200 more each month. The supposed services he "required" included help with taking a shower, storing his laundry, and using the restroom. Despite signing a paper authorizing these extra charges for these services, it turns out not a single one of them has been provided by anyone on their team. Be skeptical with this place. It almost feels like they're set up to drain the life savings of the elderly. Since I started questioning these phantom services, no one's been giving me callbacks. Yet, I'm the person with the power of attorney.

"Safe, Clean, Helpful Community"

My mom's in rehab, but she'll return here. She's safe and well cared for. The staff is great, always helpful and attentive. When I visited, I noticed how clean everything was. It's a great place, highly recommend it.

"Too Far and Couldn't Accept My Mom"

During my visit, I saw that the place was too far from my family. They also told me they couldn't accept her. However, I did see that the community was nice and clean. They showed us everything, including the amenities. I would have been okay with using them, but the distance was a problem.

"Unexpected Hikes in Prices, Questionable Care, Subpar Living Conditions"

A buddy of mine suggested this assisted living home for my father. It turns out the place was under different management before and only recently shifted hands. The initial cost was a hard-to-swallow $1000 community fee which only escalated to $173 each day for a basic room on the upper level. Here's the kicker: after five days, they hadn't even given my dad a simple thing like a shower curtain. The quoted room rate was $105, but somehow morphed into $113 because of additional fees for medicine management and something they call “level 2 care.” To this day, I'm not even sure what this “level 2 care” is, other than another way for them to tack on an extra $40 per day. When I stopped by to see my dad, I couldn't help but notice that, after dawn of the fifth day, his bathroom still lacked a shower curtain. When asked, poor dad hadn't even had a shower! Now, I'm trawling through options because trust is hard to win back. I’d also like to point out that dinner at this place is as mundane as a ham and cheese sandwich. Do your homework before settling. Don't forget to ask about extra charges and what they're for.

"Distraught Over Neglectful Care at Assisted Living Facility"

My aunt stayed there when it was called South Winds, and it was lovely. Then Promenade stepped in. Sure, they revamped the main hall and some rooms and they do look splendid. But, the care they provide to the residents is terrible. They keep increasing the rent claiming that the level of care has escalated, despite our family helping with most of aunt's needs like bathing and laundry. They did less, but would not admit it. The same employees serving meals were tasked with bathing the residents. But by the time they finished in the kitchen, it was late and my aunt would be too exhausted. There are residents wandering, unable to find their rooms and no one assists them. The administrator is incapable, always claiming he's inexperienced and unfamiliar with the routines. They constantly placed the wrong clothes in her wardrobe, and when she died recently, we didn't get a single condolence call. We had to tell them about emptying her room in two days, only then they expressed their sorrows for her passing. They didn't bother to call. They refuse to refund my deposit because of a document I signed, stating that the security goes towards air-conditioning and parties. They never pointed out this information to me in the many pages. My signature wasn't on that page, only on the first and last. I wouldn't trust these people with even my pets! Be warned!

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living: More Attention Needed"

My mom stayed there a week. Some good, some not. When we visited, I liked it. Staff friendly, place clean. I said she uses a wheelchair, but they insisted on a walker. She fell thrice there. Not staff's fault, but she needed care. They asked for her wheelchair only after she fell. Later, her clothes vanished after we left. No response. Staff apologized but hard to reach since then. They need to be more attentive to residents and families.

"Good overall, but some bumps due to construction."

It's been good, but there have been a few bumps. There's a lot of construction going on right now. Everyone is friendly when I've visited. The caregivers are very good. They have a restaurant-style service, but sometimes there are complaints about that staff. They have people who run video games, bingo, movies, outings, and a vehicle to take residents to the mall. I think once the construction is done, things will be smoother. For the service they provide, it's reasonably priced. They offer extra care services for an additional charge. Some services are separate, and some come with the care level. If the care level improves, they don't adjust it. They have a center courtyard surrounded by the building, so residents can walk around safely.

"Helpful owner and cheerful renovations at assisted living facility"

The owner was very helpful. She gave me a thorough tour. I was very happy with all the renovations they were doing. I had been there many years ago when it was South Winds and found it very dreary, but the upgrades make it a cheerful place.

"Costly Semi-Private Room, No Medicare Accepted"

The monthly cost for a semi-private room is $2170. Unfortunately, they do not accept Medicare.
