"Extreme Costs and Lack of Care at Assisted Living Facility"
This place charges you a ton upfront with no upside. If you or a loved one needs long-term care or assisted living, you could find yourself paying an outrageous amount each day. My parents lost most of their retirement funds because of this place and they couldn't have cared less.

"Terrible Experience at 1st Community Health Care Center"
Came to the 1st Community Health Care Center after Riverside. We didn't get a guidebook and no one showed us around. Sometimes, the staff wouldn't even push the call button. The social worker was bossy and said even though we could leave, she'd label us AMA (Against Medical Advice). She wasn't understanding or open to talk, and was rather rude. We stayed extra days just for their comfort. The paperwork was done super quick. On our final day, we didn't get any therapy. The paperwork was done really fast and didn't need a whole day.

"Mixed feelings due to loved one's attitude, friendly staff."
We rated the overall experience as a 3 mainly because of our loved one's attitude. However, the staff members at First Community Village are really nice and ready to assist. What we appreciate most is the facility's location and the staff's friendliness. They made efforts to cater to my mom's needs by communicating with her, offering suggestions, and inviting her to events.

"Costly, Disorganized Assisted Living Fails Basic Standards"
This place looks nice, but it costs a lot and it's managed very poorly. It's like if a business was run like this, it'd go out of business. The food is okay, but pricey. They hardly clean the apartments. The staff is mostly nice but seems like they didn't get much training. The healthcare is awful. There aren't enough people working, you don't see any bosses around, and sometimes the helpers just hang out in empty rooms watching TV. It takes patients 20 to 30 minutes to get help when they call. Everyone says sorry and makes excuses, but nothing ever changes.

"Friendly Assisted Living with Amenities"
This place is nice, with lots of local residents. It's pricier than other spots, but it has a pool and plenty of activities. The care is good.

"Beware of Assisted Living Facility's Shady Billing Practices"
I don't suggest choosing this place. My mom had to stay at their rehab/nursing home for a while after a big hospital visit. The people and the place aren't the issue. What I need to warn about are their methods of charging people. It may seem like a no big deal, but my mom got a haircut, paid with cash and then kept getting a bill for it. We called a bunch of times to say the bill was already paid. They asked for a receipt, but we didn't get one. Even after I sent them a letter to explain, they still wanted the money. It wasn't a lot...it was just their sly business manners. They can't keep up with what's been paid and keep sending more bills. In the end, my mom picked a different senior home and we didn't even think about this one after what happened. Be careful what you pay for and ALWAYS GET RECEIPTS. They just want more money and don't care that they're wrong.

"Review: Inadequate Care and Unprofessional Staff at Assisted Living Facility"
My mom went to this rehab after hip surgery and she's at risk of falling. They told her to use the bathroom even though she should stay in bed. They also said she should just use the bed pad for waste, then call to have it changed. What happened to bed rails? I was told after 4 hours that the nursing assistant needed to decide if she needed them. Then, someone else said it up to the doctor. Tried to talk to the nursing supervisor and it took 20 minutes to get a response. When someone finally showed up, they didn't have any ID and I'm not even sure they were the supervisor. This place must find their leaders at the circus. My mom asked for her pain medicine and they said the doctor hadn't ordered any. When I asked another nurse, she said she didn't have time to go through her medical records. I'm doing everything I can to move my mom out of there. Don't trust this facility with your family!

"Mixed Experience at "
was great and super helpful. The only downside is that they need 4 years of private payment before accepting Medicaid.

"First Community's memory care excels; assisted living falls short."
My sister and I visited this place without our dad. The nurse suggested memory care for him, but after touring both assisted living and memory care, we disagreed. The memory care program is excellent, with smaller units for residents. There's an enclosed outdoor area with gardens. Our mother, who had Alzheimer's, would have loved it. The assisted living facilities didn't impress us as much. We highly recommend the skilled nursing facility at First Community.

"Staff Uncooperative and Facility Politically Biased"
So disappointed that this place is letting politics get in the way. I've been trying to move my mom from her assisted living room, where she's been for 5 years with her cat and in hospice care. I've looked into other options so she can stay with her cat, but the staff doesn't seem to care. It's really upsetting. The staff also doesn't cooperate with private duty companies from outside the facility. They make them feel unwelcome. What a shame.

"Concerns Over Neglect and Mismanagement at First Community Village"
First Community Village used to be great before National Church Residences took over. The Healthcare Center, in particular, is definitely one to avoid. Based on the Ohio Department of Health surveys in 2017 and 2015, the nurses struggle with managing medicines correctly. It's not the place for your loved one if they can't handle their own meds. It's also concerning that the doctors prescribe medicines that largely restrict the patients from speaking up. This stops them from chiming in on complaints or expressing when they are uncomfortable or in pain. Unfortunately, my family member finds herself in a lonely situation, being kept isolated and denied entry into the dining hall because she needs two people to help her move into a wheelchair. As hard as it is for me to say, I feel there are undertones of racial discrimination in the neglect my family member has been experiencing. I once took my mom out to a nice dinner, and she pleaded not to be taken back. Despite this, I had no other option. She's recently lost over 26 pounds, and when I questioned the dietician about her obvious malnutrition, nothing was done. I understand if I may sound biased, but these things truly happened. When I attempted to bring these issues to light, retribution was swift, and I lost all control over my mom's care. My 68-year-old mother is suffering slowly, and it seems no one dares to step in. Half of the Healthcare Center has been closed down. For more details, Medicare or CMS probably has information on why the facility is operating at less than 50% capacity. It definitely makes you wonder why a facility in wealthy Upper Arlington is only half full. On the other hand, Independent Living is much more acceptable, despite some cuts to the services by National Church Residences. You might find one day that there isn't a desk attendant ready to assist you at Chelsea. Don't be surprised if your housekeeper is doubling up as a nursing aide. The food at Chelsea, however, is really good! Stay far away from the notorious Healthcare Center, unless you don't care about your loved one and merely want to offload them somewhere. Assisted Living isn't as bad.

"Not Quite the Right Fit"
I visited First Community Village. The staff was friendly and they showed us around their community. It was a neat and tidy place. However, I didn't feel it was the best choice for my family member. I ended up picking a community closer to my house.
