"Great care, but communication could be better"

Parkcliffe has been a blessing, allowing me to be a daughter instead of a full-time caregiver. My mom’s dementia has been tougher to handle and accept than I thought. Sometimes, it’s hard to get updates and communicate.

"Good staff, communication can be tough, but worth the move"

One reason for my rating is that talking to the staff is very hard. I would still recommend this place. They have some really caring staff members. It can take some effort to communicate, but it's possible if you're persistent and patient. I just wish we had moved here first instead of going to a different facility.

"Positive experience with private room and friendly residents."

So far, everything's great. My loved one has a private room, and we can visit anytime. We even celebrated their birthday there. Lots of light and friendly residents. Good care.

"Terrible Experience and Unfinished Room at Care Facility"

Our family visited the facility in person and it was an awful experience. Immediately, we smelled a bad odor that reminded us of a nursing home. The room that our guide showed us was still under construction - the carpet was all ripped up and cabinet doors were removed. It's safe to say that our first impression was horrendous.

"Think twice before choosing Northwood Assisted Living"

Consider carefully before placing a loved one at Northwood assisted living. One review sums it up well. While the price might seem reasonable, you get what you pay for here. The staff is underpaid, and there are very few of them on duty at any given time. You might want to ask how long staff members have been working there. Not many stick around for long; it's like a revolving door. The staff aren't well-trained caretakers; they're just aides expected to do everything from preparing meals to cleaning up, doing laundry, and maintaining the house. Management even lets staff bring their kids or pets to work to keep enough people around. If someone calls in sick, there's no backup plan, leaving one person to handle everything or others to work double shifts. It's doubtful that the positive reviews come from people who visit their loved ones regularly. The blame falls on management for failing to attract and retain top-notch staff.

"Assisted Living Provides Compassionate Care in Home-Like Setting"

Dad received caring support for 18 months in this community. As his condition worsened, staff adapted to his needs, creating a comforting, home-like environment.

"Understaffed Memory Care Facility Struggles to Meet Residents' Needs"

This place doesn't have enough staff. Usually, only two people work each 12-hour shift from 7 am to 7 pm, taking care of 13 residents with dementia. They have to do everything—cooking, cleaning, laundry, and caring for the residents. When one person is absent, it's too much for the other worker. At night, there's only one staff member from 7 pm to 7 am. This isn't a medical facility; it's more like a home for people with memory issues. The staff aren't nurses, social workers, or even STNA's. They're regular people with little training and low pay. Unfortunately, it's the only place like this around. The only other option for dementia care is a locked ward in a nursing home. So, it's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. There aren't enough choices for dementia care, which is unfortunate.
