"Good Tour, But Too Pricey"
We had a nice time looking around University Village Retirement Community. We didn’t pick this place in the end because it cost more than we wanted to spend.

"Dissatisfactory Experience: Urgent Fixes Needed in Dad's Assisted Living Care"
My dad's only been at this assisted living facility for a few days and we're already seriously worried about his care. Dad was brought in by ambulance from a hospital after back-to-back days of surgery, which is tough for his 83-year-old mind. It's shocking to see him now, considering he was driving and living independently before his hospital stay. Sadly, his hospital care was poor, leaving him with foot sores and severe problems with his bottom which, per the facility nurse, is in a "really bad" condition. Thus far, his bottom has seen no improvement and he's being treated with a painfully sharp spray. Even worse, they've put him in the very last room down a long hallway. The first night, he fell out of bed because he was disoriented, having been brought in after dark. He couldn't figure out how to call for help. The third issue I have is with his therapy. The staff has hardly done anything, just making him lift his legs. First we were told he would stay for three weeks, but now they're saying eight weeks! I think it's because their insurance can cover up to ten weeks. Fourth, no one is taking care of his toenails. They're ghastly and need attention. They've taken the time to give him a manicure but left his feet untouched. Next up, his dentures are now broken with a front tooth chipped off. I don't know how that happened. Want to hear a sixth concern? My mom is miserable without him. She's not very mobile and pain from her hips forces her to use a wheelchair for long walks. She's tried calling from my dad's room to reach me but the phone never rings. It's also impossible to call into my dad's room. The final issue that really bothers me is that my mom and I keep getting calls in the middle of the night. Imagine the panic an 81-year-old feels when a call from this facility comes in at 3AM. And when I've tried calling them, no one picks up, and then they return my call hours later. On that note, my mom was called again at 3AM the next night, which absolutely scared her. They were demanding she bring in some T-shirts for my dad that they said they needed the day before, but another nurse had already told her it wasn't necessary. Seeing a parent suffer this much is tough, and it's frustrating not being able to do more as their daughter. Vocational nurses are a godsend, and my dad appreciates everyone who helps him. We pray for better care for him. They recently celebrated their 59th Anniversary, and everyone, family and friends alike, wishes him a full recovery and homecoming.

"Traditional community with affordable help, ideal for active seniors."
This place feels traditional. Residents start independent, then get affordable help. Dining halls are far. Cottages in nearby quaint neighborhood are best deal. Ideal and cost-effective for active seniors. Advisors Vicki and Sylvia are friendly. Many long-time employees.

"Friendly Staff in Large Community"
This community seemed nice during our tour. It’s large, though, which could be challenging for Mom to get around. The staff we met were friendly.

"Senior Living Facility Needs Aesthetic Improvements and Better Dining"
The community is nice and they've updated a lot, but they need to make the place look better. The buffet style is tough for seniors, so it was a big deal for us. Even though they bring your food to the table, waiting in line for 10 minutes just isn't what my Dad wants to do.

"Friendly Staff and Clean Place, But Found a Better Fit"
During my visit to University Village Retirement Community, the staff was really nice. The place was clean, and I had a positive experience. They answered all my questions, but I found another community that matched our needs a bit better.

"Assisted Living Community Falls Short for My Father-in-Law"
I didn't like the tour of this place much. They said my father-in-law couldn't stay in the independent living part because it's full. That means he'd have to walk farther to get to things, which we didn't like. The food options are limited. Our guide was mostly nice, but she gave me some wrong info. This place isn't right for my father-in-law.
