Prestige Senior Living High Desert

"Not for Those Needing Lots of Help"
I picked this place because of their ads and my visit. It's best if you can take care of yourself. If not, they will charge you for every little thing. Don't use it for short stays.

"Mixed Experience with Assisted Living Facility"
The staff did a good job helping my mom move in. They were also nice about taking care of her dog when she had to go to the hospital. But I wish they were clearer about the extra costs. The fees keep changing and end up being more than we planned. My mom didn't realize she was paying for each additional service they offered. I've had to teach her to say no to services she doesn't really need.

"Assisted Living Needs More Laundry and Setup Assistance"
This place is pretty good, but they could use some more help with laundry, especially for folks with ALS. It'd be nice if someone could come in on the first day to help set up the room just right for each person. Still, I'd tell my family and friends to check it out.

"Great Facility with Helpful Staff and Friendly Admissions Director"
I chose Prestige because of [name removed], the admitting director. He was friendly, explained everything clearly, and even talked to my sons about it. Most of the staff are great, but, like anywhere, a few are not as good. I recommend being nice and polite to the staff—treat them well, and they’ll treat you well in return. I would recommend this place to others looking.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
At this point, I wouldn't recommend people move here. I hope things improve due to recent staff changes. The staff are friendly, but the food quality needs improvement. Communication could be better.

"Disappointing experience."
Consider other communities. Poor communication, neglectful service, lack of assistance.

"Unprofessional Care at Prestige Senior Living High Desert"
We all hope for the best when it comes to placing our loved ones in a nursing home. These facilities aren't cheap; so it's only reasonable to expect excellent care. When my mom had to leave my step-dad at Prestige Senior Living High Desert for respite care, she had hopes for a decent experience. Before she dropped him off, she organized all of his necessities and discussed his everyday routines and medicines with the facility. Despite her efforts, Prestige failed to live up to their responsibilities. Her husband loves watching TV, but the room they had didn't even have one. Also, when she went to check on him the next day, he hadn't been changed or taken to the bathroom, and he'd been missed for some of his medications. It was crushing for my mom to see this, and she called the facility's manager numerous times. Later that day, when I went to visit my step-father, I found additional problems. The front desk was unattended for several minutes, and when someone finally arrived, they didn't even know where my step-father was. They had to text other workers to find out his location. This negligence was heartbreaking, to say the least. It seemed like the facility was more interested in profit-making than in providing basic care. The employees seemed disinterested and uninvested in their jobs. In the end, my mother decided to cancel her surgery and brought my step-father back home. Based on our experience, I would not recommend Prestige Senior Living High Desert at all. If this is how they handle temporary residents, I wonder what happens to those who are there full-time?

I'm giving this place 2 stars, even though it's displayed as 4 stars. Let me explain why. We needed respite care for our loved one because his wife, who is also his primary caregiver, was scheduled for major surgery. We had to pay the full amount upfront. The intake process with the nurse at Prestige went well. They understood his medication needs, as well as assistance with dressing, bathing, and using the restroom. They even confirmed a private room with a TV. The community itself is clean and updated. However, things took a turn after check-in. The promised TV in the room wasn't set up. The next morning, we found our loved one still in the same clothes he arrived in, and his medication hadn't been given. He struggled to get assistance with the restroom, and unfortunately, there was no help with incontinence, which left him soaking wet overnight. The staff claimed there was a misunderstanding, but it was frustrating. Later that day, another family member visited, and the staff didn't even know if our loved one was there or which room he was in. It felt like they were questioning whether we were in the right community. There was a flurry of texts among the staff to figure out his location. And still, no TV in the room. Management took forever to return our calls, until finally, the corporate office asked for another chance. But by then, trust had been shattered, and we decided to move our loved one elsewhere. Thankfully, a refund was issued a few days later. It's strange that this community has good reviews, yet none seem to come from actual residents. The staff-to-resident ratio, especially with very young staff, appears quite low. I urge you to consider these factors before choosing Prestige Assisted Living.

"Caring Staff with Room for Improvement"
The staff is very caring and knows everyone's name. They try to do more than expected when they can. On the downside, there have been several times when appointments were missed, like taking my dad to the doctor. They have a new management team to fix some of these problems, and it is pretty good now.

"Issues Need Addressing"
They're still having some problems. I wouldn't recommend them yet. I'd rather not say what exactly, but hopefully, they'll get things worked out.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs Improvements"
We've had issues with laundry taking too long and things getting mixed up. Mom went without medicine because it wasn't ordered on time. The food needs improvement, and waiting for it is a hassle. The staff means well but can be slow in helping Mom. Overall, Prestige Senior Living High Desert needs several improvements.

"Terrible Pizza Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
From a family member and resident in Bend, Oregon, I'm not complaining anymore about the food because it doesn't improve. Last night, we had pizza with mushroom and cheese. However, my slice had only three tiny mushrooms, each about 3 inches by 6, and it was covered in plain tomato sauce without any flavorings or spices. It was terrible and impossible to eat. The crust was as hard as a rock.
