"Mixed Experience in Assisted Living Staff Support Varies"
We're happy we found a good place for my mom where the staff treats her like family. My sisters picked it out, and I agree—I would recommend Abode to others. Most of the staff are great, but there have been so many new people that it seems like they need more formal training. Moving my mom, who can't move easily, has been hard for new staff, and she's had unnecessary falls and scrapes. Training should happen after formal instruction and practice have shown they know what to do.

"Don't Recommend Abode Care - Zero for Quality and Value"
We'd surely give a zero if we could for the overall experience, hygiene, and cost-effectiveness. This facility needs to be better in every aspect. Everything! We even spoke to the person in charge. I implore you, don't suggest Abode Care of Allentown to other families.

"A Wonderful Place for Mom"
My mom didn't want to move to assisted living until I took her to Abode Care of Allentown. In the lobby, a sign welcomed us, and mom said, "They want you to feel at home here." The marketing head showed us around, and by the end, mom said, "When can I move in?" I was surprised because she didn't want to come at all. Three weeks later, she moved in and has no regrets. She feels safe and tells us how happy she is. She's made friends, enjoys the courtyard, and joins activities. Everyone there makes her feel welcome. I give feedback to the staff, and they listen and try to improve. Mom is happy and safe, and I couldn't ask for more. Thanks to the team at Abode, the transition was smooth, and they take care of my mom. Now, I don't worry because I know she's in good hands.

"Poor Staffing and Safety Concerns at Assisted Living Facility"
My parents stayed there for eight months. At first, they didn't have enough staff, which made it hard to communicate about appointments and facility matters. The front desk was often empty. Despite these issues, we were patient. However, things got worse. Once, my mother was given the wrong meds, including her insulin pen, despite her memory issues. We had to argue to get them back during an outing. Another time, my father fell and was left on the floor for 45 minutes because no one came to help. The night staff tried to hide it from management. None of the alarms were working. The facility and nursing directors tried to justify the chaos and unsafe conditions, responding passively through text messages. We didn’t feel safe after these incidents.

"Unsafe and Unprofessional Assisted Living Facility"
The staff on the floor were really nice. But the bosses were really bad. They didn’t handle things well and tried to hide problems with safety for our parents. The bosses were not organized, and that made every day there hard. It wasn’t safe for our parents anymore. One time, my dad fell and was left on the floor for 45 minutes. They tried to hide it, but he told us what happened. That was just one problem of many. My mom, who has dementia, was given her own medicine (an insulin pen) by mistake. We had to move our parents out of there. I wouldn’t suggest this place to anyone.

"Private Shower and Cost Concerns at Abode Care of Allentown"
We visited Abode Care in Allentown and had a good tour. We needed a private shower for my loved one, but their rooms only had a communal bathroom down the hall. Cost was also a concern for us.

"Happy with Care, Food, and Community Support"
We've been really pleased with the assisted living facility. Mom feels safe and happy there. The nurses make sure she takes her medicine on time, and she really likes the food. Mom enjoys spending time in the courtyard and feeding the birds. Since I can't visit every day, they keep me updated regularly, which is great. They also organize fundraisers for Alzheimer's and local shelters, which shows they care about the community. Overall, we're very satisfied with the care Mom is receiving.

"Comfortable Living with Great Staff"
At this place, there are different room options. I have a studio apartment with my own shower, which is great. It’s a bit pricier, but I have plenty of space for my cat and me. The food is good, and the staff is awesome. I feel comfortable and happy here.”

"Inadequate Leadership and Poor Conditions at Assisted Living Facility"
This facility is simply awful. The woman in charge is extremely ineffective, displaying a vast degree of indifference towards the state of the institution. She is not a doctor, yet erroneously attempts to make diagnoses, proceeding to disregard any objections. The meals provided are of poor quality, and equally as disappointing is the service. Sadly, my departure from this place will come next month. No one seems to care about the quality of the food. The staff is in constant disagreement, creating a negative environment that you can feel. This assisted living facility is the epitome of terrible, due to the unprofessional nature of it. Also, my bathroom is perpetually out of order. This place is constantly falling apart and it's clear that those in charge are incompetent. There's a serious need for better leadership to lift this miserable place up.

"Good Director, But Problems with Food and Staff"
The meals are still being served cold, and sometimes there isn't any silverware. Most of the servers don't seem to be trained well and don't follow the rules, except for a few. The tech-meds need to pay attention to the instructions on the containers instead of just using their computers. The executive director does a great job, but some of the supervisors do not.

"Friendly and Well-Run Assisted Living Community"
This place is really nice. It's run very well and feels like a friendly community. Whenever I visit, everyone knows me and my loved one is really happy here. It doesn't feel like a nursing home at all. They have activities like happy hour, singers come in, and they can have a drink and share memories. They even have an outdoor courtyard. Everything runs smoothly here.

"Mixed Feelings About A&B Assisted Living: Charming but Needs Upgrades"
A&B is a pretty good family-owned place to stay. It's priced fairly and includes everything you need. [Name removed] was really nice and cared a lot. During the tour, we saw friendly people living there. But the building needs some fixing and updates. So, I'm on the fence about recommending Above&Beyond.

"Safe and Caring Memory Care with Attentive Staff"
My wife is happy in the memory care. The workers are very attentive and tell me what's happening when I visit. I think she's safe here, and it's a nice place. They have a good place to eat, and she enjoys talking to the other people who live here. They also try hard to keep her busy.

"Facility Friendliness Unable to Outweigh Subpar Cleanliness"
My visit to this residence was disappointing. It looked like it could use a good cleaning. They should make an effort to tidy up the place. It seemed more like a family enterprise because everyone did all kinds of jobs. The people were nice to me and my family. But, it didn't seem like it was the right place for my parents and what they needed.

"Excellent care and comfort for Mom until her final days"
The staff was very caring and friendly. Our mom’s health worsened quickly because of advanced dementia and other issues. We chose hospice care so she could stay in her “home” until she passed. We didn’t want her to go back to the hospital or rehab, as those experiences made her more confused and worsened her condition. Mom received excellent and loving care from the Above and Beyond staff and the Ascend Hospice team. We were happy with the activities she enjoyed when she first moved in. It took her a bit to adjust, but we were thankful she moved in before she needed constant care.

This place is pretty big, and I think my mom might have done better in a smaller one. The staff answered all our questions and were very helpful. It's clean and has a lot of fun activities to keep everyone busy. Based on our nice tour, I would recommend this place for good care.

"A Laughing Matter - Far From Going Above and Beyond"
I strongly discourage anyone who cares about their family member to avoid this place. It's packed with dementia sufferers, but the workers here don't possess the right skills to look after them. I've seen residents wandering cluelessly around the parking area and found some without clothes freely walking inside the facility. The staff is inattentive due to a dire shorage of required workforce. The regular practice here confines residents to their rooms all day, except during meals and a few activities, which only accommodates the overwhelmed personnel. Directions or requests about the residents' care are never followed up, plus they don't even have a dietitian. It would be a kindness to yourself and your family member if you seek a place that genuinely surpasses expectations. This place frankly, is a laughing matter.

"Pleasant Assisted Living Tour Despite Location Concerns"
I had a great tour of this place. I really liked it. It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. The staff was very nice and friendly. The location might be a problem for us—it's a bit far. They did offer me a meal to try. Overall, it was a nice tour.

"Good Family Operation"
This place is run by a family, not some big corporation far away. When you talk to them, they give you direct answers, which is a good advantage. The management is hands-on, so things get done, and the staff is very responsive. I'd recommend this place. My mom is in their memory care unit, and she's well taken care of.

"Unfulfilling tour of a beautiful assisted living: Care felt monetary-focused"
During my visit, I was running behind but the staff didn’t make a big fuss. I’m not a fan of the area where this place is located; it's right across from an industrial building with a parking area filled with vans and trucks. Looking at the facility itself, it's a pretty sight from the outside. The common area offers a nice view of the courtyard with bird feeders, fountains, ponds and benches placed around, under the shade and under the sun. It's quite appealing. However, I got irritated with the man who was interviewing me. He was prying into the other places I've visited and even referred to my husband as "Dad". He never once inquired about my loved one's interests or personality, but was keen on convincing me how committed they were to their care. It all felt a bit shady and appeared like they were just after our money. I saw the activity room from its window but he never bothered to take me inside. When I asked to see a private room and a shared room, he showed them to me reluctantly, saying, "I suppose I could show you a room if you insist". He didn't offer a tour of the Memory Care rooms but assured me that they are exactly like the Assisted Living rooms. I appreciated that they allowed residents to have a sleigh bed and matching side table instead of a hospital bed, to make it feel more homely. The view from the windows was pure nature, overlooking the woods. I would've liked to see some sort of biography about the residents outside their doors. In summary, the visit wasn't great. Though the home has some nice places like the dining area and courtyard, I didn't get a full picture of what the entire place embodies. Perhaps, a different guide would have made the experience better. I bumped into a lady outside who told me that her loved one, along with four of his friends, lives there and is quite pleased with it.

"Improving Care in Older Facility with Compassionate Approach"
We had a rough start at first, but they've been really good about listening and making things better for my loved one. At the beginning, I would have rated them 1 out of 5, but after lots of effort, we're now at about 4 out of 5. The building is older, but they work hard to keep it clean and well-maintained. One more thing I find important to mention is that they don't ask residents to leave when they run out of money, which I think is really nice.

"Pleased with this facility,"
This facility is pleasant—the building and grounds look nice, and the care provided is satisfactory. However, there's room for improvement. During visits, I've noticed lapses in attention to detail, like staff forgetting to put underwear on a resident. Additionally, the building layout can be confusing.

"Assisted Living Building, Not Homey. Memory Care Overlooked. Rate Steady."
This place felt more like a big building than a cozy home. They promised no rate changes, which was nice. But now I see they were thinking of my mom for regular assisted living when she really needs memory care. They didn't even show us the memory care unit, so I don't think it would've been a good fit anyway.

"Staff was very personable. …"
Staff were really friendly. The place was mostly clean. They’re fixing up some older parts. The new wing has a big room for two twin beds or maybe a full and a twin. You can use their furniture or bring your own. Each hallway has common rooms, which is nice. If you don’t want to stay in your room, there’s a big common area downstairs. The courtyard outside is well-kept. One of the owners, Basima, is a friendly RN who knows all the guests. Plus, it’s close to a Giant grocery store and the South Mall in Allentown. Bonus: It’s a short drive for me!

"Nice staff, but showers off-site. Courtyard and pet are nice."
I really liked this place. The people who work there and the owners were super nice. I talked to some of the people who live there, and they seemed happy. The only thing I didn't like was that the showers aren't in your room. But I did like the courtyard because it's all closed in, and they even have a pet greyhound that lives there with the residents.
