"Friendly Assisted Living with Great Food and Caring Staff"

Mom always says the food is really good. Some staff are special to her and give extra attention. Communication with family is great. I just wish they would strongly encourage her to join in activities more. I would tell others to consider this place.

"Understaffed Assisted Living Facility"

The place was clean, but the hallways and common rooms looked old and need new carpeting. The rooms were big, tidy, and basic, which was pretty nice. The food tasted good, and the people were generally friendly. However, the food servers seemed a bit impatient when taking orders from residents, although they were probably busy. We had trouble getting Mom's insulin to her before meals, so her food would end up cold. There was a scary moment when Mom complained of shortness of breath, and the staff thought it was anxiety. Thankfully, her home health nurse arrived and found her oxygen levels dangerously low at 79%. She had to go to the ER urgently and almost didn't make it. Overall, it seems like they're understaffed. The director was nice and accommodating, but I wouldn't call it great or terrible.

"Residents Face Staff Shortages in Assisted Living"

They’re always short-staffed, which is a problem everywhere. Staff changes a lot. Residents should eat in the dining area, but they end up eating in their rooms due to staff shortages. The friendly staff provides mostly good care, but I have to stay vigilant.

"Close & Friendly Assisted Living Experience"

We liked it because it was nearby, which was really important to us. The people living there were super nice, and the workers were too. They took good care of my family member while they stayed there.

"Mixed Feelings About Atria South Hills Assisted Living"

We liked Atria South Hills overall. It's housed in an old Howard Johnson's hotel building, so the rooms felt dark and the hallways were narrow. Without vaulted ceilings, it could feel a bit cramped. However, the tour guides were friendly, and so was the chef.

"Close, affordable, great staff—Dad’s thriving and enjoying activities."

We chose Atria South Hills because it’s close by, reasonably priced, and the facility is nice. The representative we met was great. The room sizes are adequate since it’s a converted hotel. My father has improved dramatically since moving here—he looks much better and is thriving. He’s participating in activities and eating all the food. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

"Marked Up Prices Forced Us to Leave"

We were really let down by our time there. I told them what we required and they gave me a cost. They said they'd reassess after a month, but then they really raised the price. We had to go as it was just too pricey.

"Atria: A Positive, Caring Community"

It's been tough with Covid around, but things are looking up. My family member didn't make friends at first, but now they're letting people eat together again and hang out more. She's super happy with the breakfast there. She also gets to play her favorite game, bingo, and they're planning more fun stuff to do. There's a pretty place outside where she can relax. Even though Covid made it hard for everyone, we've had a good time at Atria. They had some staff leave and needed more people for a bit when some college workers went away. But they keep my family member's room clean, take out the trash, and make sure her bed and clothes are always fresh. They do her laundry too. They really look after her well. They make sure she takes her medicine every day and they check on her a lot. She had to go to the hospital a couple of times because she felt dizzy and her blood pressure went up. Each time, they called me right away to ask if I should take her or if they need to call an ambulance. They're always careful and don't just let people be; they check on them all the time. We did a virtual tour first, and it was okay, but you can't really see how nice it is until you're there. It's a beautiful place with cool stuff like a fish tank, old fancy furniture, and a bird in the lobby. Some people have dogs that my family member loves to see. It's honestly a great place.

"Unfair Treatment and Overcharging at Assisted Living Facility"

The nurse manager studied my family member's case twice. They were well aware that dementia was an ongoing health problem, yet they still allowed my family member into the facility. After my relative entered, the cost for their care was raised by the facility. The nursing staff kept reaching out every day to tell me they couldn't properly take care of my family member. Despite this, they continued to charge me for the high level of care my family member required. I had no choice but to move my family member out of that place after only two months. I would advise everyone to stay away from this facility.
