"Parents Adjusting Well in Friendly, Helpful Assisted Living Community"

My parents are settling in nicely after one month. They are making friends and participating in activities. Recently, my father had a fall, but the staff responded promptly to care for him. Overall, everyone at the facility is friendly and helpful.

"Clean, Wheelchair-Friendly Facility with Effective Staff Communication"

The facility is clean and welcoming, ideal for wheelchair users. Staff communicates well; nurses oversee effectively. However, they could provide more personalized care for my mom.

"Avoid Barnes Place for Memory Care Requirements"

My relative lived at Barnes Place and it was a truly awful experience. Please, don't choose Barnes Place for Memory Care. They claim to be a Memory Care center, but they are not!

"Barnes: Pet-Friendly, Spacious, and Welcoming!"

My mom liked her time at Barnes, but I wish she could’ve stayed longer. She enjoyed meeting people and loved that pets were allowed. The spacious room with a fridge and microwave was a plus. Barnes is visitor-friendly.

"Mixed Satisfaction with Assisted Living: Accessibility and Comfort Improvements Needed"

We're happy with Dad's situation at Barnes. Suggestions: 1. Add a light at the Wood Street sign for better nighttime visibility. 2. Improve guest admission process after 8 PM to reduce wait times. 3. Place a chair in the entry for residents needing rest. 4. Extend the front pull-up area to accommodate cars under the portico. 5. Increase parking near the entrance. 6. Improve walker accessibility around the building for safer walks. Overall, we're pleased with his care and accommodations.

No big changes needed. We'd suggest this place to other families based on our experience.

"Mixed Experience with Staff at Assisted Living Community"

It's been a nice place for my loved one. The room is nice. The regular staff are good. There are many agency staff because of COVID. Some agency nurses seem untrained. My loved one can communicate needs, which helps.

"Assessment Process and Costs at Barnes Place"

I want to share with others considering Barnes Place for their loved ones that they should know the facility's assessment process has some problems. They rate patients on a scale from 0 to 6, and as the care level increases, so does the cost. My loved one started at a level 1, but within a few weeks, they were at a level 5.

"Awful assisted living facility with poor hygiene and negligent staff"

This place is simply disastrous! It's definitely experienced a downfall. The aides endlessly create a mean and belittling environment that's unbearable. There's only a nurse present part-time, while unknown "med techs" are supposedly managing everything. The lack of cleanliness in the residents' rooms is a wide-scale concern. The mess of dirty clothes and scattered supplies is reminiscent of a hoarder's home! The director never responds to the concerns of family members and the man running the home office lacks essential knowledge. The food quality is passable, but care for the residents is absolutely poor. My family member suffered from sores due to being left stationary in a chair all day. All staff involved in this operation should really feel guilty about their roles. Don't dare send someone you care about or even dislike here!

"Declining care, overworked staff, misleading information – avoid this facility."

My family member stayed a year. Care worsened. Staff overworked. Lied to.

"Warning: Poor Senior Care and Staff Changes at Barnes"

Barnes gets a thumbs-down from me. Initially in 2018, the team at this assisted living facility were solid and looked out for my grandma. But since then, the quality of care has nosedived. They've had so much staff turnover in the past two years. The main nurse doesn't seem to care much about the residents. My grandma, who can't move around comfortably or adjust her position herself, was found completely uncovered in bed by her hospice nurse. The helpers in Barnes seemed clueless as to how it happened, suggesting, "She must have done it herself." Then my grandma developed a respiratory infection and had to be put on antibiotics. Her lips went all puffy, and she had difficulty swallowing. They joked that it was like she'd had a "Botox treatment". From what I saw, I think she had an allergic reaction to the medicine. She got oral thrush and couldn't eat because of it. Finally, I moved her to a different location. And you know what? Her condition improved dramatically at the new place. She got the right medication for her thrush, started eating again, and looks really good now. I'm certain that if I had left her at Barnes, her health would have worsened fast.

"Declining Care Quality at Assisted Living Facility"

The care used to be good here two years ago. But now, it's not the same. We had to take our loved one away because things have been getting worse steadily. They try to make everything look nice, but they're not providing good care. There are a couple of good aides, but they're not enough to make up for it.
