"Good experience but watch out for paperwork confusion"
We've had a good experience with Brookdale Harrisburg. However, moving my parents in was confusing because of the paperwork and payments. I recommend making copies of any forms you fill out.

"Weekend Staff Needed"
We picked Brookdale Harrisburg because it's friendly and conveniently located. It'd be great to have someone at the lobby desk on weekends.

"Affordable, friendly assisted living, but lacks standout features."
This place is pretty good. The folks are nice. We chose it 'cause it's affordable and had space available. Needed a place fast.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
The staff is friendly and kind. My family member enjoys being there and seems happy. However, communication could improve. Some staff lack knowledge in health matters, and I've had to escalate issues to upper management. The monthly rate increased significantly after just a few months. There are security concerns in certain areas, and they're occasionally short-staffed.

"Family Satisfied with Assisted Living, Recommends Community"
Overall, our family and our loved one are happy with the experience at this assisted living facility. There are a few small issues that could be improved, such as getting a clearer breakdown of extra costs. Despite this, we would still suggest other families consider this community for their loved ones. The residents enjoy bus trips to scenic places, and during Christmas, they took everyone out to see beautiful Christmas lights. There are plenty of activities available for them to participate in. Additionally, the physical therapist department is excellent.

"Inconsistent Service and Rising Costs at Brookdale Harrisburg"
I wouldn't suggest Brookdale Harrisburg. They kept raising prices suddenly, leaving us with a higher bill without explaining why. In just six months, our bill went up by about $1000, which is tough on a fixed budget. They were inflexible about medications, insisting we use their pharmacy instead of our free one. The friendliness of the staff seemed to depend on whether you were arriving or leaving. They were welcoming when you arrived but not when you left.

"Mixed Experience at Brookdale Assisted Living"
We picked Brookdale because it’s close by and works well for our loved ones. The meals and dining service are okay. The doctor’s care could be better—they need to read charts carefully and address complaints more thoroughly.

"Mixed feelings about staff; residents leaving unhappy."
Our family visited the facility in person, but we didn't find the staff very friendly. Some residents we knew were leaving because they weren't happy with their experience.

"Friendly staff, clean, secure, great communication, 24/7 access."
I would recommend Brookdale Harrisburg to others. I feel like my loved one is really well cared for. The people are super friendly, and the place is always clean. It’s well-staffed, with enough people to help everyone. The community isn’t big and sprawling; it’s very quaint. For memory care, everything is on one level and secured behind a locked door with an alarm system. Communication with our family has been great—they usually call and send emails about events. I also love that I can visit anytime, day or night.

"Mixed Feelings About Brookdale Assisted Living Facility"
We visited Brookdale in person. It seemed nice overall, but when we walked in, it felt like a hospital with its very structured look. The halls were mostly empty, and we spent a lot of time in the office rather than seeing the community. We didn't see many residents moving around either.

"Disappointing Care and Long Quarantine Impact Loved One's Decline"
Our parents got sick with COVID at Brookdale. They kept them locked up for more than 3 weeks, but we understand it wasn’t their fault. However, being stuck inside like that really hurt our mom, who has dementia. She got a lot worse. We paid for better care than what they gave, so it was disappointing.

"Unattended Desk and Unanswered Questions at Assisted Living Facility"
I was really let down. I got there for my meeting and no one was at the front desk. I was there for an hour and never saw anyone at the desk. The worker couldn't answer most of my questions. I wasn't sure if they had short-term care, which is what I was looking for. They didn't have any skilled care on site. I was shown into rooms of residents who weren't there, probably without their okay. I also saw three vacant units. The rooms are big enough but don't have fridges. There's one small fridge for everyone to use. The place really needs to be updated. Everything looks worn out. There's a nice covered patio outside for residents and a nice front porch with chairs. They have lots of activities, but the schedule was for last month.

"Great place for Mom"
My sister and I were super impressed as soon as we walked in. We thought Mom would really like it there. [Name removed] was very prepared and answered all our questions. She showed us around the place and then went over the costs with us. We found out other family members had stayed there for short periods and loved it. They told us it was great. We also found out it got completely renovated in the last 2 years. Now it looks really nice, not old and dirty anymore.

"Wasted Time and Disgusting Conditions, Despite Polite Staff"
They said there was a spot for my dad in the memory care area. I went to see it, but they told me it was fully booked. What a waste of time! This place was gross. Even if they had an opening, I wouldn't let my dad stay there. They are super kind and polite, though.

"Bright, Upbeat Atmosphere Wanted; Pushy Sales Unwelcome"
This community wasn't quite right for my grandmother. We wanted her to be in a place with a happier and livelier vibe. The person in charge of selling the place was too insistent for me. I had to choose based on what was best for us and how cozy it would be for my grandmother.
