"Lack of Care and Accessibility in Orthodox Jewish-Run Facility"

This elderly living complex, run by Orthodox Jews, lends a worn-out look from within, ranging from the layout of the lounges to the bedding spaces. One wouldn't miss the unpleasant smell from the antiquated plumbing structures and lighting fixtures that cast too intense a light. The strict Jewish Administrator seemed to prioritize his faith and beliefs over the welfare of the residents and he's rarely accessible when you need him due to absences during both Jewish and other public holidays. Besides, he's not allowed to work on his rest day. The management should ideally operate from Monday to Friday, remaining on standby for sudden emergencies, but after 5:30 pm, or on weekends, there's usually no one from the directors available, except the medical caregivers, who, in my opinion, are rather carefree and indifferent.

"Odd and Unpleasant Scent in Assisted Living Facility"

The facility smelled really strange and uncomfortable.

"Old, cramped, but friendly staff."

We didn't like it much. Everything looked old. Dining was okay. Aunt couldn't afford it.

"Outdated Community with Friendly Staff"

We didn't really like this place much. When we walked around, everything seemed old-fashioned, from the lobby to the rooms where the residents stay. It seemed like nothing had been updated in a long time. The only part that didn't feel like a typical nursing home was the dining area, which looked more like a restaurant. But my aunt would have had to share a room and bathroom to afford it, and that wouldn't have worked. However, the people who worked there were nice and helpful.

"Adjusting to Oakwood: Initial Expectations vs. Reality"

My mother-in-law, 91, moved to Oakwood for companionship after her son's passing. After three weeks, she hasn't engaged much. Hoping for improvement.

"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living Facility"

I didn't like where we parked. The place wasn't cozy. But the staff was nice, helped folks, and smiled a lot.

"Good Facility, but Not for Mom’s Mobility Needs"

We checked out this place first and really liked it. We chatted with some folks who’ve been there a long time and they’re happy. The people working there are super nice, know a lot, and hang out with everyone. They’ve got lots of fun stuff to do and places to go on trips. My mom only needs a little help with her bath, walking, and taking her pills. She uses a walker to get around, but can’t go far. She’s never used a wheelchair and doesn’t know how. The only thing is, she can’t stay here because she needs to be able to make it to the dining room on her own to eat, and that’s not safe for her here.

"Mom is very happy here, and so am I"

I've had a great experience with Oakwood Residence. Whenever I had issues or questions, they were always handled quickly and well. The staff is very friendly and kind. My mom is really happy there, and that's what matters to me.

"Cozy and Tidy Home for Seniors in Philly"

This place is pretty clean, and the people who work here are nice. I talked to some of the folks who live here, and they seem happy.

"Terrible Care and Negligence at Assisted Living Facility Witnessed"

My grandpa was at this assisted living facility when it was called Ashton Hall. The care he received there was terrible. My mom and I had to almost live there, taking turns to care for him ourselves for 16 hours a day. Back then, it was a bad place and even now, it has a really bad name in the medical community. Not long ago, I saw a resident from this place being dropped off alone at an eye doctor's office. He didn't have a nurse with him, no medical records or charts, could hardly see, walked wobbly, and his clothes were dirty. His pants were slipping down because he didn't have a belt and was struggling to hold them up and balance himself at the same time. They left him all alone in the waiting room to manage on his own. It was a sad thing to see. When my grandpa was there, they were even about to send him to the hospital without any paperwork or a helper with him when my husband and I came for a visit. We had to go with him to the hospital so he would know what was going on and why he was there. My grandpa was prone to falling and needed someone with him all the time. This place isn't and never will be a choice for me.

"Dreadful Experience and Pitiful Care at Assisted Living Facility"

My grandpa stayed at Ashton Hall when it was still called that. His care was awful. My mom and I had to take turns being with him 16 hours a day, just to make sure he was okay. It was bad then and it's still bad now, and a lot of people in the doctor community agree with me. Just recently, I saw a resident from there at the eye doctor. He was all alone, couldn't see very well and was unsteady walking. His clothes were dirty and his pants were practically falling off. He had to use one hand to keep his pants up and the other to keep from falling over. He was just left there all by himself. It was hard to watch. One time, my grandpa was about to be sent to the hospital alone with no notes or anything, but my husband and I got there just in time. We went with him to the hospital; otherwise, he wouldn't have known what was happening or why he was there. He could have easily fallen and nobody would have been there to help. I would never, ever pick this place.
