Senior Commons at Powder Mill

"Disappointing Assisted Living Experience"
The food wasn't good and made me lose my appetite. They didn't listen to our requests to clean and fix my mom's room. The people living there were nice to my mom, but the workers seemed annoyed and didn't care sometimes. There wasn't a good place for her to walk outside, just a short sidewalk. We all felt sad because she needed more help than she got.

"Caring and Accommodating Assisted Living for Loved Ones"
After doing lots of research with my cousin, we picked Senior Commons. They've been really good to us from beginning to end. My dad was in New York before we moved him closer to me and my sister. They worked with our schedules so we could set up his space before he moved in. I was worried about how he'd adjust because he didn't want to leave his home. But the staff made a big effort to help him settle in. I've done activities with my dad and everyone there is friendly and likes to joke around. I think my dad feels like he belongs there. There have been some small problems, but once everything came together, I feel like my dad is in the right place to get what he needs. Any issues I've had, the managers fixed them fast and found solutions that helped.

"Mixed Experience at Senior Commons"
My family member used to live at Senior Commons at Powder Mill. Moving in was simple, and we had good communication with the staff. The housekeeping was okay, and the meals were very good. However, if your loved one needs extra care, this place might not be the best fit.

"Good staff, social activities, and communication; average food"
I would recommend Senior Commons at Powder Mill to others. The staff is nice. My mom likes everyone there. I loved how they paired her with people she would like. She made friends. Moving into a community like this is tough because it's hard to make friends and it's hard when you're not in your own home. The communication with the family is great. They call right away if something happens. They have field trips to restaurants, ice cream, shopping, and more. There are lots of activities like bingo, movie nights, and cards. The staff encourages everyone to join in. My mom complains about the food, but they have fresh fruits and salads every day. The meals aren't gourmet, but you won't go hungry!

"Surprisingly Organized Assisted Living Facility"
I really like this place. When we were searching for somewhere to go, they were still fixing up the building. At first, I wasn't sure if it would be okay because my husband has dementia. But I was pleasantly surprised by how well everything was organized. I thought it might be really confusing for the patients, but it wasn't. The staff is so nice to the patients, and that made a big impression on me.

"Poor Care at Senior Commons at Powder Mill"
My family members stayed at the Senior Commons at Powder Mill for just over two months. In that time, I repeatedly complained about the lack of clean linens and showers. They insisted they had provided showers, but when I would visit, my loved ones were still wearing clothes that had been on for more than three days! One time, my family member remained in nightclothes for an entire week. Even after expressing my dissatisfaction to the person in charge, there was no change. They actually asked what I planned to do! That's why I decided to remove my family from the Senior Commons at Powder Mill. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.

"Great care and concern after mother's passing highly satisfied"
My parents have been at this place since November 2022. We've been happy with their care, but our satisfaction went up a lot after my mom passed away in March. The way they’ve taken care of my dad and shown concern for our family has been even better than we hoped for

"Mixed feelings about assisted living tour, small rooms and limited seating"
We checked out the personal care area. The halls are super long and have few places to sit and chill. They divide the community into 4 "neighborhoods". The room we saw was okay in size but the bathroom was tiny and couldn't fit my mom's walker. The shower was a tight space too. The person giving our tour had only been there for 3 months, talked really fast, and didn't involve my mom much in the talk. They didn't show us a lot of the place. They didn't have any spots available, so I guess it's probably a nice place, but we didn't get the full experience this time.

"Review of Senior Commons"
Senior Commons offers a variety of activities to keep community members active. They genuinely care about members' health and well-being. My mother receives excellent nursing care, and they are attentive to her needs. The atmosphere is pleasant, although the food could be better.

"Beautiful and Friendly!"
I visited the Senior Commons at Powder Mill, and it was great. The place was clean, and the staff was friendly. The facility looked beautiful. The only downside was the area for Dementia patients, but overall, it was a nice place, even though choosing was tough.

"Highly Recommend This Community for Excellent Care and Atmosphere"
My mom's really liking it here. It's super nice, and I'm happy she moved here. Everything's kept really clean, and the staff are great. They take good care of her. Lots of fun stuff for residents to do, and the meals are healthy. I feel confident she's safe and well looked after. I'd definitely suggest this place.

"Discouraged by Poor Medical Care and Lack of Evening Activities"
Well, my mom's headed to the hospital for the third time because they messed up her meds again. Instead of having real nurses, this place uses med techs. I've found out that other local homes have actual nurse supervisors during each shift. Once mom's better, we're looking to move her somewhere else. Activities here seem to be only during the day, and there's not much for people with dementia. My advice? If your loved one can take care of themselves, then sure, move them in. But if they need help with their meds and daily care, you should look elsewhere.

"Clean, welcoming, but limited parking"
Clean and inviting. This winter, the fireplace is always a warm welcome when you arrive. The activities and services are a good match for my mother-in-law. The food seems good (as if you can ever satisfy everyone on this count!). The only complaint so far is the limited parking. I have had two times where I couldn't visit because there was no place to park at or near the facility.

"LACKING SKILLED CARE FOR DEMENTIA PATIENTS"
I discourage choosing this place for individuals with dementia. The staff on the dementia unit appears to lack proper training. It's disappointing that there are not any genuine nurses, only aides, who are entirely responsible for the floor.

"Nice place overall, room for improvement"
Our experience at Senior Commons at Powder Mill has been positive overall! Everyone is friendly and helpful. One area for improvement is coordinating and communicating about medications. The process to get over-the-counter medications approved is time-consuming, involving multiple rounds of back-and-forth between the community and doctors.

"Comfortable Size, Homey Feel, Room for Improvement in Communication"
I think the size of the facility is good because it gives the residents a homelike feel without being too big and overwhelming. At first, the communication could have been better about who would handle medical stuff and order medications. They have good activities, but some aren't great for people with vision problems, which a lot of elderly people have. The food looks good and seems healthy. Unlike other places we looked at, they let residents bring in snacks they like.

"Limited medical care. Monthly fees. Patients transition to nursing homes."
There's no nurse around. You pay every month and can leave. They don't give much medical help, just help with pills. Usually, folks move on to nursing homes from here.
