"Better Than Average Assisted Living, But Home Care Preferred"
Overall Experience: This place is probably better than most assisted living facilities. It's only 10 minutes from my house, so I could visit every day. But my mom kept asking to go back home. After 7 weeks, I moved her back with a full-time caregiver. Cleanliness: The place was very clean. Friendliness: The staff and other residents were friendly, with some being really nice. Quality of Care: The care was pretty good, but it wasn't a great fit for my mom. She needs more attention and eats small meals throughout the day. Food: My mom eats several times a day and likes different things, so she often didn't eat what was served and lost weight. I tried some meals and thought they were okay, maybe a C+ or B-. Activities: They had some interesting activities, but my mom didn't join in because she wanted to be at home. Value for Money: The cost was about double what I now pay for live-in care. If my mom had stayed, she would have run out of money in less than a year. Summary: Keeping my mom at home is cheaper and better for her health. But if her memory gets worse, we might need to reconsider assisted living.

"Attentive Staff and Friendly Environment, Mixed Reviews on Meals"
The staff at this assisted living facility are very friendly and greet my father by name. They were especially attentive after he fell. The concierge also greets our family when we enter, which is nice. Overall, our experience has been positive, but the meals could be better. The main dishes are often not hot enough and lack flavor; they seem like frozen proteins. However, the homemade soups are usually good, and sandwiches and salads are satisfactory. It would be nice to see more variety in the vegetables beyond carrots and broccoli. On the bright side, the desserts are excellent! My dad prefers to avoid the main dishes altogether. When I've eaten there, I usually opt for a sandwich.

The place doesn't have enough staff, but we're mostly satisfied. They need to talk with families more and keep better records. My family member's apartment is big and pretty.

"Mixed experience at Sunrise Community: Improvements needed for cleanliness and engagement"
Our experience at Sunrise Community during the first seven months wasn't great. Initially, we were disappointed. Some staff members seemed grumpy, never smiling. We hoped they'd engage more with residents, but often found them on their phones when we visited. After we complained, they removed chairs from the office to discourage phone use. There were many staff turnovers, but the new management has improved things, showing they care. However, we wish services were better. They only vacuumed once a week, and the dining room always had spilled food. The walls were often dirty. Activities were more for mobile residents, not those needing assistance. Still, our loved one has two amazing caregivers. They're wonderful, and we're grateful for them.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"
My sister and I went to check out this place. It looked okay, not amazing, but not bad either. The people who worked there were nice, and everything seemed clean. We weren't super impressed though. We want to see what else is out there.

"Sunrise Falls Short: Inadequate Staffing, Long Waits, Poor Conditions"
Sunrise really falls short because they don't have enough employees to take care of the residents. You have to wait a while to get help with personal needs. At times, it takes up to 30 minutes to be helped to use the bathroom. A lot of the caretakers there have a bad attitude and aren't nice to the residents' families. Also, the food could be a lot better. Plus, the carpets are pretty dirty, and I noticed mold in the resident bathroom's shower. That being said, I can't suggest anyone moves a loved one here.

"Unreliable Care at Assisted Facility, Further Inspection Advised"
We stayed here briefly. It seemed like the staff wasn't around when we needed help. The place could do better by being there more for the people living there. We can't exactly suggest this place to others. Families may want to check out for their relatives' care.

"Top-Notch Assisted Living Experience"
Sunrise Senior Living at Paoli is awesome! The common areas look great and meals can be eaten in the dining room or delivered to resident apartments for free. They've got amazing infrastructure too, like transportation to the grocery store and outings, nursing staff on-site for 16 hours a day, and medical assistance at night. They even have a great staff-to-resident ratio and flexible laundry services at no extra cost. The rooms are spacious, with beautiful views, and the staff is super friendly and dedicated. Plus, they charge per day, which is convenient. Overall, it's an excellent choice for seniors!

The program is doing well with my wife. The activities keep her active, and the staff is really nice and friendly to both of us. The only issue we have is getting her to go to the program.

"Review: Paoli's Sunrise Senior Living Needs More Specialized Care"
The place was neat and appeared to be quite new. A lady was very kind and showed us around beautifully. Yet, they need to improve in one area - providing the intense assistance and recovery aid that my mom needs.

"Worth Considering!"
“This place was really nice. It looked clean, and the staff was super friendly. They paid attention to us and were caring. But, you know, assisted living just didn’t feel right for our family. It wasn’t a good match. Still, I’d say you should check them out.

"Amazing care, compassionate staff, and peaceful final months at Paoli"
I didn’t know much about elder care, but we couldn’t care for my mom safely at home anymore. I explored several options, including full/part-time home care, assisted living, and maybe nursing care down the road. When I learned that "A Place for Mom" only referred providers that paid them, I was a bit skeptical. After visiting both recommended and non-recommended facilities, I noticed that APFM leaned towards Sunrise Senior Living. I wasn’t sure at first, but after visiting one of their locations, I was impressed. I observed caregivers with the residents and saw that they were warm, kind, and very dedicated. The facility was clean, safe, and welcoming, which made a difference. We ended up choosing Sunrise Paoli out of convenience. Although Mom wished she could have stayed home, she understood the need for 24-hour care. She lived there for about 8 months until she passed, and her care needs increased during that time. The staff quickly adapted to her needs, communicated well with me, and helped with hospice care in the end. When she passed, I felt peace knowing we made the right choice with Sunrise Paoli.

"Sunrise Assisted Living Facility Falls Short of Expectations"
Sunrise really let us down. Even though it's a new, modern place, the Memory Care section was messy and hard to navigate. The general layout just wasn't good and did not feel welcoming. It seemed like the staff was just wandering around without any sense of organization. The design of the rooms didn't make sense to us. Every room in the Memory Care had a small kitchen. We questioned the need and safety of such a feature in a Memory Care setting. Janine, the person who gave us the tour, seemed like she was trying too hard to seem like she knew all of the residents. It didn't sit right with us and rather than making us feel comfortable, we found her to be unauthentic and it made us uneasy. The place didn't feel like home or a relaxing get away, it felt more like a grown-up day care center. To add to our frustration, there were no available rooms in Memory Care. Instead of simply asking us if we wanted to be on a waiting list, they suggested moving our mom to their other location in Exton if they had a room. And then, if a room became available in Paoli, we could have her moved there for free. The thought of that horrified us. Dealing with change is tough enough for someone with dementia, let alone planning on moving them again potentially in a month. Looking back, we felt like we were just dealing with a big corporation that didn't really care about the personal touch.

"Finally, a perfect fit!"
My father-in-law has several types of dementia that make him act out sometimes. Many places wouldn’t take him, and he had two hospital stays and two different care facilities before we found Sunrise through A Place for Mom. Joanna Dunbar from A Place for Mom was amazing—knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and reliable. The staff at Sunrise Paoli is the best, and we have seen many. My father-in-law is in their secure Reminiscence area, and everyone—from the Reminiscence Coordinator to the Director of Sales to the Personal Care Coordinator to the aides—has handled his tough situation with care, understanding, and real compassion. We couldn’t be happier!

"Loved the two-room suite but found parking an issue."
Potential resident loved the two-room suite, but one room felt too small. They went back and spent a few hours there. The only downside was the poor parking. It's also about 20 minutes away.

"Great visit, clean place, offers temporary stays."
We had a great visit! This place is clean and nice. We would love to live there. They allow cats and have a skilled care center where he could stay at night and be with Mom during the day. They don’t seem to accept Medicare, so I will look into other Medicare homes for the short term. Sunrise offers a temporary 30-day visit to see if the place is a good fit.

"Enjoys Sunrise Tour; Misses Onsite Skilled Facility and Independent Living"
I enjoyed touring this Sunrise facility. The lady who guided us was from Pittsburgh; it appeared they lack a consistent director. The idea of having a Care Manager, who maintains consistent care, was appealing and it's nice that they can be swapped out if need be. Really loved the unique apartment, but its design might affect the pricing. I was disappointed to see there was no onsite skilled facility, but their renovated Memory care area and courtyard were very appealing. It's great that the residents with dementia are given jobs to carry out, like cooking meals. They provide baby dolls for women with dementia who recall their time of raising children, which I find very thoughtful. The whole place was quite clean and the staff seemed welcoming. Didn’t have a chance to eat their food. Unfortunately, they don't offer independent living either.
