"Horror Story: Broken Promises and Poor Conditions at Assisted Living"

Don't put your family here. It's something like a horror show. The ads talk about bright, happy rooms. That's a big, fat lie. The rooms are dim and dull. The safety buttons they brag about are useless. Many are broken. But the worst part is how disgusting the shower room is. Gross, dirty clothes are often left on the floor. I've had to go argue with them several times. There's been blood and poop in the rooms that wasn't cleaned right away. They've also dressed my family member in clothes meant for other people. My loved one was squeezed into clothing that didn't fit at all. I've seen them looking like they didn't even have a home. The food is more like something you'd find on TV, not a meal you'd actually want to eat. There's never anyone around to help you at the front desk. And if you try to call in, nobody picks up the phone. Promises to call back go unfulfilled. To top it all off, they've sent my loved one to the hospital many times for no real reason. The hospital staff is fed up and says they deal with this kind of thing all the time. I could keep going, but I think that's enough. Bottom line – don't fall for their lies!

"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living Experience"

Most of the people who work there are really nice and ready to help. But when something is broken, it takes a long time to get fixed. Overall, it's a nice place. I would suggest it only if your loved one can manage on their own. My dad needs more care, and it's tough. I spend many nights there.

"Decent assisted living, but affordability and service declined over time."

The place was clean and the staff was friendly. Sometimes, I had to check if my mom got her meds right. The meals were okay, nothing special. Some residents wanted more soup, but they didn't make it. After Covid, they stopped activities and only brought back Bingo and a few games. At first, it was worth the cost. Mom had a nice room and liked it there. But after a year, they raised prices. We couldn't afford it anymore and had to move her somewhere cheaper. The owner said he'd help, but only as we were leaving. We wished we could've kept her there. Overall, it was a decent place for the money.

"Assisted Living Disappointment"

My wife wasn't ready for The Palms at O'Neil. She needed more help, but the staff seemed untrained and uninterested.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Facility Experience"

Some staff were helpful, others didn't care. Meds stopped abruptly. Food terrible. Few activities.

"Assisted Living Home Review: Mixed Experience, Advise Clarification"

This care home is good for personal needs. When someone needs more attention, it's time for a nursing home. My only issue: Last September, Mom needed more help. I told the staff and planned to move her out in a month. They said they could meet her new needs without raising the cost. But later, they suggested bringing in a hospice group. After an incident, they said she had to stay with hospice to live there. They didn't explain this earlier. I'm not blaming anyone, but things moved fast. I should've asked for written details. Advice: Always get things in writing or record conversations to remember the details. Don't rush decisions about loved ones' care.

"Friendly Staff and Clean Environment, But Food Needs Improvement"

The place is nice, workers are super friendly, but the food isn’t great. Not as many activities as I thought, but it’s very clean. Aides are always checking on the residents.

"Mixed Friendliness Ratings at Assisted Living Facility"

As for how friendly the staff and administration are, I'd give the staff a 5 out of 5, but the administration only gets a 1.

"Great Assisted Living Community, But Too Far"

Our family visited this community in person, and we really liked it. It would have been a good place for our loved one, but the distance was just too far.

"Friendly and Helpful Staff, Some Room for Food Improvement"

The charge nurses, is really helpful and talks with our family a lot. The nursing assistant, is always nice to talk to, cheerful, and makes each resident feel special. Another nursing assistant, is the same way. [name removed] helps the residents go to the dining hall and outside if they are in wheelchairs or to other places, and he is just really nice and friendly. We have met some very nice communicative people working here. We gave it an overall 4 out of 5 rating because the food isn't that good - it's a lot of carbs and starches. However, they do have nice activities that they are starting to bring back, a nice gazebo outside, and our loved ones enjoy bingo.

"Great staff and care, but food needs improvement."

I thought they worked hard to keep the place nice. The staff were really helpful with our parent's needs. They made sure they had rides to and from doctor's appointments and were very cooperative with their needs. Almost everyone in the home needed special accommodations, and the staff were very good at handling their individual care needs. They were especially good about my mother's special medications and even when her prescriptions changed, they were on top of it. For activities, they had a bus for trips outside the community, but it was broken down a lot. We felt very comfortable having both parents here and were very happy with them. The only thing they could improve on is the food, which wasn't very good and not homemade. Overall, I would definitely recommend The Palms At O'Neil to others.

"Friendly Caregivers and New Friends at the Palms"

My mother-in-law has been here for 6 weeks, adjusting to her new surroundings. We’re pleased with the Palms—the friendly caregivers and her newfound friends.

"Subpar Care and Lack of Attention at Assisted Living Facility"

I used to work at this place and I can tell you, don't be tricked by how it looks. They never have enough employees. The staff eats better meals than the people who live there. The owners act badly and they're hardly ever present. It's always cold, regardless of if it's summer or winter. They say it's a personal care home but they use lift machines on residents who should really be in other kinds of places. They hardly ever change the beds. Look for a superior place for your loved ones.

"Avoid This Facility: Unsafe and Poorly Staffed"

I'm only offering this place one star because I've got no other choice. This place is a danger zone! They barely have any helpers for all the patients here; there's only one doctor (who's 72!) who comes around once a week unless he's got something else going on. There's only one nurse who comes in a few times a week for a few hours to care for all the residents. We admitted our family member here on a Tuesday and come Sunday, he was still wearing the same clothes from when he got here. Went to sleep and woke up in them every single day. He wasn't bathed or shaved for six whole days. When we complained, they said he wasn't on the schedule yet because he was still new. He'd been there for six days! If we didn't say anything, who knows when they'd have started bathing him (apparently, they only clean residents two times a week). They said they'd make sure he gets cleaned up that day. He did, but only because we were the ones to make sure of it. They claim they check up on the residents every two hours but when we were there, the few aides that were actually present were looking after 25 or more residents. They make the residents sit in the dining room at least 15 minutes before food time. We had to wait with over 40 residents for a whole hour before they served food. An hour! Our family member was still sitting in the lobby where he was left after breakfast until it was time for lunch - several hours. This is totally wrong and unsafe. I'm positive they're breaking all kinds of rules about staff to resident ratios and care quality. If there was ever a fire or something, they wouldn't have enough staff to get everyone out safely. Even if they're way understaffed, we didn't see the boss lady doing anything to help her staff or the residents while we were there.

"Variety of Activities and Caring Staff"

This place is really nice. They have cool stuff to do like exercise classes and crafts. The people who work here are super nice and take good care of the folks living here. The rooms are always clean, and the food is tasty.

"Raves About the Wonderful Place!"

The Palm at O'Neil is going great. She really enjoys it there. The staff does an excellent job, and she raves about how wonderful it is. They keep residents busy with crafts, excursions, and exercise classes. People even bring their dogs, which the residents love. She's adjusting well to this bright and colorful place. The staff is always cheery. The value would improve with VA assistance. Overall, I'm very pleased.

"Excellent Staff, But Food Falls Short"

The building may be old, but it's spotless. The cleaning crew does an excellent job. The administrative team, managers, and nurses are all fantastic. They're really caring, always ready to help, and they follow through on their promises. The biggest downside is the food. It's just not good. I can't see how it's supposed to be healthy or nutritious. It's really not up to standard. Because of the food alone, they should get one star, but the staff and administration make it better. If your family member enjoys tasty, healthy meals, you might want to think twice about this place.

"Steer Clear—No Quality Care At This Assisted Living!"

My dad had to move to this place after suffering a stroke since we couldn't afford to keep him at home. They placed him on the third floor, which was absolutely the wrong call. We were told there'd be staff ready to assist him at all times, but whenever he needed help, his floor was deserted. He was even forced to go to the elevator by himself just to get meals. To add to my worries, even though my dad wasn't experiencing incontinence, the male staff member on the night shift would put a diaper on him and tell him to just use it. This was clearly so he wouldn't have to assist my dad during the night. They also provided my dad with a portable potty chair. Imagine my horror when I visited his room and found it filled with feces and urine from at least a day ago. The stench was so vile it stung your eyes! I was assured that they checked on my dad every two hours. After seeing the state of the potty chair, I had to go around looking for help. The two young staff members I found were shocked at the sight of the excrement-filled potty chair. In fact, one of them even rushed out, saying she was about to throw up. When I asked them to clean it, they admitted they didn't know how. Eventually, another staff member was called in who cleaned it right there in his BATHROOM SINK. There were no cleaning supplies used - no bleach or Lysol. To top it all, my dad's room had ants, and we were told that nothing could be done about it as they didn't have any bug spray. After just five days in that place, we couldn't bear it any longer and got my dad out of there. You can't expect quality care in this place, despite their show of being top-notch. The owner insists he's always reachable, but whenever I tried calling his cell, I'd be directed to his voicemail which, by the way, was always FULL. This place is a nightmare.

"Unhygienic Practices and Inconsistent Professional Care at Assisted Facility"

The personal attendants fail to maintain basic hygiene standards - they don't change their gloves even after attending to multiple patients. I've observed an attendant and a med tech handling five different patients without swapping their gloves. They're also careless in using equipment. When lifting patients with the hoyer lift, they often leave the slide in place. This negligence can lead residents to develop painful bed sores or ulcers. Furthermore, you cannot count on a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse to be available round-the-clock. Moreover, there are several questionable employees working there. It's not a place I'd recommend.

"A Decent Community with Room for Improvement"

The people who live there have to use one or two small elevators for everything, which means they end up waiting a lot. I tried the food, and I thought it was pretty good, but my friend doesn’t like it. There aren’t many choices, and the variety isn’t great. On the bright side, the staff is really friendly, the place smells clean, and it’s in a nice location. Overall, it’s a decent community, but there’s still some room for improvement.

"Great Family-Owned, Cozy Size, but Needs Better Maintenance"

The maintenance can be a problem. I've asked for some things to be fixed since we moved in, and they still haven't been done. I like that it's family-owned and not too big. It's a good deal for what you get for your money.

"Pleasant Community with Room for Improvement"

This place looks nice and tidy. The owner decorates well, especially during holidays. The staff are super friendly and keep families in the loop. The owner even shares his personal cell number and is quick to help with any problems. They're also cool with sorting out billing stuff while we wait on VA funds. But, I think they could do better in a couple of areas. The activities are a bit repetitive and don't feel like they're made for the residents. Also, it would be nice to have more staff around on weekends.

"Great care and value for money at PALMS!"

The staff here is really friendly, helpful, and knows their stuff. Prices are fair for semi-private living assistance. I checked out other places that cost 50% more than PALMS but had similar care quality. This place is very clean and offers many activities for all residents. Security is top-notch, and there are lots of amenities inside.

"Dim and Dated Assisted Living Needs Brightening and Renovation"

I visited The Palms at O'Neil, and it wasn't great. It felt gloomy and could use some improvements. My stepmom, who has Alzheimer's, prefers well-lit places, and this wasn't bright enough for her liking.
