"Expensive Alzheimer's Facility Underdelivers and Breaks Promises"
This home isn't good for those with mobile Alzheimer's patients, despite my $[removed] per month payment. I had caregivers there from 9 AM to 9 PM, yet I'd still get calls at all hours if he got up from bed. They solely served finger food due to his eating barriers, though I and other caregivers were present for all meals. The cooking staff was great, and we coordinated together, but he'd often just have his wet diaper replaced. The quality was dismal considering how much I was spending, and this was with me there half the day along with other hired help. That's all I have to say about this disappointing situation. They don't fulfill their promises.

"Dad's Happy Home with Pool, Friends, and Beautiful Sunsets"
My dad really enjoys living here. He loves the heated swimming pool and morning water aerobics five days a week. The food makes him happy, and he likes meeting new people at meals. He's made friends with some widowers who are still sharp, and they have interesting conversations. At other places, it was harder for him to find male friends. The location has beautiful sunsets. There are a lot of people in the independent living units, so he can find people he likes. The staff is very helpful and lets him do things he enjoys, like joining the local church choir and riding his bike around the campus. He has settled in really well and seems genuinely interested in living there.

"Clean, friendly, inconvenient Medicaid policy, confusing layout"
This community was nice and clean, with friendly people nearby. It's close to me but farther from my other loved one. We needed a place halfway between us. Not taking Medicaid was a drawback since it would mean transferring our loved one. The building layout seemed confusing for residents.

"Limited activities and closed pool, room for improvement."
If you have to go, it's okay. No activities, closed pool. Improvement needed.

"Mixed Experience with Care and Communication"
Our family member stays in the nursing unit, so I can't talk about other care levels. Be ready to shell out lots of money. We pay a big monthly housing fee, but then got hefty bills for extra care. They said our loved one might wander off and insisted we pay their outside worker hourly to watch him. But that person wasn't around during our visits. We can only visit in a supervised area, so I can't tell if they're taking good care of him and stuff. He looks neat, but they forget to put on his hearing aids and glasses. That doesn't make for a good visit. When I mentioned it, they just handed us his hearing aids and glasses in a box and didn't help him put them on. When you ask questions, you don't get many answers. They haven't helped us with veterans benefits and stuff, which makes me feel like once they have you there, they just give you the bill and that's all.

"Avoid This Facility: Claims of Quality Care Are Overrated"
I absolutely wouldn't suggest this facility for assisted living or professional nursing. The Health Care Center should be closed due to violations like keeping and losing patients' meds. Recently, they only had 2 aides and 1 nurse on staff to take care of 22 patients. It’s not enough people to bathe, dress, feed, and assist 22 people every day! While they preach about their amazing independent living, they lack enough staff to properly care for those who need assistance. I'd only consider this place if I could take care of myself and didn't need their help. They’re only attentive when family is around, it's all an act most of the time. Compassion seems to be missing in many staff members. The higher-ups on site seem clueless about what's actually happening. Their response to problems is always the same - "I will look into it." And don't be fooled by their marketing team promises about smooth transitions to more care, it couldn't be more wrong. Even minor things lead to hospital visits. Falls happen constantly. Cut this place from your list, there are many better ones out there. I'd give zero stars if I could.

"Avoid This Assisted Living! Poorly Staffed, Uncaring, Mismanaged"
This assisted living facility isn't something I'd suggest to anyone, ever, whether they need a little help getting through the day or they need skilled nursing care. The health center here can't seem to keep track of things - like their patients' medications, which is a terrible oversight. At one point, they had just a pair of helpers and a single nurse trying to take care of 22 folks in their skilled nursing section. Every day, that's only two helpers for bathing, dressing, going to the bathroom, and eating for all 22 patients. There's just no way they can provide good care under those circumstances. They often don't have enough staff and it feels like they're more interested in folks who can take care of themselves. Visiting this place would only make sense if you're completely independent and can still drive. Once you can't take care of yourself though, they don't give you much help -- unless you happen to have family visiting. Then, they put on a big show of caring. I've noticed that a lot of the staff sadly lack empathy. The facility's top local bosses never seem to know what’s happening. Their favorite saying is, "I'll look into it." And the folks in charge of attracting new residents will swear that switching to getting more care here will be smooth and simple - that couldn't be less true. Even the smallest issues will find you packed off to the hospital. Residents falling is a regular occurrence. I could complain for days. There are so many better places to check out. Do yourself a favor and just skip this one. I'd give it no stars if only that were an option.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
This review is about my father-in-law’s short stay on a long-term care floor. The staff is friendly and helpful, but there aren’t enough workers for the patients’ needs. The food is good, but they often ignore requests for extra portions or specific items. Also, there aren’t sufficient staff to take clients off the unit for the advertised activities.

"Short stay on a long-term care unit"
This review is about the short stay my father-in-law had on a long-term care floor. The staff is friendly and helpful, but there aren’t enough of them to meet the higher needs of the patients. The food is good, but specific requests often go unnoticed. Unfortunately, there aren’t sufficient staff members available to take clients off the unit for the advertised ‘many activities.

"Great place, but pricey. Helpful staff, active residents."
This place was awesome to me. I really liked it here. The people who work here were nice and they helped me. I saw some of the people who live here going out and doing stuff. I just felt like it cost a lot and didn't give as much as I wanted.

"Great staff and activities!"
The staff have all been very nice to my loved one. The housekeeping team does a great job keeping his room and bathroom clean and taking out the trash. The team also provides great meals and activities for my dad, and he is very happy with his experience.

Our loved one has been doing really well since moving to Brookdale Sakonnet Bay. The place is super clean and nicely kept. The staff are friendly and have taken great care of our loved one. They could improve a bit in communicating with the family about our loved one’s needs and appointments. Dad enjoys the meal choices, and there are lots of fun activities for residents.

"Good move"
Brookdale Sakonnet Bay is open and airy. We checked out two other places before moving here. My mom has been living in Independent Living for about 2 months, after living on her own for 6 years following my dad’s death. Her one-room apartment is spacious, fitting bedroom and living room furniture, and a dining table. There are two good-sized closets, a kitchen area with a sink, small counter, and small fridge, and a good-sized bathroom. We were lucky to get an apartment with a small terrace facing west, overlooking the bay and river. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and caring. They notice what activities you do or don’t do. The dining room is large with roomy round tables, and the food is generally well-prepared and tasty. I’ve had lunch and dinner there with my mom. If she didn’t like what she ordered, they quickly and cheerfully replaced it. Once, we ate out but forgot to notify them. They checked on her to make sure she hadn’t forgotten to go to dinner. Brookdale offers many daily activities: music concerts, movement and stretching exercises, brain exercises, swimming, scheduled games (like Scrabble, cribbage, checkers, bingo, Pokeno, etc.), a small movie theater with weekly showings, outings to restaurants, shopping, nearby attractions, current event discussions, a crafts room, a billiards room, chapel services, public computers, and a pub with ice cream socials and “mix-and-mingles”. Overall, it’s been a great experience, and my mom seems much happier socializing with others instead of living alone.

"Feels like family, great care by the water"
Brookdale Sakonnet is a wonderful community! I'm really happy with them. They always call me to let me know what's going on with my mom. They take great care of her and do a fantastic job. It feels like family there. The apartment is great and right by the water. I’d even sign up myself! Everyone has been nice, and I haven’t met anyone I didn’t like. The only downside is they don’t accept all insurances.

"Welcoming Assisted Living Staff Creates Home-Like Atmosphere"
The people who work here, from the folks who manage everything to the nurses, cleaners, and the ones at the front desk, are all really nice. They treat us with kindness and respect, and they take good care of my mom. It feels like a second home for her and for us. Moving her in wasn't as hard as we thought it would be because of how helpful everyone was.

"Sakonnet Bay: Not Equipped for Dementia and Skilled Care Units"
Sakonnet Bay really shouldn't be running a unit for people with dementia and a skilled care unit. They aren't ready to provide the kind of care these units need. The nurses don't have the right qualifications, and there are far too many patients for each nurse, especially when it comes to patients with dementia or sick patients. They usually don't have enough staff. The caregivers don't have enough training to take care of patients who need much more than what this center can handle - some just finished a few weeks of class and don't have any experience. Because Sakonnet Bay is a "ASSISTED LIVING" center where people pay themselves, they don't have to stick to the same rules as long-term care centers. They claim to give HOSPICE CARE... but they don't really know what they're doing. Ask yourself, what part of end of life care is "ASSISTED"? I can't talk about the actual "assisted living" part at Sakonnet Bay, but I will say, many of the nurses in the dementia unit are kind, caring people - this center just isn't ready to provide this kind of care. Think hard before putting your loved one in one of their skilled units. **This survey should really focus on rating care and not just friendliness...

"Safe and caring place for Dad!"
My dad had a very clean and comfortable room. The staff was nice, helpful, and accommodating. He really enjoyed his stay here. My family was able to go on vacation while I took care of my three teenagers and my elderly father. I felt good knowing he was in a safe and caring place. His personal care attendant was wonderful. She spent time with him and knew what he liked and needed.

"Finding Comfort at Sakonnet Bay Assisted Living: A Family's Journey"
In , my family toured two assisted living facilities. After visiting seven, we chose Sakonnet Bay, which had both a memory unit and skilled nursing on site. Mom, struggling with independence, was diagnosed with dementia in. She moved to Sakonnet Bay in September, starting in skilled nursing for respite care. The head nurse, she, was amazing! Mom enjoyed the staff and clients. In October, she transitioned to the memory care unit, where Tiffany was wonderful! Despite occasional short-staffing, Mom thrived in activities. With doctor and nurse evaluation, she moved to assisted living in December. Though short-staffing persists, Mom, my brother, and I are pleased with Sakonnet Bay's beautiful setting and pleasant atmosphere.

"Memory Care Assurance Lacked, but Overall Satisfactory Experience"
My mom joined in some activities, but not enough. We stayed in the nursing area, which wasn't exactly what she needed, but it was pretty good. There was a problem with the office. We felt a bit tricked into signing up because they promised us a spot in the memory care within a week, but it was clear after a couple of weeks that it wouldn't be available for a while. They did give us our money back, though.
