"Convenient and Affordable Assisted Living with Caring Staff"
We picked Brookdale West Ashley because it was affordable for what we needed. The smaller size was great because everything like the dining area, physical therapy, and library were close by. It was easy to get to everything. The staff was really helpful and paid attention to us. The only downside was my Dad's attitude he just didn't want to be there.

"Great Choice Post-Surgery"
Everyone who works here, from the managers to the staff, has always been really helpful. We chose this place because my wife had heart surgery recently, and it's close to the hospital.

"Nice Facility but Over Budget"
We visited Brookdale West Ashley while looking for an assisted living place for our loved one. It was really nice! Everything was clean and the atmosphere felt good. People were friendly too. But it was too expensive for us. So, we kept looking for something else.

"The transition was good, except for one problem."
The only issue I have is confusion between using the in-house 'SC House Calls Group' and sticking with our primary care doctor. We signed lots of papers, including one for SC House Calls to see my mom if her doctor couldn't be reached. Unfortunately, they misunderstood our wishes and took over her care without talking to us. After I contacted them, they fixed the problem. My advice: Be clear about your family member's care preferences and share that info with all providers.

""Dishonest assisted living facilities; recommend pricey skilled nursing instead.""
Assisted living really disappointed me. They've proven to be dishonest and I simply can't trust them. I wouldn't suggest opting for assisted living unless you're prepared to personally visit every day or at least every other day. If you can afford it, skilled nursing such as the one offered by is a much better choice, though it's unfortunately out of reach for many folks.

"Brookdale Facility: Talks a Big Game, Delivers Nothing"
Don't tell anyone to go to this place, please. Brookdale was just awful. We chose this place because they made everything seem so amazing when we toured it. A large bedroom, not too far from the place where all the activities happen. It looked smaller, kind of like home. But boy, do the folks who work there honestly not care about the residents.

"Great Staff, Some Room for Improvement"
The only problem is with the bathrooms and occasional cleaning. When I moved in, it was okay, similar to a moderately priced hotel, but not quite what I expected. However, the staff is absolutely outstanding. My only suggestion is for them to encourage residents more to participate in activities. I truly believe they couldn't have a better staff. My mom has never spoken so highly of people before. They are caring and always ready to help. They have been wonderful to us, usually noticing when we have a question. Overall, I don't see any other areas needing improvement.

"Staff Friendly, Promises Not Kept"
I liked the staff—they were really friendly. But they didn’t do everything they promised. When my mom passed away, they wanted to move her to a nursing home, so I started searching for other options.

"Expensive Facility Lacks Services and Compassion, Blame on Poor Administration"
This assisted living facility seemed neat in the front lobby, but my relative's room and sheets were not really clean. It cost a lot, and still, they didn't provide enough services. When I had to clear out his things, they refused to help. It was the last days of his life, and instead of focusing on him, I had to worry about cleaning everything out. They were understaffed and always seemed to be rushed. It was a bad experience, and I think the management is to blame. I would avoid this facility until they fix their management issues. When my relative passed away, they didn't bother to express their sympathies or send a card, which really hurt me.

"Smooth Transition and Excellent Communication"
It’s been a really nice experience transitioning from independent living to assisted living. The healthcare and physical therapy team is great, and they provide transportation to doctors’ visits. Communication via text or phone has been excellent—they take time to help you understand and address any questions, including billing.

This community was really nice, and the staff were great. The building was a bit older.
